Perhaps all should consider "Dearly Beloved."

Regarding when R-IT will stop is "indeterminate" at present, neither I nor HD know for certain when the trial might be stopped. Ken Fisher in his great book on the stock market makes the point that when analysts try to call the market, the only thing certain is that most of the time the market will behave different than their projections.

HD keeps repeating that he does not know of a study that was stopped for efficacy before the planned interval date..and no body has come forth with an exception...Well I don't know how many goals PELE scored in the 1970 World cup that Santos (Brazil) won. That does not mean he went scoreless. The interval date from any clinical trial is not something most of the population carries around in their heads. It is also information that requires considerable research efforts, to a) find studies stopped for efficacy and b) determine the interval date..

The important point is an outcome study can be stopped for exceptional benefit, and there is no rule stating this can only occur after the prescribed interval date...Also the statement that the trial can not be stopped for efficacy after a quarterly review is incorrect .
