Hi Allen, Re: Value Line "Small and Mid-Cap Extended Edition".........................

The general format is similar, but unfortunately not the same. Some things remain consistent such as the calculation for BETA and the general business statistics. Some good stock screens are in the "Summary of Advices and Index" section that are comparable to the regular edition. I noted that there was only ONE stock listed on page 31 in the "Conservative Stocks Ranked #1 for Relative Safety" where there is room for up to 50 companies. So, I guess they don't think there is much in the way of bargains in the Small and Mid-Cap world right now.

The format of the company pages is enough different that one can't use the same format for filtering that I'd developed for AIM growth stocks way back when. But, there is good info there. A friend of mine uses the Highest Yielding Non-Utility Stocks list for picking up new dividend stock ideas for his portfolio. One thing he's said is that just because some of these companies are smaller in capitalization doesn't mean they're "growth" stocks. His impression is that many are just solid smaller businesses. His comment is that they sometimes put out a higher yield than their more famous sector brothers. He says this is their way of differentiating themselves from the larger cap companies in the same industries.
