To that I say maybe eventually but not unless Amarin takes aggressive action to bolster sales in the immediate future. If I was tasked with increasing sales of this product and had the necessary resources, here's how I would proceed.
I'd create an eye-catching, high impact pamphlet....the kind I receive monthly from the casinos in NJ and CT offering free rooms and match play. The headline would read "Triglycerides, Inflammation, HbA1c and the Omega3 EPA Connection". I'd add text beneath to the effect, "New Science Strongly Suggests Expanded Role of Omega 3 Pufa in Clinical Practice" and surround that with full color photos of healthy people.
Inside front cover and next page, talk about the extent and volume of clinical trials that have shown benefits of EPA relative to our headline. List several of the most impressive and convincing trials with objective and result abbreviated into bullet points. Then bring in current treatment and prescribing guidelines from the professional societies, identify Lipid Assoc, Heart, Vascular, NIH etc. and based on their very own publications, "The FDA"! Finish with a big plug for "highly purified EPA".
On the back page, "Vascepa is 96% pure EPA". It is indicated for treatment of Triglycerides over 499 etc, JUST the CURRENT indication. Qualify the prescribing information and description of Vascepa only to the extent of the approved indication. Anyone who reads the brochure can use their imagination beyond that!!
Then start mailing to a million doctors all over the US. Maybe that will put some awareness into their heads and get the story moving. Let our Reps distribute anywhere they can. I'm not an expert but I could hire some damn experts to do this right!!
If and when the FDA comes knocking, that's our 1st Amendment defense. The FDA has done everything possible to muzzle and destroy this company. That means they have also destroyed us, the investors. For a number of reasons, I've never had much use for this agency in its present form and I'm sure many others might share this attitude. Let then come at us, let them put us on the defensive because that will create a story. In this day and age of the rich getting richer and go f^^k the rest of you, that story will resonate with the public. Let the FDA come and it may be the impetus for their destruction.....it just might provide the forum where we can truly TELL THEM WHERE TO GO!
