Or a metric s**t ton of on-chip SRAM. The A7 had a 3 MB block just for
giggles and the A8 could add a lot of dense transistors by bumping up
the size of this SRAM.
Looking at the first die shot, it doesn't look like there's a massive amount of SRAM. And here is a comparison of A7 vs A8 die shots.
Note I am not an expert, so I could be entirely wrong
