Anybody can slap a high gain antenna on a router. The only reason a Wialan router has range is because of the antenna. It's not like a Wialan box has greater wattage of transmit power because that's regulated by the FCC. A better wireless architecture would use 8 routers to cover an area vs 1 router. 8 routers would provide a more uniform coverage area and it makes no sense to have a router transmitter that has more transmit range than the transmit range of the wireless devices connected to it. Because folks need to know, both the router transmits a signal and various connected devices transmit a signal. It's a two way street. So what good is a router with long range if the transmitter on a laptop or mobile device doesnt have the power to transmit back to the router? Thats great if you can receive a routers signal at long range but rather useless if your laptop's wifi transmitter can't do the same.
