Nationwide, the oil and gas exploration industry is a $290 billion market with around 5,000
companies. Production of petroleum and other liquids in the U.S. is projected to increase from 10.4
million barrels per day in 2011 to 13.1 million barrels per day in 2019, according to the U.S. Energy
Information Administration. As such, demand for new sources of domestic oil will continue unabated
for the foreseeable future.
