Even as a gimmick, to the right market, it can still sell extremely well. There is a reason they compared their shoes to spider silk. They want to capitalize on the hype that using spider silk would create.

I can easily see a new hipster trend being formed to have clothing made out of silk from "Monster Moths that have been injected with Spider DNA". If it is marketed just right, there could easily be overwhelming demand after just the first production run.
