why would he piss his money away?

He is in so deep that he has to do this if there is any hope for this company to survive. If he does not put in additional money his entire investment is toast... gone.

This is analogous to bond holders that have a large but losing position in a failing business when a business is out of cash... The only hope they have to recover their original investment is to provide a little additional cash in the hopes of a turnaround.

The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary
