No that is a media conflaguration. Arroyo wanted to stay in Boston and signed through his arbitration years gaining some job security. Unfortunately, it also set his price which actually makes it easier to trade him.

It is hard to know if he made the correct decision financially. His numbers dropped a bit last year and he was destined for Bostons bullpen, so he probably would of made LESS as a bullpen guy next year in arbitration.

If he was a starter for the three years and improved, he might of made a couple million more over the three years, but it certainly wasn't guaranteed.
