Mine works fine. I have the first 2.0 and the upgraded 2.0. It's either defective, or they are using the ceramic screen that came with it on the bottom and then putting the herb in. It's one or the other. If they are using the ceramic screen in any way shape or form, just have them pull that out and try it. If that doesn't work, the unit must be defective, unless there is something else going on, like they don't know how to turn it on. To check if defective, ask them if they can see the coil burning red/orange when they hold the button in for 5 seconds.
