hi dig,

that's the problem.

my reading of game theory suggests the benefit-maximising outcome is assured user and device security and a worldwide web. no one gets to surveil but at least everyone gets access to a coherent network and users and data are protected.

the selfish sovereign/ surveillance model is doomed to fracturing and inefficiency. there can be no universal network and users are insecure. we see this occurring in brazil, germany and china.

cooperation amongst all actors is valuable. selfish behaviour is destructive.

a secure network is also valuable. an insecure network is incapable of securing value in information. the only sustainable insecure digital business model sells eyeball time (aka advertising) and your so-called private information.

the worldwide web is doomed unless the philosophy changes. tc can only be an element of the cure if it is genuinely secure against broad international surveillance.

how secure are the keys against selfish sovereigns and their corporate agents (allegedly, such as ms)?

in the snowden universe, it appears, not very.
