Pegatron is picking up more iPhone orders..good for us.

The latest report coming out of Taiwan suggests that frequent Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) supplier Pegatron will make 15 percent of the upcoming iPhone 6 devices in addition to the continued manufacture of last year’s iPhone 5S and 5C, as reported by Taiwanese newspaper Commercial Times, per AppleInsider.

The report said that Pegatron will manufacture 50 million iPhones in 2014, up from 35 million in 2013. The increase in production likely comes from Apple getting ready to release a new device this fall.

Pegatron is moving some of that workload to a facility in Kunshan, the report said. AppleInsider pointed out that this matches claims from a report issued by The China Times in March, which said that the facility in Kunshan would serve to help Pegatron boost production, with the manufacture of the iPhone 6 beginning sometime in the second quarter. That report also claimed that Pegatron was training a huge number of new employees to work on building the smartphones.

Historically, the production of the latest iPhone would go solely to Apple’s biggest supplier, Foxconn. AppleInsider said that the push toward giving a higher volume of iPhone production to Pegatron is a move on Apple’s part to diversify its supply chain.

Pegatron’s latest earnings have shown that the company is growing through its partnership with Apple and has become an important supplier to the company. It has been estimated that Pegatron gets 40 percent of its revenue from Apple and that Apple uses eight different Pegatron facilities in the Chinese cities of Shanghai and Jiangsu to manufacture iOS devices.
Prevalent rumors about the iPhone 6 have suggested that the device will come in two different larger screen sizes, a 4.7 inch and a 5.5 inch. As people use their smartphones for more computing tasks, bigger screen sizes have gained popularity because they’re easier to look at for long periods of time. It’s rumored that the 5.5-inch device will come a bit later than the smaller phone due to production issues.

Various drawings and images claimed to be plans for the new iPhone have been making the rounds online, as per usual for new Apple products. Some other rumors about the device claim that it will be Apple’s thinnest iPhone yet and that the screen will be made using sapphire technology developed at the GT Advanced Technologies plant in Arizona that Apple purchased last year.

A sapphire screen will help Apple meet the goal of making the device thinner and lighter, and the material is nearly impossible to scratch. Another rumor has suggested that the device will contain a curved screen that bends down over the edge of the phone.

Some of these innovations see Apple responding directly to its number one enemy, Samsung (SSNLF.PK). Samsung has already released smartphones with bigger screen sizes, and the Galaxy Round has a curved screen.
