LAS VEGAS – In order to demonstrate the commercial readiness of 4K ultra HDTV (UHDTV), Intelsat, BT Group, Ericsson, Newtec and Sony will collaborate to showcase a live 4K UHDTV, end-to-end video transmission over satellite to Las Vegas at the 2014 NAB show.
The team will conduct a live transmission of sports programming that was produced using Sony’s 4K cameras, production switcher and recorder, and four 3G-SDI feeds will be encoded in real time using Ericsson’s encoders. The 4K signal is transmitted from London over the BT Global Media Network to Intelsat, which will then carry the signal to the Intelsat and Ericsson booths in Las Vegas, using Newtec modulation equipment.
The result is a 4:2:2, 10-bit, 4K UHDTV signal at 60fps as well as a down-converted HD feed.
Giles Wilson, head of TV compression at Ericsson, said: “Showcases such as these are a testament to the importance of compression technologies in delivering ‘true’ 4K UHDTV services to the home. As the living room moves towards a fully cinematic experience, ‘true’ 4K UHDTV video will enable a new premium tier of programming which will permanently change the way we watch content.”
The next 4K UHDTV production will be FIFA World Cup happening from June 12 to July 13.
From the NTEK PR:
http://online.wsj.com/article/PR-CO-20140404-910274.html One of the UHDTV demonstrations at Ericsson will be the managed services showcase of acquisition, encoding and seamless delivery of 4K OTT streaming content to consumers. This is a services proposition for broadcasters. This demonstration will include using NanoTech's award-winning Nuvola NP-1(TM) 4K Ultra HD streaming media player. The Nuvola NP-1 can also be seen in action at the Akamai, Elemental Technologies and Ittiam booths this year at NAB, clearly showcasing that the infrastructure and end-point devices are now ready to deliver a massive amount of 4K content to consumers' homes.
