As the GTE Russian deal closes in, the news of Feb. 17 about “Sir Christopher Meyer to Become Independent Director of GlobeTel Communications, Relinquishes Role as Chairman” takes on a new spin. Cloak and dagger and all those b…… English men.
Who is going to go to Moscow or St Petersburg or both, for the GTE/Internafta/Globetel-Europe great show blitz and media event?
Sir Christopher would have been a bad choice for the whole of the people of Russia. As a faithful servant of Her Majesty the Queen of England he would have been seen as another British agent adding Stratellites to the Wi-Fi spying saga. A saga that has been first heavy as a British rock next as light as an American feather floating up in the sky.

For those not familiar with the Feb. “rock” story check it out at:
http://en.rian.ru/russia/20060123/43134065.html and more at http://cryptome.org/

This was and still is a big hype in Moscow. “The Special Correspondent program on the state television channel featured interviews with people who claimed to be representatives of Russia's domestic security agency, the Federal Security Service (FSB). In echoes of the Cold War, they said that British agents had planted a transmitter in an imitation rock on a Moscow street to record classified computer data, which was later downloaded by British embassy officials. The allegations in the program were made based on a recording made by a FSB hidden camera.”

Much better to look for somebody like the ex German Chancellor, Gerard Schroeder whom back in December, the Russian President Vladimir Putin asked to head the advisory board of the Northern European Gas Pipeline (NEGP), a German-Russian enterprise. Sir Christofer and all things British is anathema to the Russians at the moment.
