Many scams have products, the more you make it seem like a real deal, the better the scam.

One of the reasons that I see e.Digital as a scam is that I believe the claims made about its core patented technology, MicroOS (called "Norris Flash File System" in the actual patent document), have been wildly exaggerated.

The patent was filed 7 1/2 years ago and was simply a different way to write to flash memory (which could be expanded to other types of non-volatile storage such as hard drives). It was filed back when flash memory was just emerging for widespread use. Since that time, numerous other patents have been approved and, more importantly, non-proprietary methods for reading and writing to flash memory have been established. If the non-proprietary methods infringed on e.Digital's patent, nothing was ever done about it.

Also, the "Norris Flash File System" (AKA "MicroOS") is not a true operating system (OS), but simply a memory management system for non-volatile storage medium (such as flash) that incorporates cache (volatile) memory in its methodology.

IMO, EDIG management has been extremely misleading in their past statements about the potential of MicroOS to become a "global standard" and in making it sound like it was an operating system instead of simple file management firmware. It's interesting that the SEC filings describe it as a file management system, but the web site describes it as an operating system.

Even though EDIG talks about MicroOS 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 and implies that changes have been made to the firmware that make it more powerful, there is no documentation whatsoever at the USPTO.

Since e.Digital management hyped the stock by making claims about the exclusive abilities of MicroOS and it's strong potential to be a global standard OS in music players and other handheld digital devices, it's important to know if there was any real basis for them to have made those claims.

From everything I've been able to ascertain, IMO the hype about MicroOS was massively exaggerated and the technology has been irrelevant for years. However, it sure sold and continues to sell a lot of stock.
