Weren't we on the gold standard when Roosevelt confiscated gold from the populace? He needed gold in the treasury. Since we aren't on a gold standard anymore, I don't see how this would happen. However, I do like your idea about having money outside the US.
Excellent news! Are you going back to Zion/Bryce? I was just thinking this am about going to the Columbia Gorge. I have never been there. But I want to do this kind of travel after it cools off. I want to do some boating while the season is still here.
I agree it would be really cool to meet folks after all these years.
Thanks to you and Newly for the info. What a pain.
Speaking of Canada, earlier today on Joe's thread I suggested that if you were to decide to travel north that maybe you can pick me up along the way and we could meet up with the Seattle/Vancouver crew. :)

If Newly decides to travel north again, maybe she can pick me up along the way and we could join in the fun. LOL Then we all could go across to Canada and open bank accounts.

lol! Call me, I will join the group!! I'll ride with Pantera in his...well, Pantera!
A few weeks ago I read something about getting 1099'd for selling gold coins. Did this really happen? Anyone know when it is in effect.
A few restaurants with a heavy pork menu would be wonderful neighbors to the mosque. They should smoke up some pork every day to add aroma to the mix.
OT Newly, I saw this and thought of you.

FCX is a good mover, of course following copper. NEM and GG I have also write covered calls on occassionaly. This last time I actually bought more NEM because I thought it would be called away from me (just missed). I'm waiting for a nice rise before I write calls on them again.
It looks like the market wants to churn until the FOMC minutes are released. Then you will get the action you crave!
I'm trying to catch up on posts and get a sense of what is going on. My trades are a blend of shorter and longer term plays. I'm holding on to some naked oil puts (RIG and IOC). I also play GOOG puts which can be quite dangerous. After all my GOOG trades I'm probably flat or slightly negative. So I keep trying to make it a positive experience.
POT has been active and although I play the common, I have done covered calls on it in the past.
I have a covered call on FCX also, but it probably isn't the best name to do covered calls with.
The easing in and out of positions was something I learned from Zeev. I don't see a reason why you can't do that with options as I do it from time to time.
I'm glad to be in one spot for a little while. I was on the road again until yesterday, but at least I stayed in the state. newly, your trips are a whole lot more interesting than mine. Although I did enjoy my travels.
Sometimes i put on trades that I shouldn't. It didn't occur to me that it could have been motivated by boredom. Shopping is often cheaper.
I once had a GOOG put option that I wrote exercised prior to expiry, which made no sense in that the option had some time premium in it. I don't recall writing naked calls. It was during the "flash crash" that I realised how risky writing naked puts were, so I limit that behavior.
I know I was waaayyy early on selling my calls. :(
For most traders, it does not make sense to do schedule C. Many who do, abandon it later. I looked into this at one time and I dropped the idea. At this point I don't remember the specifics, but if the tax picture changes dramatically, then it will be worth while to take another look. Or just give up on trading!
Sad that someone like that stayed there for so long. No wonder Israel has such a pr problem.
AAPL taking a break before next week's conference and Job's presentation.
GOOG has been on an upward trend the past few days.
Why all this strength in DECK? I just don't get it. I want to short but it is a real snorter.
OT I guess the injuries were too much for him.
Did you hear about the no-hitter that was ruined by the umpire's call?
That works, thanks capgain.
RDS doesn't work for me. There is more to the symbol I believe.
Whats the symbol for Royal Dutch Shell on the US exchanges? Anyone know?
MON catching a bid. Horrible chart.
Anyone have a site for max pain calcs? The one I used to have is no more.
HOOK, another former Zeev play(one of the long-term ones he would complain about) moving.
I see HAUP doing well again today after yesterday's profit taking.
Education stocks on fire
Don't you have a property manager to help you deal with this? Not worth falling out the window. I'd move first.
Westy, so are you saying to put everything into cash - dollars?
NLBNL - New Lows Beget New Lows, I believe was the actual Zeev saying.
Hey, look at HAUP, an old Zeev fav.....
Appraisers are supposed to adjust for the current trend (if any). To simply use historical data is not enough.
BTW I didn't think you were the spelling originator - as you clearly noted you were simply bolding for emphasis. I guess it was briefing.com. Still funny.
What's an appraisel? LOL This came from the NAR report? That is hilarious.
Appraisals lag the market because they use historical data. They are afraid to trend anything up after what has happened.
Hopefully Celente writes better than he speaks. I watched an episode of him on something called prisonplanet. I think it was linked from this thread. There was all this yelling by both Celente and the host. It was like they wanted the viewer to get all uptight and take up arms. Thought provoking, yes. Do I think he is a bit melodramatic, yes. Do I agree with him on gold, yes.
Bruce, I haven't been to the bank lately! thanks for correcting me.
Does MAGS fit your criteria?
I'm thinking the same on RIG. Joestocks posted something on his board, maybe from Option Investor on this.
chuk kam jewelry. I learned something completely new today!
I believe the $10,000 transfer from bank thing was put into place a good number of years ago to prevent money laundering, primarily from drug dealers. I guess it makes sense to do the same thing at the border.
So let me get this straight, if you are bringing your coins you have owned in the US over the border, you declare it and pay a duty?
Zab, I hear you on that memory problem. LOL.
Yes, MAGS. I don't think I made money on that one, so maybe it was a good one to forget!
