I do agree...We are only a couple of months into the new label..I do think Vascepa will sell itself...It's just its going to take more than two or three months..
My time frame is..We win the generic case...3-4 weeks...Then we will see the effects of this miracle drug being recognised..the scripts will begin to go parabolic..
I think JT needs to be more cognizant of his minor share holders..and more observant of his detractors..There have been some viscous shots taken at Amarin from outsiders in the investment field...JT is not an attack dog...So he needs to hire one..

There is much truth to the notion "The captain should go down with the ship." That truism even includes the ship going down in stormy weather..In "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner." The old sailor has the Albatross hung about his neck as the punishment for shooting the bird..
JT has ample rewards for his stewardship..but perhaps he could be persuaded to free up some of the loot...and buy back some of the common stock to support the endeavours of common share holders...He has some $600mil in cash in the bank...How about a $200 mil share buy back...
JT needs to clear out the earwax...If he takes on the the role of spokesman..he should work on is "woe be gotten"...Public speaking...which is a corp earsore...How bout lessons with a public speaking coach. He can afford it...And not improving it is an affront to his shareholders...

Reflexions of a long term market player..
I was heavily invested in the market on "Black Monday" in 1987...I remember it very well...I was working in my Newton Ma. office...I did a boob job on a 55 year old woman...She was the wife of one of the wealthiest men in Boston...He bought buildings in Somerville and East Cambridge in the sixies when they were giving the properties away...He had borrowed, begged and stolen every cent he could get and during the seventies the realestate in Boston exploded...He threw lavish parties every year for six or seven hundred people with entertainers like Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and comedians like Joan Rivers..(Funnier that shit in private shows).. All these in downtown Boston first class hotels...
He came to my office that day and stayed till about 4 PM when his wife was ready to go home..The meltdown on that Monday was easily the most impressive thing I have ever witnessed..In those days you traded through your broker by phone..He had to call the exchange floor and put the order in.., In that October Monday there was so many people trying to sell their shares that there were four hours lag in terms of when you put your order in and when the order got executed..And all during that delay..the price was going down,,thirty forty percent and to the point where most people would have changed their minds..but they couldn't...
I saw Mr. P two days later..I asked him how he did...He was 40 million dollars down... and had not sold a single stock...And the incredible thing is he was not at all upset...It was like nothing. A month and a half later he had recoup all his losses.
The flu panic is nothing...I am very knowledgeable about the 1918 Influenza Pandemic...This bullshit today is nothing like that. Unless there is a mutation which changes the nature of the virus..This is a nothing berger..Once the 1918 pandemic got rolling it wiped out locales the earliest were army bases (it was WW1)...And the virus killed 60-70% within a matter of days..It caused a highly lethal hemorrhagic pneumonitis...that filled the lungs with blood and body fluids and you drowned..and that was in the first few hours time..You were Ok in the morning and dead by nightfall....And you were young and healthy until you contacted the virus..

You echo my sentiments. The good ship Amarin is solid is Yarrr...We have seen 80 cents and that would be taking away the 14$ in this case...We have hundreds of millions of dollars...A management which has seen the table ripped away like the 1013 Adcom SPA renege...And blow after blow and Amarin has answered every bell...And that is when we did not have $650 Mil in the bank..
And most importantly we have what is going to be the greatest drug in the history of medicine....Don't let the bastards ground you down...

As I have posted long ago...I was very good friends with a Federal Judge..OUr families were close...My wife and I would double with the Judge and his wife and go to comedy clubs or out to dinner...
In the mid 80s I was the second plastic surgeon in the Boston area to advertise..I used TV (Daytime..is dirt cheap because only the unemployed watch "Divorce Court" or Phil Donahue)...I also placed a print ad in the Boston Globe Weekend Magazine monthly and that was very effective.
I received a letter from the Mass. Medical Society that they had received a letter from a psychiatrist who claimed my before and after pictures were really the result of artful photography perhaps photo shop..I responded by refuting that claim..The before and afters were not doctored the result was just a very good one..The Medical Society agreed with me and broomed the issue..I was curious why a psychiatrist from another community (.Lincoln''a very wealthy suburb) ws so interested...So I did the logical thing..I hired a detective ...A female former FBI agent to find out more about this interested shrink..She (the PI, went to the doctor's office posing as someone with anxiety issues and during the conversation asked the doctor if he could recommend a doctor in the area for some cosmetic surgery.. The good doctor immediately divulged the fact that one of his closest friends and a 20 year professional relationship was none other than a doctor who was the editor of PLastic and Reconstructive Surgery...Dr. G.
.One of my competitors was that editor of the Plastic Surgery Journal..Later I received a certified letter from the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery...The message was that I might be guilty of violating the ethics code of PRS and that would put my Board Certification in jeopardy..
They wanted me to go cross country to the Plastic Meeting in Seattle..and go before the Ethics board...My lawyer's idea was to appease them..but I had seen the way they treated friends of mine...and I declined the invitation..I talked to my friend the federal judge and he explained to me that in the federal courts the most important thing is the lawyer you get..
I told the Plastic Surgery Society if they pushed this I would sue them in federal court on First Amendment rights. I did not receive any return correspondence for two months then I got a letter saying they tabling the case as they had insufficient evidence to continue...And that was the end of it...I have never forgot the judges words regarding lawyers in the Federal Court system...And I was using the lawyer the judge had recommended...And he told me.."All the ad cases come down to First amendment rights" and courts have never sided with the ones trying to limit free speech...
We have the best lawyers...Covington is the perennial winning litigation firm. nationwide....I like our chances...

Two things do not have all my eggs in AMRN..Check out INSG-ihub and SQNS-ihub...
But in this market milieu. The cops are rounding up the hookers and the piano player...LTCM proved long ago diversifications was never a good hedging strategy..Risk is more directly related to leverage..It's really more a case of how much of your net worth you place at risk..
Im am heavily invested...but not likely to face "gambler's ruin...
The violence of this recent market action suggests it is a "correction" and the loose thinking regarding the Chinese virus tends to substantiate that diagnosis..I sold about 25% of my Amarin Stock..and did put a lot of it back in as SQNS and INSG stock as 5-G plays...I am down in all three..but not leveraged. The Chinese virus is not the pandemic of 1918..When the 1918 H1N1 Spanish flu hit, it hit hard, it wiped out communities it produced a hemorrhagic pneumonitis..You got it in the morning you were perfectly healthy; and you were dead by twilight time... It targeted young healthy adults..This current bug has been described as a cold (URI) upper respiratory viral mutation...
I am not enjoying the ride at present..But corrections have away of going away as mysteriously as they begin..I'm not trading..just watching...
I am very confident the generic case will go well for Amarin..And that will usher in a new and very enjoyable era...So we are looking at another three weeks of pain and then we get the dopamine rush we all need. If 5-G plays out the way the techies think then Inseego and SQNS are likely to play a key role..The mortality rate for the Chinese virus has not been classified as high..barring a mutation it sounds moderate to mild...
Amarin is a very solid situation because..it arguably owns the rights to what is likely going to be the greatest drug the world has ever seen..We are less than three months since the new NDA label and those months include Jan and Feb which are not good months for scripts...
Vascepa is going to be like "Crack"...not because is addictive but because you do not really need to sell it..Crack dealers don't sell the "Crack"...They provide it...The same will be true of Vascepa once the general public understands V's benefits...

Amarin is not about JT...not about analysts opinions...Amarin is about Vascepa...Which will be the most important drug on the planet in couple of years...I'm not certain how much the control of the most important drug on the planet is worth. But I am certain it's worth more than the market thinks it is today..We have had the NDA label for less than three months..For God sakes try being a little more patient..
Right now ignorance has taken charge...The extent of ignorance is pandemic..Even most of the clinicians do not know the whole story...The market knows nothing..purely a case of the blind leading the blind..A month from now we are getting the Judges verdict on the generic trial..We are going to win that and from there we are looking at smooth sailing a very pleasant and profitable Spring..The scripts will increase exponentially..and the price will go through the roof..I bought more stock today...and I never as a rule buy shares that are falling. As Livermore always warned against...But this was too great getting the stock at a discount when there is absolutely nothing wrong with it..Just ignorance..

You echo my sentiments...The board is rife with "stoopid"...jf..you really think gia is a bluff?...Its been on going for more than ten years..And nothing I see changes my mind...There is no buyout scheduled for this week..this month...or this year...Some where, some how. this management got the notion they were capable of running the show..And so far this has been the game plan...
The stock market is in a "correction"..Corrections are generally swift and painful, with usually some manufactured excuse (or maybe not)...the PPS may drop as low as 20% (extreme)..but recovery is the rule..and a month later it is as if nothing ever happened..
Right now the only real overhang we have is the Judge Du's decision...I am not a lawyer..but I do have an inkling of the issues and it seems very unlikely Amarin loses this one...I was involved in the 889 patent issue concerning "obviousness" and can say with conviction the 889 issue..trig lowering without LDLC increase was not obvious..not even close..and the PTO made that determination.
The judge stated she had real concerns over the issue of indirect inducement by the generics and there is good precedence "Sanofi"..that is very similar to Amarin....
I am not worried about the judge's decision..She will decide for Amarin..Then it is off to the races...
A month from now everything's coming up roses and daffodils..We have too many of these know it all newbies..critics who come down from the mountain, after the battle and kill the wounded..

Reducing the EPA/AA or AA/EPA ratio to the simplest terms..looking at the R-I trial...What was the difference between the two arms...It was no more, or no less than the fact that one arm was taking 4 gms of EPA per day..and this was certainly increasing blood levels of EPA... The trial design was to keep every other imaginable factor age, gender, CVD risk factors. the same...Only the EPA intake was changed..
So what is the argument that it was not the change in EPA intake..
What we know about the eicosanoid system...We know that every cell in the body with the exception of Red Blood cells...Has molecular receptors on the external cell membrane and the nuclear membranes that respond to (interact) with EPA and Arachidonic acid (AA)...EPA and AA compete on an equal level for these receptors...COX and LOX and nuclear PPAR receptors..When these receptors are occupied they produce a series of active molecules which are prostaglandins, leucrtrennes, Thromboxanes which effect Systemic Inflammation...Once a receptor is occupied by EPA or AA the receptor is closed for future interactions. Both EPA and AA are pro inflammatory..Its just that AA is much more pro inflammatory..
The above is a very simplistic explanation of what happens..Actually other molecules can and do interact with there membrane receptors. Two example are Aspirin and Steroids...
The simplistic picture is that if the ratio of AA/EPA is high then cells are making more inflammatory eicosanoids and Systemic Inflammation (SI) is higher.. The inflammatory system is not localised but is present in all calls and the sensitivity (SI) is largely determined by the AA/EPA blood and tissue levels..This has a tremendous effect on the body. The most obvious example is systemic infection like the flu or pneumonia..The body temperature rises..we feel weak and depressed all of which is described as "sickness behavior"..
On a more subtle level if our AA/EPA are chronically high the elevated SI level accelerate the degenerative processes of aging..One of the most obvious and serious being Cardio vascular disease..The R-I trial is really a confirmation of the EPA/AA..AA/EPA ratios effect on cardiovascular disease and CVD events..
This is not conjecture...There is no other plausible explanation... The reason why these doctors don't know this is because the the Eicosanoid system is not featured in Med School. Clinicians are not scientists...In fact the entire structure in clinical medicine invays against doing anything which is not main stream..That is what the "Standard of Care" means...As long as you do whatever everyone else is doing...You are protected legally...Even if what everyone else is doing does not work...
You must understand KOLs are not always right..They are just "key"..

Nice post...I agree...
Adding some color to the brown...CocaCola was introduced in a era when "soft drinks" were only soft because they did not contain ETOH (hard liquor)...Coke was developed by a druggist and contained Cocaine..That did a good deal of the marketing....
Vascepa is pretty much 180 degrees off early Coke as far as marketing...being that not only are we not selling an addicting substance...We are being thwarted in our endeavour by the US government (the FDA)..in our marketing attempts. The FDA has deemed the American public too stupid to read a drug label or interpret a TV (or other media) ad unless it is OKed by FDA..and FDA is actually censoring truthful and non misleading information that could save Americans lives...After the Generics trial is finished..Amarin should go after the FDA once more in federal court on more 1A issues...And this time around Amarin should ask for damages....

The problem is whether the results are going to be deemed positive..The first reports out were on regression...and I'm not sure how convincing that sounds...Definitely not up to R-I standards...
Remember current AMI theory is plaque rupture up stream is the problem..Vasoactive particles released from the ruptured plaque shuts off the blood flow..suddenly..Where as Budoff seems to back in the arteries getting sludged up era when pretty much anybody who is current, understands, is not the problem.. The problem is plaque rupture and that goes toward plaque stability and thickness of the plaque cover...It probably is mainly the degree of inflammation inside the plaque..that like a volcano causes it to rupture and the cover thickness.

Great results from R-I...
Not great comments from all these famous cardiologists..I guess its tough to teach "old dogs" new tricks...These guys just do not get it...Take away the EPA/AA ratios and what do you have?...Certainly not Budoff's pathetic EVAPORATE trial...I was at the Orlando AHA meeting when ChERRY was presented (in a small room where most of the chairs were empty) it was a 5 PM presentation and most of the crowd had gone home or were getting ready for dinner...The presenter was a young Japanese guy who looked like a teen ager...and clearly was very uncomfortable with the English language and spoke in a voice so lowly as he could barely be heard...After the presentation the AHA monitor asked the predictable question.."What were the statin doses?..Turns out the patients were on Max doses..
Cherry is still ten times better than EVAPORATE..because CHERRY did understand the issue was plaque stability and not just the gross amount of plaque in general...CHERRY look at cap thickness..Not overall plaque progression or regression.
IT's all about the AA/EPA ratios...the SI levels..everything emanates from the SI levels..High trigs are in virtually every case the result of high SI (high AA/EPA) levels..not from eating too many trigs. What was R-I...It was a CVOT where they decreased the AA/EPA levels by increasing the dietary intake of EPA..Why is that so effing difficult for these geniuses to understand...They were not not manipulating the intake of bacon or butter or fried chicken...They were increasing the daily intake of EPA...Why haven't we heard about the AA/EPA levels...Just because the AHA is ignorant about AA/EPA does not alter the facts. Is it so hard for to understand..the old lipid picture was not correct..it was never correct...Will we ever move on...I understand Budoff will never get it..I hope eventually Bhatt might..

I have been heavily involved and invested in the company for ten years and do not agree with posters who think management is incompetent..This management has shepherded Amarin through a long history of difficult events..Events which would have spelled the end of most endeavors..The FDA's decision to rescind the ANCHOR SPA was no different materially than if Judge Du decided for the generics...Actually much worse...Amarin needed to meet the requirement to complete the lengthy and costly R-I trial..With insufficient funds..and no guarantee the results would be anywhere near good enough and most of the clinical societies convinced the trial would be just the last of a series of failures...
Amarin's management was fearless in taking on the FDA in the federal courts both on the NCE issue and the First Amendment right to free speech..Most experts thought that these were reckless, stupid and expensive decisions...That Amarin had no chance to prevail and should conserve their meager capital..Amarin's management got it right...
Now we have "new experts" and some of the old recidivists...beating the drum to replace this management or sell the company or both...Because they believe some bloated Big Pharma can do a better job..because the scripts sales are not at 200K/week...And we are currently less than 2 months passed the FDA's new CVD events NDA...And the first two months of the year are historically slow for drug sales...
Two months in pharma is a blink of the eye..We are not yet able to use our "best stuff." My comments that Vascepa will sell itself are being scoffed at...Be patient...a lifesaving drug which addresses the largest
clinical indication (cardiovascular disease)..is safe and cost effective comes along only once every fifty years..or more..Vascepa is the most impressive drug in my lifetime and I was there shortly after penicillin.
V is more effective than statins and is a hell of a lot easier to take and it won't relieve you of your muscle strength or your memory...
Vascepa also has the benefit of relieving so many other diseases and conditions related to the aging process...In most people the aging process is well underway by age forty...The only exception being Tom Brady...He needs to be on it starting tomorrow. Thanks for the reference...I'm not sure why this would apply to my son..My son has Asperger's syndrome it is a congenital abnormality in which the neuro chemistry is normal..
The best current theory on Aspergers is they "kidnap" a portion of the left temporal lobe: a special location of the brain that is involved in social behavior and non verbal communication...They use this area and apply it to other tasks such as math music or science...painting...and other activities including video game or even pinball
Because they use an area normally devoted to social relations with others. They tend to be socially awkward..but cat be brilliant or wizards in other diverse areas..
...The greatest pinball wizard was an Aspy. He could keep five or more balls in play..and hit sequential targets..never tilted..He was studied by research scientists and he played different than others even world champs..His eyes never deviated or flickered as they normally when people play pinball..He was able to see the whole pinball area and took it in its entirety...He was a real Tommie...
So Aspys can be real geniuses...And they frame the stereotype of the mad scientist,,,as they frequently "Dress funny" and are socially inept..They frame our ideas and serve as models for "The Big Bang" TV series or mad scientists...I believe a lot of the progress humans have made in the pats 60 or 70 thousand years is probably due to Aspys even though they probably got little of the acclaim..

You may be intelligent, but no one is going to confuse you with a creative thinker..You are all about the party line..Diversify don't put your eggs in one basket and every other cliche...
The crux of your and every other soul who thinks a brand can not compete with a generic is based on a fallacy...The fallacy is generics are always going to be the preferred drug because they automatically get lower tiers...Reality is they only get lower tiers if the retail price of the generic is lower than that of the brand. Generally speaking the price of the brand is higher because it has been increased during the HW exclusion period to defray the cost of the FDA marketing process..
The reality is the lower tier, by state laws, must go to the cheapest alternative if the drugs are essentially the same..It would be unfair to patients if they were forced to buy the more expensive drug. So the real question is whether or not Amarin can sell the drug for less than a generic..And as far as I know there is no law in physics or thermodynamics that says this is impossible..
This is where the notion of volume comes in...There are other posters on this board who also like you are very smart, but do not think strategically..We have examples that confound the notion that a brand can not compete with a generic..Some in the drug business..some not..
Volume means size..Walmart and Amazon are both great examples..of what volume means...If you have enough volume you don't need high margins and the question is simply can you produce and sell the product for less than your competition..The reason it is so hard to compete with Walmart is that their volume is so high that their suppliers have to accept less for their product..because the suppliers can not afford to lose the account..
There are drugs..example Bayer Aspirin..that are still sold by the developer..Finally... there is no law preventing Amarin from selling "generic" Vascepa...I would not discount their ability to undercut the the other sources as they are better situated with the supplier producer and have a head start..
All of this is hypothetical and I expect the courts to side with Amarin..Amarin would certainly challenge the verdict which would have a chilling effect on medical research..We simply can not afford not to reward effort, diligence and the fortunes spent on discovering new drugs by giving away the rewards to those who have contributed none of the above on the basis of technicalities of the law..Not if the Law is "reason devoid of passion"...
