You make it far too logical...(I agree with you)...Amarin should talk to its KOLs ..particularly Bhatt...No question the greatest dangers from this contagion are related to increased Systemic Infammation...And if the cardiologists don't understand this then they should talk to the epidemiologists....
We have the ideal drug here...It's our chance to make a real entrance on the world stage...Amarin should go to China..Where the action really is.
We do have a presence in China already...We know the elderly with a CVD history are the group most at risk from the COVID-19 virus..Vascepa is benign..Do a short term clinical study on elderly with CVD histories..Vascepa verses placebo...Should see benefits in a month or less...Nothing to lose..everything to gain...

As I have noted before..The future is a slut...I am counting on a good report from Judge Du...
I think the COVID-19 is more sizzle and less meat. I don't want to go politics here...Let's just say there is a substantial crowd which is hell bent on stirring the political pot up and scaring the people is a good way to accomplish that..As is a concerted effort to torpedo the Stock Market..
What I know about Amarin is the R-I results and the market swoon is not going to change those results. Forget about the pandemic panic..The real killer in the USA is CVD and Amarin's got a drug that can lower that risk..And that is not some TV boneheads trying their hardest to get their viewers to vote for Bernie, Bloomy, or Bidey. Just do not let them scare you out of Amarin..
I vote for the cruise after the Judges decision..

Why this outbreak is a scam....
The hall mark of a truly viscous pandemic is the vector is airborne...The COVID-19 virus is not transmitted airborn but rather by contact which is contact with droplets which come into contact by touching a droplet on a surface with your hand and then transferring the virus to your mouth or nose (perhaps your eyes)...
Why is this so less deadly than acquiring the virus airborne? Well think of it this way..getting the virus airborne is like inhaling poisonous gas..The virus is spread out in the air and has the potential to hit all the alveolar surfaces of the lung at the same time rather than having to dissipate from a small area by contact..The reason the victims of the 1918 contagion died usually within hours after contact was the entire lung surfaces were involved...The same was true of the Plague which was transmitted both by contact and airborn, but the airborn spread was much more devestating and death came much quicker. All the great pandemics need airborne spread...This is even more important in modern medicine when we actually have some idea of what is happening and how we might treat it..

Interestingly enough I use to live on the Island of Hokkaido when I was four and five years old..My father was the military governor of HoKKaido (he was on MacArthur's staff and we lived in Japanese Shogun palace..This was 6 months after the war ended and the Japanese would work for a bar of soap..We had seven servants and a chauffeur...My brother and I had our own servant (Sadee)...We lived next to Hakodate which was just a fishing village at that time...and now is built out..Later the base was opened in Sapporo and we were moved to the Army base..(a real downer)...
I could actually speak some Japanese back then... ringo was cherry...Tomongo was egg..
There was a resort area on HoKkaido called Nu borro betsu (no idea how to spell it) where there was skiing...And maybe this is where the recent outbreak is..
This all ended when my father contracted Polio and died in an Iron Lung..(a true pandemic)....He was 32 years old and had fought and survived many of the worst battles of WW2...both in Europe and the Pacific..He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery...

I agree...The COVID-19 issue is way overblown..The reality here is the virus is highly contagious but not lethal for most of the population. This is not the "Black Death" of the 13th century and not the 1918 Spanish Flu.
In the middle ages no one had a clue as to where the problem was coming from and in 1918 the flu was so dangerous and so deadly..targeting young health adults... that it killed you in a few hours after contracting it..Causing you to drowned in your own secretions (this was a cytokine storm)..Your systemic inflammation gone "viral"...And like the "black death" the contagion was spread airborne...A big factor...
This COVID-19 contagion is not spread airborne...But rather by droplets containing the virus and later hand to mouth or nose...The effects of the virus are not fast acting...And the serious (read fatal) events take considerable time to go into effect..In essence raising SI levels over a period of days until the SI levels begin to trigger Pulmonary or CVD events...Actually if you put these patient on Vascepa when they were first diagnosed..IMO you could cut the fatal cases down to next to zero..
Can I call this "the KIWI Flu"...much to do about nothing..
I agree with FDR in this one...

Native to New Zealand the Kiwi Bird is a flightless bird whose diet includes earth worms..The Kiwi has very large feet and uses them in an interesting way...It stomps its feet, "dancing" in a small area..The repetitive stomping of the large KIWI feet mimics the fall of rain drops which brings earth worms to the surface..Where the clever Kiwi gobbles them up..
Perhaps this explains some of the KIWI behavior we see on this board..

Regarding EPA effects on SI...Most likely the anti SI levels are determined by the EPA/AA ratios...Probably aim for 1/1 ratio...That could probably be obtained in a week or two...
EPA would not stop the contagion. Rather it would moderate the effects of the the virus...and prevent deaths or CVD and pulmonary events...
":>) JL
Vascepa and and SARS (serious acute respiratory syndrome) COV 2 virus...
Individuals at risk for death from the COV-19 (2019) are older...over 65 individuals with a history of Cardiovascular disease...obesity, lipid disorders including T2DM..and the threat is not only respiratory but is cardiovascular (strokes and MIs)..
There is a great deal of evidence that the RNA virus triggers elevated Systemic Inflammation...And is similar to the effects which causes increased risk in people who do not have the virus..And it is very logical to conclude that EPA which lowers SI in non COV 2 patients and as a consequence lowers CVD risk; should be effective at lowering CVD risk in those infected by the virus...
Think of it as the virus not killing all the cells...But rather triggering wide scale inflammation which then attacks the bodies vascular system..and producing all the conditions including the lipid changes (including T2DM) we see in non virus patients with high SI levels..
As we did with Vascepa in the earlier days we looked for clues to elevated SI in populations..They are also here in this latest contagion..
Look at Japan..A very crowded island with large cities and packed populations..Japan has a mature population with many elderly which are at risk for death from the COV-2 virus.Japan has had less than 20 fatal cases..and half of these were on a cruise ship. Itis amazing that Japan has so few fatal cases. What Japan does have is a diet which is high in EPA...Remember COV-2 is not airborn spread..so those japanese masks are not going to do much to cut the risk...
I think attacking the Virus by moderating SI is the most logical way of lowering the risk of CVD events and fatalities. It's the elevated SI that is the killer..Patients at risk..(over 60YO)...Should be put on Vascepa..

I have never read the post trial brief..but I am very familiar with the 889 Patent and its history in the PTO..and I know the fact that trig lowering did not result in significant LDL-C increases was not contingent on the trig levels being in particular range..And if Amarin is arguing that then they are missing the point..I know because I corresponded with the PTO and they agreed with my opinion...Consult with KIWI...Most of my correspondence was when I was posting on the Yahoo board...

This is pure nonsense...There was no distinction made based on trig levels being very high...EPAs ability to lower Trigs without substantially raising LDL-C was not only surprising because all other agents which lowered trigs whether the trigs were over 150mg/dl or 500mg/dl all raised LDL; and that was why the 889 patent was anything but obvious...In fact that was the principal issue in the FDA's decision to renege on the ANCHOR SPA..

COVID -19 and inflammation...From "the Scientist Magazine....
Quote "For reasons that aren’t entirely clear, some people—especially the elderly and sick—may have dysfunctional immune systems that fail to keep the response to particular pathogens in check. This could cause an uncontrolled immune response, triggering an overproduction of immune cells and their signaling molecules and leading to a cytokine storm often associated with a flood of immune cells into the lung. “That’s when you end up with a lot of these really severe inflammatory disease conditions like pneumonia, shortness of breath, inflammation of the airway, and so forth,” says Rasmussen.
Local inflammation can turn into widespread inflammation of the lungs, which then has ripple effects across all organs of the body. This could also happen if the virus replicates faster than the immune system can respond, so that it then has to play catch-up to contain the pathogen—a situation that could also cause the immune defense to spiral out of control. “With mice, we know that in some cases, particularly for SARS and MERS coronaviruses, virus replication is very rapid and in some cases overwhelming” to the immune system, says Perlman."
Cytokine storms are when there is a rapid buildup of pro inflammatory chemicals..And this is thought to pay a major role in lethal cases..Vascepa's actions on moderating pro inflammatory cytokines suggest Vascepa could be life saving and should be given to patients over 55 to 60 year old..(patients at risk..of death from the viral infection.)..

Chances are good that Vascepa will help patients with COVID-19 respiratory involvement by moderating inflammation..In my experience Vascepa is very effective in treating Herpes Simplex virus..,Vascepa definitely prevents outbreaks...V also, by reducing SI' also will reduce fevers and other symptoms of increased SI...Including pulmonary edema related to the virus..

Why the effects of EPA were not obvious..
Initially the PTO's examiner denied the claim of the 889 patent on the basis of it being obvious (to one skillful in the art). At that point I wrote the PTO and offered this explanation....
Why the 998 patent was not obvious...
Prior to EPA all trig lowering agents..niacin, fibrates, and DHA raised the the LDL-C levels..and since FDA considered the LDL-C to be the only acceptable surrogate blood marker for CVD event risk so increasing LDL-C was not considered a good thing.. Lowering trigs according to FDA was an unproven method for lowering CVD, but, increasing LDL-C was according to FDA was a proven factor in increasing CVD risk..This resulted in Lovaza receiving a CRL as a CVD lowering agent.
The pathophysiology indicated that lowering trigs should increase LDL-C..both trigs and LDL-C being lipids require that they be transported inside proteins that show a non polar lipid interface to the contained lipids (trigs and Cholesterol).and an aqueous (polar) interface to the outside blood...Particles who contain principally trig are called VLDL particles..and particles which convey mainly cholesterol are called LDL-C particles...The reality is that VLDL particle also convey lesser amounts of cholesterol and LDL particle can carry small amounts of triglycerides..
Further confounding the issue is the fact that the protein which which contains these two separate lipids (trigs and cholesterol) is the same protein..Both VLDL and LDL both use the protein ApoB .. The distinction of whether the particle is VLDL or LDL-C is only determined by the relative amounts of the two lipids in the particle..So what happens is that if VLDL particle loses some of its trigs (50%) it converts into an LDL-C particle...So lowering trigs should obviously raise LDL-C...And this was the case in every other trig lowering agent..
The fact EPA lowered trigs and did not increase LDL-C was anything but obvious...It was a huge surprise...Actually I am not aware of a good explanation of how this could happen...Most likely EPA was not only lowering trigs but was somehow also lowering cholesterol.

Can you say ridiculous...MTNB...don't these guys understand this is not about trig lowering...This is why MTMB will never be a real stock play.
Elevated trigs are a marker for elevated Systemic Inflammation...In the same fashion that Elevated SI also results in increased Insulin Resistance (IR)...
Unfortunately (for MTMB) trig lowering agents do not lower CVD event risk unless they also lower SI...For example DHA is more effective at lowering trigs at a per dose basis than EPA does..But DHA does not lower CVD event risk to any degree...The fact MAT9000 might lower trigs more effectively than Vascepa is completely irrelevant. MTNB is free to run a CVOT against Vascepa, but they will be deeply disappointed..

I am MD clinician and have had a long term interest in the great H1N1 influenza Pandemic in 1918..Despite possible (probable) economic consequences of this current COVID-19 virus...So far IMO it does not deserve the attention it is getting at present..That could change but right now the virus has been with us since December 2019 and it has yet to show its teeth..

I understand infections and contagion..My father was a West Pointer a paratrooper 11th Airborne..on Macarthur's staff in Honshue Japan and died from polio in an iron lung at 32 years of age..He fought in some of the worst battles of WW11...Including jumping on Corregidor and the Battle of Manilla..I was just five years old..
The impact of a virulent pandemic can not be measured by tallying up the number of individuals who contract the virus...Its impact has to be measured by the number of individuals that succumb to the disease or are permanently disabled..So far since Dec..there are about 3000 deaths world wide...The 1918 pandemic killed 195,000 people under the age of 65 in the USA in the month of Oct 1918..This was actually about three months after the virus mutated into the lethal form. The virus was first noted in the spring, but it only caused mild symptoms. In July it mutated into the deadly form causing hemorrhagic pneumonia...It killed an estimated 50 mil world wide in 1918...
So far we have one documented death in the USA...No doubt rigid measures can cut down the spread...But realistically we just do not know how lethal this bug is..but in its present form it does not look like the reincarnation of the 1918 "Spanish Flu"..I don't think fear mongering by the media or even other individuals really helps the situation..We will find out soon enough...
