Per Putnam
Our agreement with APS remains intact. The contract APS signed with Wencor is between APS and Wencor. The margins that we have negotiated haven't changed. (The APS EDIG contract was negotiated back in June / July 2003. Monies acquired thru one of our stock placements were utilized securing the current margins.)
OT Ed Mahon "Chef's passed away yesterday
I received this email from his friend and an obituary from his first wife today.
Please forgive the public posting of his passing. I know many on these boards that communicated with Ed and felt it important to communicate.
Ed was invested in the company since the Norris days. He's been thru it all.
Larry
I have received multiple requests for information regarding cards and memorials for Ed, so please forgive the bulk email. Ed had requested that memorials go to the hospice that took care of him. It is a beautiful facility run by a small order of nun's who provide compassionate care for those who are unable to bear the expense of hospice. They operate on donations only. If you care to send a memorial, I have provided the appropriate addresses below.
All cards will be displayed at his memorial service because Ed had so many friends around the world. It is comforting to know that so many people are expressing their sympathy even though they cannot physically attend his memorial service. The date for the Minnesota service has not been set as yet but I will notify you as soon as possible.
Address for cards and memorials
Joe Zgainer
2306 4th Street N.E
Minneapolis, MN 55418
If you would like to send a memorial directly to the hospice, the address is:
Our Lady of Good Counsel Home
2076 St. Anthony Avenue
St. Paul, MN 55104
Ed will be creamated and his ashes scattered at Hillside Cemetery in St. Anthony, MN. A plaque will be placed on a tower as a "footprint" of his life.
If any of you have further questions, please feel free to contact me.
Blessings to you all.....his friends.

Dear Everyone,
This morning Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at approximately 5:30 AM Ed Mahon went home to be with the Lord at the age of 59. I can’t say that Ed had an easy life, but he did make the best of what came at him. As most of you know I married Ed when I was 21 years old, (March 21st 1970) he was my boss at Grant City in Pompton Plains New Jersey (now it is an A&P). Ed was raised in Denville, graduated Morris Catholic, and then graduated St. Edwards College in Texas. In 1973 Ed and I bought Teddy Roosevelt’s summer home in Mt. Snow Vermont and we opened a restaurant - Ed named it the Afton. In 1975 Ed and I were divorced. Circumstances led Ed to move back in with our family in 1990 the family then consisted of Steve Hille (we have been married for 29 years now) Dana Hille (then 12 years old, now 26), Cara Hille (then 5 years old, now 19) I remember like it was yesterday . . . when I asked Ed to move in with us, he said “you only want me down there (NJ) so you can get me to know that God of yours” . . . and he was so right!!! After Ed lived with us for 1 month he asked Jesus into his heart and life, his heavy desire to drink left him immediately, and he began a brand new life in Christ. His talent was being a great chef, he never really used his degree in finance, but he did use his chef talents. He lived with us for 3 years and six months during which he worked at William Paterson College and Great Gorge. Ed sacrificed a year of his life on the Mercy ship, and met some wonderful people who ultimately ended up walking him the last few steps of his journey home. Ed is now preparing a banquet table in heaven for all of us. If you have any doubts of making it to that table please call me or email me. It is so easy to reserve a spot at that table. Jesus wants you to be there - no matter how you have made your “life decisions” to date he wants to erase it all, provide a new heritage and when your last few steps on earth happen and they will . . . you will have a peace that passes all understanding and you will be forever at that banquet table (no gaining of weight either).
Let’s make Ed’s life and death more worthwhile having you accept Jesus will do that very thing.
Love, Cathleen Ackerman Mahon Hille
Unless I'm mistaken confirming what was already discussed during a conference call does not violate any SEC rules.
From EDIGlongs transcript
Q- Has Fijutsu 10 expressed interest in our IFE device for automotive application.
While Eclipse by Fijutsu 10 has expressed interest in this platform we are also looking at other companies that are looking for audio/video solutions for the home and automotive environment. In fact we are also working with another well known name in the automotive infotainment industry on this type of particular device.
They also disclosed elsewhere in the CC that Fugitsu 10 would be booked this Q
An airline like South West Air would actually be a bigger catch than Delta. They currently have no IFE installed in any of their aircraft. We know they are looking to correct that with a solution that is synergistic with their business model. http://www.agoracom.com/nonmemforum/msgreview.asp?id=294469&refid=0&orig=294469
Delta would certainly be a whale of a catch but with it's existing IFE's I don't think it represents as much potential. It seems to me that many of the airlines would take an interest in the Digeplayer as a suppliment to their existing IFE systems.
As has been stated, the other factor in this is # of long distance flights the airline offers.
I asked Putnam about the wireless project couching it in terms of the IFE and internet capability and all I got out of him was a generic answer like (can't remember his exact words) If an OEM wants that kind of capability we can offer it. I think it would require a major redesign in order to do it with the IFE. Keyboard or curser point and click type of thing. I'm not familar enough with the technologies to suggest it's even do - able. I suppose anything is possible but it seems like quite a stretch. I think theres a better chance that we'll make inroads with many if not most airlines (including TED) as an option to existing IFE systems. It is after all an additional revenue stream.
I agree Anna. Good to see Larry is still with us, alive and well. Hang in ther buddy. BTW. I don't think Gateway is the big deal at Comdex. My gut tells me the wireless that they have been alluding to finding out more about "later on this year", is much more significant.
OT, Weren't skimmers designed to remove such excrement. (tootsie rolls) Thank god there are still filters. In responce to......
"OT: And tootsie rolls neither sink nor swim, they merely float about. (A truly dismal existence, but they can't help it; it's part of their innate being.)"
I believe it was General Electric. The exhibit as I remember it was orrigionally developed for the 1964 Worlds Fair held in Flushing Meadows, NYC. It was dismantled and reconstructed at Disney in Anaheim. The building was actually a large carosel that rotated from one generation of appiances and inovations to the next starting around 1900 and projecting into the future. It was one of Disneys early attempts at animatronics.
I caught that too Todd but the exact wording in Freds letter reads " the first branded units to be released to consumers in early November. " It doesn't say anything about launched. I'm not entirely sure what the difference is between Launched and released to customers. It would seem to me that it would take nearly a week from the time the product is launched till they are released to customers. At the very least launched and released to customers are 2 different things.
OT With advice like that coming from a guy like you I think I'll become a vegitarian!
Wishfull thinking, You ain't my buddy. Never have been, never will be. Pride and integrity are measures of self worth. You don't come close Dave. Just leave it at that.
They already preannounced 500k in revenues from the Softech/HP Disney deal in the July CC. The booking of the APS, Alaska Air deal should have been booked upon delivery in September. This would have been 1M, less any NRE fees that may have been booked in a previous quarter. I doubt if any Fugitsu 10 revenues have been booked in the last Q as most of the NRE charges have already happened. I'm sure there are additional NRE fees from as yet undisclosed sources and revenues from retail sales of the O1K etc. My guess for the previous Q revenues are aproximately 1.6M. This would still yeild aproximately 200-300k in losses for the Q but still trending north in every aspect with Fugitsu 10 revenues still ahead of us...The next Q should continue the trend. Profitability is close at hand.
It's my understanding that the 40Gig O1K is just a retrofitted 20Gig. That is to say there are 2 ways to be out of stock on a 40 gig Odyssey, be out of stock on the basic 20Gig Odyssey or be out of stock on the 40gig HDD's. I asked Putnam the question months ago about carrying the extra inventory and he explained that it was a 5 min. fix to take out the 20G HDD and replace it with the 40. I thought it was pretty slick. During the Aug 14th webcast Fred mentioned specifically Disney would be announcing more about what we've been working on in "early October" I'm not sure how much it has to do with the Mission Space ride other than language compatability. It seems as though the reference of "a larger campaign to promote Disney's signiture resort in Orlando" is on the same timetable as Fred alluded to. Shouldn't be long folks!

Putnam is out of the office until next monday, Oct 6
The next IFE conference should be held in April. Thats the same conference we opted out of that was held in London April 7-9 this past year. At that point in time Alaska Air's exclusive should be history. I understood Twentieth Century Fox also had an exclusive. There's was for 6 moonths. That puts it on Aprils doorstep. My take is that any airlines announcing contracts with APS will be delayed from implimenting them until about that time. Then it's Katie Bar the door time!
Putnam told me yesterday that the website would be revamped by the end of the month
Nite is the only one at .47 next is Schuab at 51. I don't think Nite was participating late yesterday afternoon.
APS has no engineers so your point is well taken. Odds are we played a role and it dovetails nicely with the Skyview/digEplayer. In fact it probably enables the passenger to view current release movies at the going rate while watching reruns of Sinfeld for free, keeping track of usage every step of the way. The applications are extensive if this is indeed how it works. Larry
Putnam told me on monday the webcast could be as early as July 1, but before the 4th. They are awaiting permission to release information from their OEM's......apparently "it's worth waiting for."
Tenderloin: Whats the source and date of that Ferguson interview?///
I believe we're in the ballpark. The orrigional contract with Fugitsu 10 was for 4000 units and yeilded us just under 1M. That included NRE fees, manufacturing and our profits. The 800k letter of credit covered the manufacturing and profits part of the contract. Meaning 800k / 4000 units yeilds a cost basis to Fugitsu 10 of $200/unit. With that kind of cost basis Fugitsu 10 and dealers can make a handsome profit selling it at $500/unit. Works for me! Larry
Totally OT Need help with a quote. "The measure of a Nations greatness is how it treats those in need" This has to do with a letter to the editor article I've composed to our local paper. I'm not entirely sure if I've accurately quoted this but thats the gist of it. I'd like to know who said it. It sounds like JFK but I can't find a reference to him saying anything like that. TIA Larry
I think the main reason for not seeking reviews is to avoid the pitfall of not being able to accomodate the potential windfall of orders. Windfall of orders, kinda has a nice ring to it doesn't it! Few resources and little inventory necessarily means slowly ramping up. He also said to me they were more interested in getting reviews of the players they've contracted with OEM's for.
I believe our margins on Lanier where manufacturing was involved was 28%. Then Lanier took a margin on top of that. The same is true with Fugitsu 10. In this case we should be able to realize both the margin from manufacturing and the etail margin as well. Any way you cut it, it's got to be better than 28%.
Purely a guess but I'd say closer to $140 - 150 / unit......which translates to $140,000 - 150,000 / an entire production run of 1000. Another way of looking at it is that it covers more than 1/2 our burn rate.
Arkie, I had a conversation with Robert about 2 months ago asking about Freds option purchase back in Sept 2000. I wanted to know if we were doing business with Lernout and Hauspie at the time. His exact words were "Very much so." Intel had invested 20M in them and they were the leaders in the voice to text and text to voice. The technology was still recovering from their failure. If you'll recall. They were one of the leaders in corrupt bookeeping. Their shareprice was trading around 60 back in Oct 2000. The scandal arose just days before our November shareholders meeting. I 'm working from memory here but I think they had planned on rolling out a handheld called the Nuk that fall. The introduction of VTT- TTV technology. It never happened. Also remember Skip Mathews involvement in VTT- TTV and Intel. I think allot fell apart that fall in addition to this deal and the Nasdaq listing.
OT CDR, You know as well as I that taken in proper context my comments were not intended as preachin g but as constructive council. Now if you chose to continue this discussion on the main board perhaps the rest of the forum can bare witness to the cnmplete context. I would suggest you take the advice of John Lennon and let it be! Larry
OT Desderata has nothing to do with distancing within the human spirit....On the contrary Cliff it has everthing to do with creating a wholeness. Didn't you get the part where it said "Avoid loud and agressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit." Keep it in perspective.
You made a big mistake. The maximum number of employees EDIG ever had was 46 about last spring. The current head count is 32 although Wendy mentioned 30 during an interview she conducted last week for PC magazine. When I first invested in EDIG their head count was 17 back in April 99. I'd suggest doing a little DD before making statements such as this. "EDIG is down to 20
employees(they had 70 last year.)"
FM transmitter for wireless playback on open FM frequency. I hadn't noticed this feature on the Samsung Yepp 900 before. This would enable the Yepp to playback it's contents on a vehicles FM tuner. I had a conversation with Collier almost a year ago when he discussed this capability. Not suggesting it's us inside, just a nice feature!......
No disrecpect taken Marc, but I do care. I'm looking forward to hearing managements perspective regarding the CES. Allot happens in a short amount of time and management knows some of their investors follow what happens closely. I was told we'd get a summary of what happened sometime this week. Larry
Did anyone go to Audiobooks? The one and only reference to a relationship with them is from the Wed. PR stating our products would be presented in their booth. To my knowledge there has been no explanation of what if any relationship we have with them or who they are. TIA. Larry
I remember from a long time ago the notion that a handheld device would interface with telimatics via an fm frequency ....this sounds an awful lot like it....I like it!
Duke: The contract with Fugitsu 10 is 1000 unit/ month for 4 months initailly.....or about $ 250K / month that goes directly to the bottom line. Thats what I meant by that one contract alone just about covers our $300K / month burn rate.
I believe that contract alone is nearly sufficient to cover our now about 300K / month burn rate.
I emailed Robert this morning after the Equator PR. He phoned me back a few minutes ago so I was able to ask him directly if we were embedded in the SOC. He said it was too early in our relationship to get into the particulars. I asked if we were integrating our technology and theirs with a FPGA. He said, "no thats an entirely different technology." I asked if we were just another integrator much like we are with DIVX and he said "No, we're more than that" I asked if we'd be hearing more about our relationship with them during the CES and he said he didn't think so......I also asked if the PR represented our unexpected announcement and he said there would be more.....Think positive!
