How does ones report a TOS violation that arrived via PM? I don't see a link to automatically report it, as I do on public postings.
never mind..
What did I miss? Is the court jester of simean ancestry finally gone?
Much simpler to who?? The universe populated only by you, kimosabe.
I followed you to a point, but still don't see how the favorites page is getting updated, without a manual refresh from me. Unless I misread you earlier, even if I have that annoying <g auto-refresh feature turned off, this new thing will still work. Or does it only work if the auto refresh is also turned on?
Incidentally, and probably not germane, but I recently used AOL's stand alone Instant Messenger, and while it's not a browser (or is it) they figured out how to flash/change the color of the minimized taskbar button, without taking focus, when there is a new message, so perhaps there might be clues there, that could help you.
Edit:
Spellcheck is burping on "taskbar" and "auto-refresh" in case you care. <g
And also on "spellcheck" lol
I assume this only works if you keep at least one browser window open (or minimized) on an IHUB page?
As an aside, can you explain in layman's terms how you are accomplishing this? Is your system scanning every single bookmark of every single poster, after every post made on the site, and then sending a packet to whomever appears to be logged in, that has that board bookmarked? That would seem like an awful lot of "overhead" as you once put it. Or is it something much simpler, that my less-geekly (or is that geeky) mind is able to see right now?
Just curious, and mightily impressed. :)
Well, duh!
He probably has a small one.
And the screen, too.
Well Paint only recently added jpg capability (used to be only bmp) so perhaps it's not fulliy configured yet. But I did it just now, and only got a 150kb file. Not like the old 3mb bmp files.....
If you don't have a separate app, the easiest way is to hit the "PrtScn" button, then open Paint, and click edit/paste.
Then just save the file in jpg (or jpeg) form, since that is likely the smallest size, so you can send it to Bob.
If I missed this please forgive me, but what is the status (management opinion) of having an IGNORE feature on IHUB? Seems like a no-brainer, but my needs are likely different than yours. Just wondering.
Thanks.
Guess you missed that part of my post where I said I was a charter member.
(Typed it with invisible pixels, that's why you didn't see it)
Perhaps a new board needs to be set up:
>>>>>>Down Memory Lane in Geekdom<<<<<<<<<<<<
or maybe
>>>Down Memory Lane with Bob and the Geeks<<<<<<<
Wasn't that a sixties group?
What's his name?
(sorry, came upon this and couldn't resist.. how sophmoric, huh? JM school of humor I guess)
Maybe the word got out that the jester was to be away for awhile?
Guess the TV show didn't work out, huh?
(And this got past Matt's spam filters??)
You said "I am not much of a liar when posting."
Does that mean that you are "somewhat" of a liar?
Glad to see this place hasn't changed much since last I was here. Someone should put together a thread of highlights from just this board.. it's such a hoot!!! First IHUB sucks, it doesn't deserve you, you don't want to be here anyway, you could care less about being in jail, etc. Now you're asking to be let out of jail. How much better can this get?
Perhaps a "Joemoney/WillyWizard" board, where you both are locked in by yourselves, and no one else is allowed to post on the board, just you two. You could just go at it, ad nauseum.....I bet Joe would love it, now that he is a critical thinker.
:')
Joe,
I wish you the best. I'll try not to judge YOU by your posting history. <g
Frankly, I'm more convinced than ever that you are a fictional character, (perhaps Matt or someone else, incognito) conjured up to bring in traffic. You are playing us like the proverbial fiddle. It IS entertaining, but you've been too successful, as I can't possibly keep up. There are just too many posts to read through.
But then again, I used to think MMARY was fictional, too. The jury is still out on that, in my mind. Wish I had more time to spend here. It's a hoot!!
Perhaps you should follow the flow more closely. I have no interest in bantering with, flaming, or otherwise wasting my free time with Joemoney or anyone else. And to be "worried' about those of us who choose to use IHUB differently than you is arrogant and condescending. (Perhaps that wasn't your intention). And, if you choose to be JM's therapist, have at it..and good luck. :)
I merely made an age-old crack that logically flowed from comments about why people use cars to boost their self-esteem (and not having a thing to do with JM). He lashed back out in such a ridiculous manner, that I chose to respond back. When his response was to attack my vocabulary, telling me he hated people like me, I responded appropriately, and that was that.
Please don't lump me in with those who wish to carry on childish tit-tor-tat exchanges with him. Incessantly criticizing him? You must be confusing me with someone else.
Best wishes.
You're ready to get out of jail, but you feel the need to tell people that you hate them?
It seems to me that all of this current behavior is the same behavior you had to promise to never again exhibit, in order to get out of jail a month ago.
And I'm sorry if my vocabulary isn't to your liking. It's the way I speak, and I dare say you really shouldn't discuss how people articulate. You are the last one that should be doing that, for goodness sake. Just because you may not understand something, it's unseemly to lash out and attack someone for speaking differently than you.
I do have an opinion, now that I think about it. I think that as long as you are allowed to continue to be the everpresent court jester here, IHUB will never have any credibility. I would be willing to sacrifice my enjoyment of your antics, in favor of you being shown the door. You really do have absolutely nothing to offer, aside from being made an object of ridicule by anyone with a modicum of common sense and intelligence.
If I didn't know better (and frankly I don't) I'd swear you were a made up character, posting such tripe just to increase traffic and pagehits.
Now go run and see that I've never posted about stocks...so you will have a response. Guilty as charged.
My goodness, how defensive you are. Dare I say that I may have hit upon a truism, in your case?
Joe, I wasn't even paying attention to who NW was posting to, when I made that comment. Since you're so successful and intelligent, surely you know the age-old supposition/tease/diss.... about men who "...drive cars that they think make them look impressive..." because they have small penises. Or does your lack of ever leaving the computer long enough to get out in the world, make you unaware of the colloquialisms that most of us instantly recognize? You must be loads of fun to be around.
Frankly, you aren't important enough for me to form any kind of judgement about, including thinking of you as the pejorative terms you quoted. You do a very good job of showing who and what you are about, with each and every single post you make. If I wasn't so ambivalent about you, I couldn't get such a kick out of watching you work. You bring big smiles and loud guffaws out of me. In fact, "you complete me."'
And of course, those with small schlongs.
This may not be a bug, but I bet it should be changed, unless I overlooked something:
There is no way to bookmark a board from the 'next ten' view. I read through a board using that view, and when I wanted to add it to my bookmarks, I had to go back to the first message or the board header box, before I found the link at the bottom to bookmark the board.
Did I miss something?
Nice pecs...
+++The IH window is not only updating, it's making itself the foreground window?++++++
Well, not except for that one instance, where I was on a page at SI, and all of a sudden I was brought back to an updated favorites page. This happened suddenly, with no action on my part. (as I said, all within one browser window.... but perhaps it was a one-time anomaly)
The other part of my post was a general opinion about the distraction of it. It doesn't grab the focus, but I use two monitors, and I often don't minimize the browser, while I move over to something else I'm working on. Then, every 30 seconds, my peripheral vision is attracted to (or is it the other way around) the flashing of the browser window as it updates the favorites page. I happen to find that distracting, perhaps others don't. I should note that the updating/flashing occurs whether there are new messages in my groups or not.
I expect there is nothing that can be done, short of me moving to another page off site, when I am done for the moment with IH, but I would hope it might be added later as an option I could turn on or off.
edit: It seems the spell checker doesn't like "IH" :)
edit 2: Wouldn't it be nice if the spell checker gave us its view of what the spell correction should be, with the ability to just click on it? Is that too "expensive"?
edit 3: Is it just me, or when I finish using the Preview function, is there no way to Submit the message? Unless I'm nuts, I only see the Edit or Cancel boxes, and I have to click on Edit Message one last time, to get back to the composition window, where I can click on Submit post...
Here's one I haven't seen mentioned:
I finished reading IH, and ended up on my favorites page..no unread messages in any groups.
I went to SI, and while reading a post over there, I was suddenly jolted back to my (now updating) favorites page at IH. I am using Netscape 4.78, and I had only the one browser window open.
I know I'm in the minority here, but I don't like the new auto-refreshing feature. If I'm done with IH, and I move to somewhere else on my screen (not within the browser) it is distracting to keep having the favorites page flash/update itself. I know I can just move to another page, but why should I have to??
What am I missing?? I don't follow any of this, except perhaps the Freudian(?) slip, where someone called him Rockhard, instead of Rockard...
Do you have any semblance of a life away from the computer?
Told ya!! As IF I would notice something different.
Edit.. Now I notice something.. This reply does not remove the number from my 'mailbox' totals. Does it not clear until the edit window passes? I went to my profile, and still couldn't get the counter to reset.
There is now a link below each message, where you can add a personmark (peoplemark is better) for the author of that message. It is not available in the 'next ten' panes.
What do I win?
(Watch, I wil find out it's been that way for a long time.)
Disregard...
Execs at Comcast probably heard you liked the manure disguised as donuts, that comes from KrispyCreme..
Did they take away the taste gene in the panhandle???
Something similiar also is happening. This (your) message to me shows as a new message in my INBOX, but after reading it (and all the new messages on this board, my INBOX still shows (1) new message.
I think I see the problem. Both of these issues arise when I have read the messages "within" a "NEXT TEN MESSAGES" screen, as opposed to the actual URL of the message. I guess that's why the history doesn't reflect me having read the message.
I assume that's a bug??
NM
I noticed what I think is a bug, but I can't be sure it is not by design. Here's the deal...
I have someone peoplemarked. I also have a board bookmarked. I enter IHUB, and I see the board has some new messages, which I then read. One of those new messages is from that person I have peoplemarked. Well, when I'm done reading the new messages in my bookmarked board, the peoplemark still shows that person as having a new message. I then must go to that person's profile, and actually click on the message, for the counter to reset. Why doesn't it know that I've already read that new message, when I read it within the board? Alternatively, why not have a "clear new message count" button, so if I know I've read those posts, I can reset the counter that way?
Edit:: Hey, a grub!! Way Cool!!
The post he made was despicable. That you haven't yet deleted it, or taken action against the poster is telling.

Came across the link again....
http://www.officialdarwinawards.com/uls/impala.html#loadedog
It's an old urban legend, passed around for years. The car always changes. Don't have the URL handy, but it's discussed on one of the Urban Legends sites.
Sorry....
Hi Matt,
Just curious.... what has been the average number of posts per day (recently) at IHUB? And of that number, how many are from unique posters (in other words, net of multiple posts by the same poster) ?
NM
P.S. You can even quote numbers for pre-9/11... I'm just wondering how far IHUB has come...
Was it an accident, or something medical??
I guess there must be, since I noticed that long AFTER you laid down you're edict, a poster who seems to delight in bragging about how he spends his life copying and storing pics of other peoples' posts (why, I can't imagine) posted a few times to and about the very people you forbade him to do so.
While the gossipmonger in me wishes I knew what that is all about, my guess is that I am far better off not knowing.
