No Cameras Allowed?
Q Television Network’s new series “Life’s a Drag” to feature The Chute in an
upcoming episode.
By Tim Toonen
Considering there is a sign that states there are no cameras allowed
as you walk into The Chute complex there have been a lot of lights,
camera, action happening in the Rainbow Room in the last few weeks.
A few weeks back there was a camera crew in, filming Victoria Parker,
a regular cast member at the Chute, for an upcoming documentary,
and then again last week The Q
Television Network had a camera
crew in filming for a new series called
“Life's a Drag.”
“Big”Gene Speas, the entertainment
director at The Chute, told CSFP that
he was given only a one week notice to
pull everything together for the television
cast and crew. Apparently he did a
great job.“Gene [Speas] was so helpful.
I must say, The Chute has the most
incredible cast. They were by far the
most professional of any we have dealt
with so far on this series,”Wenda
Watch, the hostess for the show, told
us.
The concept of the show is to find great Drag shows across the
United States. They are not filming in New York or in LA. Instead
they are traveling to smaller cities to find some of the fantastic talent
that most people may never have a chance to see.“It’s about capturing
performers who are doing it for the love of Drag, and performing. It’s
not only about becoming the next RuPaul or making it big like in the
larger cities,” Watch stated.
Before The Chute in Nashville the camera crew had already been to
LaBuzz outside of Atlanta, and Quest in Birmingham. When we
talked with Wenda Watch from the road
she was in route to St. Louis. The next
episodes were scheduled for Phoenix and
Tucson, AZ.
Speas also said that he was happy to find
that the crowd didn’t seem to mind having
the cameras floating around.“The customers
seemed to love the cameras. That would not
have been the case a few years back. Every
single customer signed a discloser form and
just enjoyed the show as they usually
would.…It’s nice to see that there is less of a
stigma for being in a ‘gay’ bar than there use
to be.”
“Life is a Drag” is scheduled to air at the
end of the month on Q Television Network.
While Q Television is available in over 100 cities across the U.S.A., the
network is not currently available in Nashville. To contact and request
for the network here in Nashville go to:

HOLLYWOOD ROCKED: 'GAY COWBOY' MOVIE BECOMES AN OSCAR FRONTRUNNER
Arriving with nudity and explicit gay sex scenes between two cowboys, UNIVERSAL/FOCUS FILMS's BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN has quietly become an award season frontrunner, interviews with Academy members reveal.
"It could very well be the last film standing at this year's Oscars," a top Hollywood producer not associated with the film explained from Hollywood.
"There was not a dry eye in the house at the screening at Telluride [Film Festival in Colorado]," says the producer, who asked not to be named out of respect for the cast and crew of the producer's own Oscar contender. "Watch it come out of the gate at the Golden Globes with super controversy."
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS critic Jack Mathews predicts the gay cowboy movie, which takes place in Wyoming, may be "too much for red-state audiences, but it gives the liberal-leaning Academy a great chance to stick its thumb in conservatives' eyes."
Director Ang Lee's movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger won the Golden Lion, the top prize at the Venice Film Festival earlier this fall.
But will a movie even Madonna calls "shocking" sit with the heartland?
Playwright and lifelong Wyomingite tells the STAR-TRIBUNE of Casper this week that she has never encountered a gay cowboy, and doesn't think it's right for Hollywood to portray Wyoming as a state with gay cowboys.
Her message to the writers of BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN: “Don't try and take what we had, which was wonderful -- the cowboys that settled the state and made it what it was -- don't ruin that image... There's nothing better than plain old cowboys and the plain old history without embellishing it to suit everyone."
Meanwhile, Michell Howard of the state's Travel and Tourism Division says her agency is already hearing a buzz that people in other countries are expressing interest in visiting Wyoming because of the film.
“It's gotten rave reviews from the international community,” she said. “I don't know if they're more tolerant or something, but they're viewing it as a great Western movie.”

Warner Bros. Fires Up to 300 Employees
Nov 02 6:40 PM US/Eastern
Email this story
BURBANK, Calif.
Warner Bros. Entertainment said Wednesday it has fired between 250 and 300 employees as a cost-cutting measure.
The cuts come during a record year for the studio. But Warner Bros., like other entertainment companies, is bracing for lower revenue in coming years as the growth of the DVD market continues to slow and the TV syndication market shrinks.
"We had to take some difficult measures to position the company for the future," Warner Bros. spokesman Scott Rowe said.
"We acknowledge that these decisions have affected people's livelihoods and to that end, we examined every aspect of our business in order to cut costs responsibly and to keep staff reductions to a minimum," he said.
All the cuts were at the studio's Burbank operations, where Warner Bros. employs 4,500 workers.
The cuts were across every division and at all levels, Rowe said.
Warner Bros. is a division of Time Warner Inc., the world's largest media company, which Wednesday reported an 80 percent increase in third-quarter earnings. Shares of Time Warner rose 33 cents, or 1.9 percent, to close at $17.90 Wednesday on the New York Stock Exchange, where they have traded in a 52-week range of $16.10 to $19.90.
The company is under pressure from investors to raise its slumping stock price and cut costs.

WNBA Star Sheryl Swoopes: I'm Gay
Wednesday, October 26, 2005
NEW YORK — Houston Comets (search) forward Sheryl Swoopes (search) is opening up about being a lesbian, telling a magazine that she's "tired of having to hide my feelings about the person I care about."
Swoopes, honored last month as the WNBA's Most Valuable Player, told ESPN The Magazine for a story on newsstands Wednesday that she didn't always know she was gay and fears that coming out could jeopardize her status as a role model.
"Do I think I was born this way? No," Swoopes said. "And that's probably confusing to some, because I know a lot of people believe that you are."
Swoopes, who was married and has an 8-year-old son, said her 1999 divorce "wasn't because I'm gay."
She said her reason for coming out now is merely because she wants to be honest.
"It's not something that I want to throw in people's faces. I'm just at a point in my life where I'm tired of having to pretend to be somebody I'm not," the 34-year-old Swoopes said. "I'm tired of having to hide my feelings about the person I care about. About the person I love."
A release from ESPN The Magazine about the story did not disclose the identity of Swoopes' partner.
A five-time All-Star and three-time Olympic gold medalist, Swoopes is the WNBA's only three-time MVP. She played for the Comets during their run of four championships from 1997-2000, but missed the 2001 season with a knee injury.
She said her biggest worry about her revelation is that people will be afraid to look up to her.
"I don't want that to happen," she said. "Being gay has nothing to do with the three gold medals or the three MVPs or the four championships I've won. I'm still the same person. I'm Sheryl."
Swoopes led the WNBA (search) in scoring last year, averaging 18.6 points. She also averaged 4.3 assists and 2.65 steals while making 85 percent of her free throws and playing a league-high 37.1 minutes a game.
She said it "irritates" her that no one talks about gays playing in men's sports, but that it's become an issue in the WNBA.
"Sexuality and gender don't change anyone's performance on the court," she said. "Women play just as hard as guys do. We're just as competitive.

I have known Frank since 1999 and I have to say he is one class act. Putting Q aside, Frank is one of the nicest human beings I have come to know. He is always there to help others while putting his needs aside. I will defend him until my dying day.
One nice story I heard about Frank is around Christmas time he takes 20 or more orphaned children and makes there Christmas dreams a reality.
I can go on and on.
The fact he had to defend that attack is very sad. I will say this publicly, "IF ANYONE EVER BRINGS THAT POSTERS POST TO THIS THREAD I WILL DELETE IT AS FAST AS IT GETS POSTED.

Q Television Premieres 'The Reichen Show’
10.11.05
By Ross von Metzke
(Burbank, CA) – When Reichen Lehmkuhl took home the million dollar grand prize for winning The Amazing Race: Season Four with then partner Chip Arndt, he became almost as famous for his model good looks as he did the historical win.
Now, two years later, Lehmkhul is looking to make history again with the debut of The Reichen Show, an interactive talk format series from the Q Television Network premiering today.
The weekly talk show is hosted by Lehmkuhl, who will drop the reality façade and use his wide ranging experience as a captain in the Air Force, an AP Physics teacher and an International Gay Icon to discuss issues of relevance to today’s gay community. The one-hour show invites the LGBT community to speak openly about surviving in today’s world, using both a live Internet chat room and the ability to call in and speak directly with Lehmkhul and his co-hosts.
Expert guests and co-hosts, including medical professionals and celebrities, will share experience, strength and hope, as well as advice on how to deal with various issues that affect the LGBT community and its family and friends.
“I want to be part of a show that offers hope, strength and compassion to those dealing with the myriad of issues our community faces in a comforting, smart and compassionate environment,” Lehmkhul said in a statement. The show’s debut coincides with National Coming Out Day, the yearly event that recognizes what, for many, can be one of the scariest and most life changing moments in someone’s life. The premiere episode seeks to address these issues and many more related to the subject of coming out.
Lemukhul is currently steaming up things on E! Television’s hit series Kill Reality, a reality show spoof staring some of TV’s favorite castoffs and winners of the past several years. Lemukhul has also managed to successfully parlay his win into an acting career, with appearances on The Young & the Restless, Drew Carey and the forthcoming film The Mostly Unfabulous Social Life of Ethan Green under his belt.
Earlier this year, Lemukhul filed a discrimination suit against a California based printer who refused to continue print runs of the reality star’s posters after discovering he is gay. Los Angeles based civil rights activists rallied around Lemukhul at a historic press conference to discuss the event at the popular West Hollywood hotspot The Abbey.

PALM SPRINGS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 29, 2005--
Strengthening its presence throughout North America, Q Television Network (Pink Sheets: QBID) has announced its launch into two new Time Warner Cable divisions. The gay and lesbian community's premiere 24/7 television network will be available to viewers in Rochester and Syracuse, New York, beginning Saturday October 1, 2005. This announcement marks QTN's continued expansion throughout Time Warner Cable.
For Time Warner Cable customers in Rochester, QTN will be offered as an a la carte channel 454, available 24 hours per day, seven days per week with a complementary video on demand (VOD) option on channel 453 for all QTN subscribers. In Syracuse, Time Warner Cable customers can access QTN as a 24/7 premium offering on channel 380 and as VOD on channel 381.
"We are delighted that Time Warner Cable has chosen to add QTN to its channel lineups in Rochester and Syracuse," said Carol Hinnant, Vice President, Affiliate Sales & Marketing. "Recognizing the diversity that exists in this market with its truly unprecedented roster of creative, entertaining and high-energy live programs, Q Television meets the needs of the gay and lesbian community," said Time Warner Rochester Division President Jeff Hirsch. "We look forward to a long and successful relationship."
Added Time Warner Vice President for Public Affairs Jeff Unaitis, "We have been looking for just the right blend of news and entertainment to satisfy our growing contingency of gay and lesbian viewers, who have been actively requesting such a network, and QTN offers an exciting programming package that more than answers that call."
Q Television currently offers its customers five hours of live programming daily, kicking off its morning fare with the new hit show "Brunch," which stars Honey Labrador and Scott Withers. The day ends with QTN's signature series "On Q Live," a fun-filled adventure of news, guests, sports and entertainment. QTN also offers its customers original programs such as "Q on the Move"--the first-ever travel show for the GLBT community--and "Flesh and Threads," a dance show that brings fashion and the gay beat to the dance floor.

School Expels Girl for Having Gay Parents
Sep 23 7:05 AM US/Eastern
ONTARIO, Calif.
A 14-year-old student was expelled from a Christian school because her parents are lesbians, the school's superintendent said in a letter.
Shay Clark was expelled from Ontario Christian School on Thursday.
"Your family does not meet the policies of admission," Superintendent Leonard Stob wrote to Tina Clark, the girl's biological mother.
Stob wrote that school policy requires that at least one parent may not engage in practices "immoral or inconsistent with a positive Christian life style, such as cohabitating without marriage or in a homosexual relationship," The Los Angeles Times reported in Friday's edition.
Stob could not be reached for comment by the newspaper. Shay and her parents said they won't fight the ruling.
School administrators learned of the parents' relationship this week after Shay was reprimanded for talking to the crowd during a football game, Tina Clark said.
Clark and her partner have been together 22 years and have two other daughters, ages 9 and 19.

Triangle Multi-Media Assumes Operational Control of Network Teleports, Inc.; First Goal is Restoring the New Orleans-Based Satellite Telecommunications Company to Aid in Ongoing Disaster Relief

PALM SPRINGS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 9, 2005--
Triangle Multi-Media Limited, Inc., the parent company of Q Television Network (OTCBB Other: QBID), announced today that it has assumed control of Network Teleports, Inc. (NTI), a national satellite telecommunications company based in New Orleans. In taking command of the facilities, Triangle's first objective is to restore operations so that scores of emergency crews will be able to use its services during the city's ongoing disaster relief.
"During this critical time, it was essential that we find a partner with the right combination of vision and expertise to get NTI up and running again," said an executive officer of NTI. "Triangle Multi-Media's vast broadcasting background and previous disaster management experience made them the logical choice. Triangle's experienced crew is at the site, and we are pleased to report that we are already transporting bars and tones, with 80% functionality."
"One of the essentials in a disaster relief effort is communications," said Frank Olsen, President, CEO and Founder of Triangle Multi-Media and its subsidiary, Q Television Network. "We will provide uplink services at no cost to emergency crews that need it. The satellite services will also be available to networks and other businesses that need uplink capabilities."
With full faith in the future revitalization of New Orleans as a thriving metropolis, Triangle Multi-Media looks forward to continuing its plans to ultimately purchase NTI.
NTI's transmission facilities include satellite antennas, fiber optic and microwave systems, studios, and editing and playback facilities for both audio and video. Its control center in New Orleans houses one of the first digital hubs for National Public Radio. NTI also has a team of technicians in every state in the U.S. who install and maintain satellite systems. NTI is linked via fiber optic lines to every major sports stadium and most large convention centers and hotels in the lower 48 states. In response to the economic needs of the 21st century, NTI has established itself as a "Virtual Teleport," integrating facilities to give customers rapid, convenient, reliable access to advanced communications.

In the News: Britney Spears, Martha Stewart and More!
Thursday, September 08, 2005
Britney Spears and Kevin Federline
Today's column was written by Matt Webb Mitovich.
BIGAMY FOR BRITNEY?: British TV personality Richard Bacon claims that he jokingly — yet legally — wed Britney Spears at the conclusion of a 2002 interview he did for the U.K.'s Channel 4, which would make the pregnant pop tart a bigamist. (A bodyguard allegedly ripped up the official certificate, which both Bacon and Spears had signed before a vicar.) A rep for Spears refutes the story, saying, "Sorry to break Richard's heart, but Britney Spears is legally married to Kevin Federline" — as tremendously sad as that still may seem.
NEPOTISM: IT'S A GOOD THING: Martha Stewart has announced who will be filling the roles of trusty sidekicks Carolyn and George on her version of The Apprentice. The domestic doyenne's daughter, Alexis, a consultant with Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, and Charles Koppelman, chairman of the board for MSLO, will serve as her "eyes and ears" during each week's task, join her in the boardroom conference room to advise on which contestant should go and be there to jimmy open that damn ankle bracelet whenever it starts to chafe.
RENEW ME: FX has OK'ed a third season of the firefighter drama Rescue Me, starring Denis Leary. The current season flames out on Sept. 13; the 13 new episodes will begin unspooling in the second quarter of 2006.
LOST SCOOP!: You read it here first, folks: Soap-grad Cynthia Watros is joining the cast of Lost this season as Libby, a mysterious character who may or may not have been in the tail section of Oceanic Flight 815 when it crashed last fall. Watros, known to daytime audiences for her Emmy-winning stint as crazy Annie on Guiding Light, followed up her acclaimed suds gig with roles on Titus and The Drew Carey Show.
NEWTON-JOHN'S BEAU STILL NO-SHOW: While Aussie songstress Olivia Newton-John clings to the hope that her longtime beau, Patrick Kim McDermott — who has been missing since June 30, when he vanished during an overnight fishing trip in California — is alive, authorities are looking into the possibility that the photographer staged his disappearance/apparent death. "Is there any suggestion he may have run away as opposed to have gone overboard? That's something we're still looking at," says a Coast Guard investigator.
TALE OF THE COMET: More than 20 years after the sci-fi comedy Night of the Comet had its day, the cult classic is getting a sequel. Leading lady Kelli "Daddy would've gotten us Uzis" Maroney and writer-director Thom Eberhardt (Parker Lewis Can't Lose) are producing the follow-up, in which we'll learn how the original's boy-crazy heroines (Maroney and Catherine Mary Stewart of Weekend at Bernie's) fared at repopulating the world with lucky, lucky Robert Beltran (Star Trek: Voyager).
SEAN HAYES GOES FOR BROKEN: Will & Grace's Sean Hayes and his producing partner, Todd Milliner, whose Situation: Comedy is currently living out its final days on Bravo, are developing a semiscripted local-news parody for TBS. Broken News will feature actors improvising a newscast for a fictional small town. Lawyers for my mom's quaint hometown of Chillicothe, Ohio, stand poised to sue.
JM J. BULLOCK, CALL YOUR PUBLICIST: Q Television Network, which targets the gay and lesbian community, has announced the launch of QTN Worldcast, a nightly program that will offer "the latest queer news around the globe." And if there's no queer news, they'll lift something obnoxious from Rosie O'Donnell's blog.
EMMYS UPDATE: Matthew Fox, Debra Messing, William Petersen, Quentin Tarantino and Mischa Barton have been added to the list of presenters at the 57th annual Emmy Awards, to be held Sept. 18. I have to think (hope?) that this will be the only time Quentin and Mischa are ever mentioned in the same sentence.
REEL NEWS: Jodie Foster is in talks to play a woman recovering from a brutal attack in the urban suspense thriller The Brave One.... Twentieth Century Fox is developing a film based on The Bachelorette Party, a novel from Legally Blonde scribe Karen McCullah Litz, as a potential starring vehicle for Nicole Kidman.... Fox and Universal have sealed their deal to make a feature film based on the videogame Halo, slated for a summer 2007 release that will be attended by lots and lots of guys with sore thumbs.
