Regarding the aftermarket question, Identity has chosen a strategy of pre-loading the product on the vehicle at the dealership. Although it is an aftermarket option, it is included in the sticker price (as an option) and the salesmen can assure the potential buyer that "you get this near flawless theft prevention system and it is included in the sticker price that you see here." With 16 million new cars sold per year, I think that this is a great strategy, given the limited workforce that Identity has (they are backlogged). It also assures that the dealer can install properly and service if/when necessary.
I asked Dan to give me an example of another product that is an option but is preloaded on new cars like the Identity product. He said that the biometric ID systems are also pre-loaed (fingerprint ID's).
My take on it is that this is a relatively new strategy and that Identity is on the forefront of this type of strategy. Clearly, it seems to be working.
