30/6 India: cell phones are becoming our gateway to the internet
Category: Mobile Market By editor at 02:20
Dina writes some interesting stuff about India in Cultural Insights India - Technology Perspectives. Excerpts:
Technology adoption doesn't always follow trends in the West
India is leapfrogging the PC stage - cell phones are becoming our gateway to the internet
From no cameras to cam phones - digital cameras are being squeezed out
4.5 million cell phones are added every month, 95 million subscribers in March 2006, 200 million projected in 2010; landlines a little over 50 million
Upgrading is not a natural habit - the average consumer is not tech savvy, and technology products are usually used until they break. (Exception being cell phones, esp.among youngsters as they can be a status symbol).
Trend towards 'all-in-one' gadgets - e.g. cell phone + camera + mp3 player. PCs play multiple roles, for instance as the household DVD player, communication medium, gaming system, etc.

25/6 LG's chocolate phone: A pop culture product with good looks, but which doesn't deliver on the content side
Category: Camera Phones By editor at 00:23
After the success of the RAZR, there seems to be another phone which people get crazy about: LG's Chocolate Phone KG 800.
JFRobinson comes with some very fruitful thoughts regarding content services which such an iconic phone should deliver:
Some are claiming the LG Chocolate a success of form over function, LG certainly should be congratulated for having a hit like this, I was very impressed by the adventurous spirit of their overall design at GSM world in Barcelona. But there has been some brutal online trashing of the phones UI and functionality. But here is the point I want to make is this: if a slick look and red glowing buttons will sell a million (or two or three or ten) five-hundred dollar handsets, what would a cool addictive content service do that was available ONLY for that phone? Why wasn't there an awesome download video service or other exclusive interactive and addictive content service? I'm not talking about putting movie trailers or repurposing TV shows, I'm talking about a mobile-centric, ORIGINAL service that is AS CREATIVE AS THE DESIGN OF THE PHONE ITSELF. Remember, this is a Pop Culture product, and I think the day has come to see the complete product as one thing - so what the phone can DO for the customer is just as cool as it LOOKS.

24/6 The gap between Japan and Europe
Category: Mobile Market By editor at 12:43
In Tomorrow's mobile services today Ericsson’s Atsuhiko Ohkita, senior market analyst in Tokyo says:
The difference between high-end users in Japan and Europe is perhaps less than a year. But on average, there is a gap of about two to three years. Low-end European users still only use voice and SMS, and don’t want to try web access.”
It's easy why: no easy access, scarcity of content and price. Japan has neither of these problems.
How can we solve the problem:
Easy access = QR Codes
Scarcity of Content = let the creativity of the edges flourish, e.g. use mobile enabled weblogs
Price = Telecom data prices should come down quickly, as I don't see any other way of long term survival for the telecoms. Voice and SMS are already declining.

Jabberwocky
While today’s mobile communication tools readily connect us to friends and known acquaintances, we lack mobile devices to explore and play with our subtle, yet important, connections to strangers and the unknown – especially the Familiar Strangers whom we regularly encounter.
Now your mobile phone can expand your sense of involvement, belonging, and identity across your daily urban landscape in dramatically new ways.
From info page:
The principle metaphors of Jabberwockies are “digital scents” and “digital tagging”. As individuals traverse an urban landscape, they simply infuse their path with a unique and detectable digital redolence. Similarly, fixed places/objects can also emit unique “scents” once they are “digitally tagged” with small wireless tags called iMotes.
Why not simply use QR Codes;)

21/6 3G For All: GSMA's Emerging Market Handset Programme
Category: Mobile Market By editor at 02:10
GSMA To Accelerate Development Of Mass-market 3G Handsets Under "3G For All" Programme (June 13, 2006)
"Our 3G handset initiative will allow far more people to take advantage of the video clips, mobile music, Internet access, and many other multimedia services now enjoyed by more affluent users in the developed world," says Rob Conway, CEO of the GSMA. "Our Emerging Market Handset programme is a compelling demonstration of how economies of scale can be brought to bear to accelerate falls in the cost of manufacturing mobile phones."
The GSMA's Emerging Market Handset (EMH) programme, which has hit its goal to reduce the wholesale price of entry-level handsets to less than $30, has catalysed the creation of a new segment of ultra-low cost phones. The availability of such low cost handsets has enabled many millions of people in over 56 countries to begin using telecommunications for the first time.

Produce Traceability Demo Center a Hit at United Fresh
Matthew Enis April 23rd, 2009
As I mentioned in an earlier post, the Produce Traceability Demo Center was one of the coolest features of this year’s United FreshMarketplace / FreshTech expo. The idea for the new center was hatched during a United Fresh roundtable event in January. Basically, 13 different traceability solutions providers all hosted tabletop displays in an area near the back of the show floor, offering attendees a location to browse and ask questions about issues including industry’s Produce Traceability Initiative.
As many of our subscribers know, Michael Garry is SN’s resident tech expert, and has been covering many of the more technical aspects of PTI, so at the risk of sounding out of touch, I’ll just say that I am amazed at how quickly the supplier community has responded to the initiative, developing solutions that work not only at the case level, but at the item level as well.
If you’ve attended any seminars on traceability or foodborne illness outbreaks during the past three or four years, you’re probably familiar with that ubiquitous slide where a person in a Japanese supermarket is using his or her cell phone to snap a picture of a 3d bar-code on a product. These bar-codes allow customers to view detailed product information on their phones, such as farm of origin and other content.
Well, that technology is finally here, as a Smartphone app produced by HarvestMark, the fresh food traceability arm of YottaMark. The 3-d barcode is part of their PTI compliant labels, which also feature regular barcodes for scanning Global Trade Identification Numbers and other information through the supply chain. Elliot Grant, chief marketing officer for YottaMark, gave me a brief demo using a T-Mobile G1 phone, and the gee whiz aspect was pretty tangible. Snap the photo of the barcode on a clamshell container, and in 5 seconds, you’re looking at information about where the product was grown, who the farmer was, and whether or not the product was involved in a recall–as much traceback and marketing information as the grower wishes to display to shoppers. The new app is a finalist in the Food Safety portion of United’s first New Product Award competition. more
Or.........we would simply bog things down so that it was impossible to get any forward movement at all.
I feel for you as I have the same frustrations. I don't see that baragging the office with phone calls will help though.
Our options are still the same as they have always been.......hang in there or sell. I'll hang for now.

Cool Blog!! And you made one of the top blogs in Winnipeg. You'll have to come up here for a celebration and the key to the city. OK, so I can't get you that but I will promise a cold beer and a hot steak. How's that? LOL

I'm confident you are right. Only time will tell but we certainly have a lot of momentum going here and I don't think it all happened by chance. I have a feeling there is much more for NEOM to tell the world very soon.

When you do a PR you don't just fax it to the local radio station. You pay PR companies to publish your info across the world to different mediums, brokerage firms, industry publications, etc.
Getting the word out properly is often a company's toughest thing to accomplish really.
OTT
hahaha...........as funny as that is. We also need to remember that without them we may not be here at all. I can see both sides of the conversation and one day I"m sure the share price will do fantastic and we won't need them at that time but untill then........we need them more than they need us.

Awesome post.........thanks for taking time out of your schedule for the rest of us. Much appreciated.
OTT
Only time will tell however.....I don't believe that they are doing anything other than putting the final pins in place for explosive growth. What ever the reason it is justified I'm sure. The market is growing exponentially all around us and I don't think they want to miss out on this right after our patents have been proven. Lets all keep a cool head. Take a hot bath and a cold beer. I see this as just the beginning. I have no idea how big this will go but I can imagine.
Just my two cents,

Great Read, everyone should take note of this one.

I wouldn't say "NO ONE" is buying. LOL Some of us are grabbing a few here and a few there. I just picked up another 220,000 shares 5 min ago. We'll see where we go from here. Only time will tell if it was the right move. ;)

Thanks JP,

Nice......well said,

Well that answers my question too. LOL They don't have anything of their own to bring to the table.
It looks like it's only a matter of time now. 6 years with ups and a lot of downs but the wait is finally paying off.

JP, would there be any benefit to NEOM if scanby comes to the table to play nice now or are we way past that point and can just say too bad you missed the boat to them??
OTT
Very nice le-bon,
This is getting very exciting!!

Love your optimism.....I feel it too. I'm still going to watch this closely as last time I was maybe a little too optimistic and stayed on the train all the way to the bottom. Granted....it's not a loss because I did not sell those shares but it has tied up that money for over 6 years now. I look forward to new highs in the months to come.

I agree and I learned the hard way by holding my shares all the way down after going all the way up last time. This time I have a predetermined point at which I will sell to get my original position out. The rest I plan to hold for a very long time. I can see this being the next Qualcomm or Google and plan on being here for the long haul.
OTT
Hang in there Red,
Now that our patents have been proven we have a lot more going for us than ever before. I've been here that long too and have many days when I wondered "what have I done" but what always kept me going was the fact that we have the patents. Now they are proven. I know it doesn't fill the hole where your money went today but with time it may.
OTT
It's funny JP, I can still remember the last time we had this much excitement on the board. I had 66,000 shares and wanted a hundred thousand but couldn't afford it. hahaha That was at 6 cents. Now we're almost back there and I'm at a considerably higher share count. LOL But I'm still kicking myself for not getting more than I did at .002. LOL
Oh well.......
OTT
Come on.......someone buy so I can be green. hahaha
I was green for a brief moment this morning......Count me in at .038 JP
