I've reread this several times. I just need to comment...
We're talking more than just phone numbers that never answer, or the $50 million joint venture partner that may not exist, or even the crooked promoter and the listing on the American Stock Exchange.
Pretty strong accusations right out of the gate.
I've called Globetel a couple times before and they answered the phone right away.
I also looked into Apogeo, the joint venture partner. They are on the Sunbiz site but they do seem a little weak as a company. They were only formed this spring. Some more digging here would be helpful.
Crooked promoter - explained further down.
Beyond all that we're talking about a company that increased its stock price by nearly 500 percent earlier this year by launching itself into a business, 65,000 feet over the snake-infested jungles of Colombia, that looks to be based, both literally and figuratively, on the ultimate marketing tool of Wall Street itself: actual hot air.
What! 500%, now I am upset, was I asleep when this happened or did Mr. Byron not realize there was a RS?
I base GTE on the phone cards, telephony, strat, etc., but no mention here
The company in question, which goes by the name of Globetel Communications Inc., is only one of many such in-your-face promotions that have lately sprung to life before the glassy-eyed stares of the regulators.
In your face!!! We are dying out here for news. I wish it was in my face!
IT'S pretty much the same story with Globe tel Communications, Inc., which has been kicking around Wall Street under one name or another for nearly the whole of the last quarter-century.
2 top executives quit?!? I don't think so. But I am surprised, 25yrs? Is that correct?
Beginning as a Nevada homebuilder, the company switched thereafter to the beckoning opportunities of the shock absorber business, followed by a foray into syphilis detection test kits. After that came the computer business, and finally, the "voice over the Internet" telecommunications business, which the company operated out of a 600-square-foot office in Hickory Hill, N.C., under the name of American Diversified Group Inc.
At the start of 2000, the company merged with a Miami-based outfit called Global Transmedia Communications Corp. and changed its name to Globetel Communications.
Yet it wasn't until the combined companies hooked up with another telecom outfit, called Sanswire Technologies Inc., in early 2004 that Globetel's stock price at last began to gain some lift.
Ya, so.
That's because Sanswire had a hot story and was already shopping it around using the services of a South Florida firm of stock promoters known as Wall Street Capital Funding.
By acquiring it in April of last year for what looks to have been no more than $3 million worth of stock= smart move, Globetel turned Sanswire's Big New Opportunity into its own — namely, a plan for bouncing telephone calls off a specially created network of geosynchronous relay stations 12 miles above the surface of the earth, where the stratosphere meets outer space.
Sound cutting edge? In fact, it gets even better because these relay stations weren't going to be plain old humdrum satellites at all, but something far more intriguing. So, are you ready for — blimps?
That's right, folks, instead of satellites, Globetel's infrastructure is going to be assembled out of blimps — the same things you see floating over used car lots on summer Sundays, bearing messages on the sides like, "Blowout Special" and " '98 Dakota — Klean and Mean."
(Globetel press releases say not to call them blimps because they're rigid-framed, 21st century aircraft. But the company has a picture of one on its Web site, and frankly, it looks like a blimp to me.) I do agree with this. The website needs to get up to speed. I have said this before. If this is a 'company for the future' get a fancier web site. Use the actual pictures that are already there instead of the mock image. I really like the one 'tethered, weighted and floating'.
Anyway, since bold new thinking is best conveyed with bold new words, Globetel is using its own trademarked name for its (don't call 'em) blimps in space: stratellites — the first of which is set to float heavenward by year's end, reaching a sub-orbital, stationary position 65,000 feet above the earth where it will soon be joined by four others.
THERE's just one thing: That pre-determined, sub-orbital position at the doorway to outer space turns out to be 12 miles above the jungles of Colombia, which is not yet what you'd call a booming market for voice-over-the-internet telecommunications services.
(On the other hand, high above the jungles of Colombia is one place where you could say you've got 500 of the things in orbit, and who is going to say otherwise?)
Not even worth much of a reply. 500? We would be out of business
We wanted to ask a company spokesman why a squadron of (don't call 'em) blimps over Colombia promised to become anything more than the high concept for a "Seinfeld" routine, but couldn't get further than a voice recording for the PR person, which said "high call volume" meant not to expect a return call anytime soon.
Squadron? I don't even think it was 3?
Next we came upon a press release announcing plans by a Florida company called Apogeo Enterprises Corp. to invest $50 million in Globetel's not-blimps project, and tried to call them up, too, since anyone planning to invest $50 million in something must surely know what he's doing.
Unfortunately, it proved impossible to locate a business by that name in Florida or anywhere else.
Not true, they are listed. They may of been created for this venture, who knows, but they exist on sunbiz.com
Another possible source of information might have been a man named Paul Taboada, who issued a large number of press releases for the company during 2002 when it was still known as American Diversified Group Inc.
A search of SEC filings revealed that Taboada is now a private investor and consultant to Globetel, and has already invested $500,000 in the company, which is apparently being used as tide-me-over money until that big $50 million rolls in and construction of the not-blimps gets going in earnest.
Unfortunately, Taboada didn't turn out to have the credentials for which one might have hoped.
During the period when he was writing press releases for American Diversified Group, Taboada was working as Director of Corporate Finance for the firm of Hornblower & Weeks.
In that capacity, Taboada issued a research report for American Diversified that turned out to be so over-hyped and distorted in its thumbs-up analysis of the company's prospects that the National Association of Securities Dealers wound up suspending not just Taboada but the entire firm of Hornblower & Weeks from issuing any reports about any companies for six months.
Now he's working for American Diversified's renamed successor from the inside and apparently has half a million dollars on the line, so who could possibly trust a word he'd have to say about anything regarding Globetel?
Paul, I'd be calling a really good expensive lawyer if I were you if these statements are at all false. This reads like a proverbial lynching. Bu I also think that some correspondence or article etc, from Globetel to support Paul or dispute these claims is deserving of us investors.
In addition, I do believe it is our responsibility to do our DD but I also believe it is GlobeTel's responsibility to rebute these claims NOT with just the PR released today but at the shareholders meeting and the web site.
How about a buy out?
I am not sure how to say this without offending anyone but it is very time consuming to read reply's to these 'bashers'.
Can we all agree to not respond? They don't seem to understand that some of us here are prepared to lose our money or some of it. That is the risk. Risk and reward, they are related. We are not children here. I stand to lose alot of money (alot to me)and will not be happy about it. But why would I want someone from the internet to 'save me' from a stock by just posting 'don't buy'? I would like to hear from the 'naysayers' if they had some hard facts about a company and their 'crooked' ways. Post that, with time, dates, contacts etc. Then YOU would be helping me/us. But to just ramble in a post is a waste of my time and therefore my money so I say NO to bashers, naysayers, negs, downers etc.
I JUST WANT to read THE FACTS.
Cardinal,
That guy "N*****3" is just a paid basher. Don't even reply to him. He probably gets paid for reply's. Just ignore him or even set your profile to ignore messages from him.
I've done some investigating on this guy Chris Byron. He has been a business reporter for some time. (40+yrs?)
He has at least two books out. One about the rise and fall of Martha Stewart and another about CEO's gone wild.
I doubt he gets fired - in fact the more people respond to the NYP the more accolades he will probably receive.
I sent an email to the NYTimes. I figured if they were a better option. The more attention the NYP gets the happier they are. I think it is up to the investors and especially GlobeTel to stand up and be heard. Personnally I want to hear from GlobeTel, Huff, Rocky, Techbear etc. They've been helping and guiding for some time now and I think we need more.
This really could be a blessing in disguise if done properly, otherwise it will stamp us out if we just sit back and wait.
Can someone explain why Mr. Byron would pick GlobeTel to...
"However, this reporter was more concerned about fabrication to sell a story versus solid business
reporting"
I am not second guessing Globetel here, I am just confused why someone would target them with so many other story's and topics easier to choose for the lowly NYPost.
I say we use this to our advantage. Anyone know any reporters out there? Let's beat this drum and halt trading tomorrow for too many buyers! This is an outrage to stockholders. Let's seize the moment to let people know about Globetel and the strat. Create more buzz and potential investors. It's all supply and demand right.
Here are emails for the New York Times letters to editors...
executive-editor@nytimes.com
managing-editor@nytimes.com
Other ideas?
Oh you bet an unbalance of sell orders! Considered it myself. All very dirty pool going on IMO. Does the NYPost article hold water? OR is GTE on the brink of something and some may want to sabotage? Is this a ploy that drives the
values down for someone to pick up more shares? A ploy to run them out?? All very, very suspicious.
Rocky? Rocky? Rocky? No words of insight or recommendations?
Any truth to the NYPost? If not, is legal action going to happen?
Ak bod ding git herm du fonm.
kcid a era uoy.
Oh I would love to see this thing under a penny. I'm in for the long long haul. I love this stock. Where others will fail this will shine. Can't wait, can't wait can't wait. I want to buy some now but hmm, I should wait now.
I hope this is an appropriate question for this board.
On the Level II quote from Ameritrade what is
Size = 1 Exch = PACX Bid = .01
It is gone now, but I am curious. Was it an anomoly?
Niz, go away. Nobody here but us crickets.
Go away please. If your out of the stock please go. The bashing is uncool.
Niz,
I am truly sorry for your loss. Please accept my condolences.
It must be hard to wake up and start your day in so much pain.
I've lost also, and am too am in pain.
But I know from many yrs of counsel, that we have options in life. We can choose to take a path that leads us to happiness, not sorrow or grief or bitterness.
Please choose this path else I am forced to block all msgs from you on this board.
MV
Is there anyone with information about the company and what they are up to out there?
Niz,
Are you just a basher? The reverse was announced a long time ago. You know what happens to these penny stocks after a reverse. Do your DD. Let's start reporting/discussing this company instead of complaining or bashing please.
Great board all!
Something struck me after reading the Coleman interview. Proving that the Strat can fly and maintain itself 13miles up is crucial to GlobeTel and the project, and I would assume the sooner that happens the better as investors and VC etc. would jump in. Why, then couldn't they ship the S1 down to Mexico or somewhere else where the regulations may not be a stringent as the FAA to do a launch. Am I naive here? I only say Mexico because it is within driving distance. We know that the Strat can be assembled in short time as we recently have seen. Eventually they would have to deal with the FAA but if it was proven technology somewhere else then I am sure the lobbying would be more intense and powerful.
Just wondering why the focus is on US airspace only. TIA
Thanks for all the hard work Rock, and for putting up with so much!
Can anyone provide a comparision or where/how to, between Tiger Telematics while it was a penny stock (which was up until Aug 2004 - which then did a R/S) and GTel? I would be curious to see if the trends have been the same and thereby get some insight going forward after the AMEX listing for GTel.
Or maybe I am totally off track?
lots of volume today, hang tight.
Just bought 200000 shares. Go QBid!
Hello all, been away from the board for a week or so.
Been weeding thru alot of posts. Just wanted to say
that the pictures of S1 floating in the hanger are incredible!
Curious why all the posts of the reverse news (which to me was no surprise, and I am shocked that it was a surprise to so many of you! It was inevitable and logical.)
BUT really the news here is the pictures! For all of those bashers back at the unveiling... can you still deny that this is a hoax? The hanger, the covered ship (which looks awesome), floating etc etc etc. Wow! All of this should tell us that this company is going forward as promised. Good luck to all and good luck to gtel.
BTW - I noticed the dedication to Bob's son, Chris; I am sorry to hear about his son and am curious to learn what happened.
TheBull2
Sorry, did not mean to insult anyone. Was kidding (cause there is always remarks re: posts) hence the suggestions on how they could clear it up.
Cheers - go long.
Oh my God how many posts do I have to read about getting this video link to work for some of you?????
The link is ....
http://www.exn.ca/video/?video=exn20050425-blimp.asx
It works fine with MS Explorer 6.0.2.x.x.x.x
It uses a java so make sure you have java beans or whatever enabled.
Can we move on now? ;>)
Grapes,
Hopefully they will upgrade. I would like to see the same layout and color scheme on both sites so they send the msg that the are connected and not independant companies partnering up. I know that DD is the buzz word here but
'most' people, who can and will be investors, don't do alot of DD when just investigating.
Hopefully the site will be back up soon.
BTW - did you check out the stats on www.alexa.com the % of hits in the last month is up 300% I believe.
Grapes,
I respect what you say but I also have a different philosophy. If your selling stuff off the web that is one thing, but if your web site and presence is really to introduce (you only get one chance to make a really good first impression) and educate about your organization then it need not alot of flash (no pun but if your a prophead you can take it with a grain of salt) but some status. IMO most good looking business sites have a lot of white in the back ground, good photo images not graphics and short concise content.
Take a look at this site... http://www.newcenturyenergy.com
clean, business like. Not that fancy but grabs you in.
They probably paid $1000.00ish for it.
Or http://www.dps.co.nz/ http://www.srpcs.com/
These are just a couple examples without alot of flash or spinning moving things on the page but they still talk to me and give me something.
I really think like you do that both sanswire and globetel websites need an overhaul for better potential investor relations as the first point of contact and as more and more people find out about them. Thanks for letting me spew.
Kevin,
I mean yes I agree, it might not be a bummer if they were updating it. I do however get frustrated as it is part of my daily bailiwick.
Huh? No excuse...
Most hits come at 6:00am - 10:00am when people wake up, read the paper, get to work... IT should update over the weekend and in the middle of the night.
As mentioned, these companies (GlobeTel & Sanswire) are communication companies, these websites should be premier and IMHO they are not. They should look slick, with crisp clean graphics; change the content often, have virtual tours that explain the products (i.e. I wasn't really clear about the Magic program until I listened to Huff on the wallSt interview) show diagrams etc.
What I see is the same thing I saw months and months ago except with some recently updated images and photos and press release links.
Can ping Globetel fine but not sanswire. A real bummer since the Discovery thing came out in Canada last night.
I just called GlobeTel and told the receptionist who said they would relay to the IT folks.
It is indeed.
It looks like it may of not been renewed in time as the last update was last nite at 8:00pm and these registry sites are notoriously slow and some especially tight since 9/11.
Hopefully this isn't the case as so much world wide press lately and I wished they had updated both websites before the public viewing as more and more hits come it. Both GTEL and Sansware sites are cobwebs IMO.
With any luck the site went down because of hits but we'll see.
For 'hits' see
http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?&range=3m&size=medium&compare_sites=&a...
there defintely was a spike before going down hill.

I don't think "Matt" did his research very well.
This... "The numbers. If you take a look at the company's income statement, you'll see that maybe this isn't the greatest invention ever. This is a company that not only has never earned a dime, but loses more and more every quarter. Surely if this was such a brilliant idea, the company would be able to earn even a small profit"
sounds like he may of been talking about Sanswire not Globetel.
Any thoughts...
With regard to the Rich Duprey MF article...What a slick way to pump MF 'The Hidden Gem' series.
"Companies like GlobeTel are too small, untested, and speculative to be considered as investment possibilities in Hidden Gems, the Motley Fool's small-cap newsletter. Yet it was on the newsletter's dedicated discussion boards that the idea was first broached, and where other, more investment-worthy companies are discussed, analyzed, and dissected every day."
pshaw I say. A company like Gtel may not be where to put all of your eggs, or your retirement stash right now, but to insinuate that is it not worthy of investing in is blasphemous.
Wolf,
It may not be a TA issue so if you would like we could take it to the other board.
Basically both sites need improvement. Check out www.newcenturyenergy.com for an example of a pro site IMO.
White background, clean crisp images. Good use of 'real estate' and colors as well as a left to right eye scan for information.
For a lot of new investors (the basic kind like myself) the website is going to be the first introduction to the company and what with 'Sanswire' splashed thru 90% PR's people will Google that and get there first.
There is a lot of 'static' info on Sanswire. Not alot of updating or changing of the information or images. I think as a 'communications' company, which is what I see both GTel and Sanswire, they should have a better web presence IMO.
This is a significant issue. Both sites are hardly advanced and not very well laid out (in my IT professional opinion). That many hits should be exploited by a site designed with marketing and investing in mind. They are missing a huge opportunity.
GTEL please take notice!!!
Can someone explain the spike to .354 at 10:00am-ish?
Newguy,
I am not sure I follow your reasoning re: VoIP.
IMO GTel will offer their superhubs for companies
offering VoIP. Their are hubs are setup and designed so that
the packets are sent in a contiguous manner and
therefore have much better quality when speaking
and listening. You may want to do some research.
Agentjon,

Thank you for that. I feel redeemed a little. (See Post# 9204)
I can't verify the following website or "poster" but it is interesting and mentions that the skin cannot be fully installed yet...

Stratellite Launch march 23-25, 2005
Posted by on 17/02/2005
SansWire One Stratellite is on schedule to launch.
Here is the schedule for the next 45 days.
February 16th - The propulsion team will arrive from the United Kingdom to install the engines and the guidance systems for Sanswire One.
http://www.kestrelaerospace.com/airship.htm?
February 21st - The rigid airframe will be complete and ready for FAA inspection. The airframe must be inspected before the final covering is placed on the airship.
February 28th - The final section of batteries will arrive from Germany. Shipments of the batteries will start arriving February 16th. Once all the batteries have arrived the final installation will be completed and tested.
March 1st - The final inspection of internal systems followed by the installation of the airship outer covering. FAA approval to be obtained before the final cover is applied to Sanswire One.
March 4th - The solar photovoltaic, which generate the majority of the power used on Sanswire One will be delivered by U.S. vendor and installed the following week.
March 15th - Testing of lifting gas cells will commence and final systems checks and structural inspections by all the section teams.
March 16th - Payload installation will be complete, including the first of three different packages that will be tested over the next 30 days.
March 23rd to 25th - the scheduled launch window. This will be decided based on the successful completion of the aforementioned processes and weather conditions. Updates will be provided one or two weeks before the launch to plan a public viewing of the airship and the date of the launch. There will be a video link on the GlobeTel website of the launch.
For more information, please go to www.sanswire.com or www.globetel.net
GlobeTel is featured on AFXM.com
Greg,
There have been a couple of reports. One that it was shown that way to allow viewers to see all facets of the strat. Inside and out. I think the bothersome part (IMO) is that the letter from March 15th at www.globetel.net/about/letter.html in paragraph 9, second sentence says...
"The airship will be complete with all systems needed to fly."
If that is the case then an explaination from Globetel IS warranted in my opinion.
At any rate this is still momentus and this investment should be a long one. Delays happen all the time.
Fair enough. Sorry you were offended for him/her. It sounded like bashing to me. Good luck to us all.
Kateric10,
Please explain...
