Down this morning. Appears to be bottoming around $500 a share. The big selling seems to be over. Anyone in his or her right mind knows the stock is a bargain. JMO. JYO2, Vern.
p_s_h: VERY funny. We need good laughs in this insane world.
lj: SMCI
Keep it under your hat. The stock went up yesterday (Thurs.) on almost double the average volume. The dollar and percentage amount of the move was not impressive. Today's trading (Friday) should give us an idea of whether the stock is heading back up or back down.
Was today an up day in a continuing downtrend? To be honest, I hope so because I would like to add more shares.
I blame the female Olympians for this travesty. They should have banned together and refused to compete until the he-she was barred.
Algerian boxer Imane Khelif is set to compete against China's Yang Liu in the women's welterweight gold medal match. This match is scheduled to take place on Friday, August 9, 2024

Are we talking mullahs in Tehran here?
Have you noticed that the Houtis have been behaving of late?
Have you noticed that the Saudis and Egypt don't seem to have an axe to grind with Israel.
Apparently, the poor Palestinians are as popular as ants at a picnic.

Memo to Vald
Subject: What goes around comes around!
lj: SCMI
Hope it resumes its decline tomorrow.
VTLE: Well, that earnings report didn't impress anyone. Groundhog's Day stock.
VLO: I notice that the stock is going sideways, more or less. The price of petrol varies widely around here. I saw it as high as $3.60 a gallon and as low as $3.25. Depends upon the station and location. Finally found a station within 4 miles that has the cheapest prices.
lj: Don't worry. I have learned my lesson on calls. I sell calls only when I want to unload a position and hope that it is called.
OT: Debby will be west of Central Maryland, if her course remains on track through Friday.
Western Maryland and Ohio will get up to 7" of rain. To be honest, Central Maryland could use 7" of rain after the months long "drought".
The mossies are looking forward to laying lots of eggs.
lj: LOL! That was a good one. The thing is, how is Trump going to say "drill, drill, drill" with a straight face when the U.S. producers already are "drilling, drilling, drilling".
Keep in mind, the anti-fossil fuel hypocritical Democrats want oil prices lower going into the election. The problem is that oil and gasoline prices are not moving in tandem.
Do the gasoline retailers want Trump to win because they know the Democrats would like to put them out of business? Not such a crazy theory.
lj: NVDA
$39,300 to buy in the call. Now the term "opportunity cost" is starting to come into the picture.
What if I were to put even half of $39K into SMCI. Maybe put the other half into MSTR, more share of NVDA, etc. I might have more than enough profit to pay the taxes on the capital gain on the 1000 shares of NVDA sold at $60.
Now if I could be 100 percent sure that the call would not be called until 2025, there would be no worries because the cap gain would be pushed out to then.
However, it the Dems sweep the W.H. and Congress, the taxes on stock market gains would be oppresive. Remember, they are the weird idiots who want to tax UNREALIZED gains. That is right out of Marxism 101. Seize the assets of the bourgeois class.
We could be in major trouble, Vern.
lj: SMCI
Your put in in the black ink. $480 in afterhours. I should have waited longer, but will buy more shares if it continues down. Whether I pay $500 or $300 won't matter when it is $1K or higher.
Too hard to figure the bottom, though I believe the 52-week low $226.52.
Just saw NVDA's close. I'm off to see what it would cost me to buy in that damn call.
al44: From what I saw on TV, the dance studio was down a side alley. The perp knew where it was. It is very unlikely it was a random attack. Was he schizo and someone put him up to it?
Let's hope the Daily Mail stays after this like a terrier after a squirrel.
.
NYBob: The British socialists have caused the anarchy, by allowing uncontrolled immigration into an island of maybe 55 million people. The son of an immigrant killed three innocent little girls in cold blood, stabbing several others, including their dance teacher. A British citizen puts a bumper sticker on his car saying "Stop illegal immigration", and they jail him for 2 YEARS.
Pakistani men rape and groom young girls for prostitution.
The people of Great Britain have had enough.
lj: VTLE
Are you going to listen to the call tomorrow? 8:30 a.m. EDT.
lj: oil
Speaking of which. . .today I paid $3.47 a gallon. Within the last week, it was $3.25. My sister says she paid $3.60 a gallon on the main highway at the same indie chain that sold it to me for $3.47. There are more crooks than you can shake a stick at.
Oil is down, petrol prices are up. Makes perfect sense. The refiners are sitting in the catbird seat. VLO at $180 again? Wouldn't be surprised.
lj: The big money players would sell their grandmother to Bedouins to make a $1 profit.
lj: Reminds me of VTLE in a sense. The PE was ridiculously low, but there were few people interested in buying it as a value stock.
This is very serious and has been under the radar.
Are they going to be able to even get the astronauts home.
Let's hope that not using Space X to get them home isn't an anti-Musk political decision. To be honest, this whole thing seems scary. https://www.yahoo.com/news/boeing-starliner-astronauts-now-space-151526196.html
lj: SMCI
Got ants in my pants and more than doubled down at $503 and change.
Total position: 45 shares. I could live with 450 post-split shares.
If it drops another 100 points, I'm going to double down again.
The decline has slowed, making me think it will head up on Friday. Or did I already say that somewhere?
lj: SMCI
The rate of decline has slowed. Hope you can exit your put tomorrow. It will be interesting to see what the stock does in the last hour of trading today. If and when it dips below $500, I'm going to start to add to my small position. The split isn't until Sept. or Oct., by the way. Would love to have a 100 share position going into the split. If it gets ridiculously cheap, that might be a possibility.
OT: Debby Are the Carolinas ever getting a double whammy. Tons of rain yesterday and today, then the storm actually hits tomorrow. Central Maryland is in its direct path. Should hit here on Friday.
NYBob: I am 100 percent against using supporting Israel with U.S. troops. VERY bad move, imo.
lj: Good job on NVDA! If they continue to throw out SMCI with the bath water. . . .
valuemind: SMCI
Okay. Give your $40 per share a PE of a conservative 20, and the stock is worth $800. A nice percentage gain in one year. (Post split, the numbers change to $4 and $80).
lj: SMCI
Down $53 and change today. Heard a guy on CNBC say that the stock is doing its own reverse split! Keep in mind that post split, the number of shares outstanding won't be astronomical.
This is a great LT play.
But we know that, don't we Vern!
Tim Walz, the Cacklet's VP pick, flies the Somali flag at his resident. Enough said.
They rejected the Jewish Governor of Pennsylvania and picked a guy who flies a Somali flag.
p_s_hoarder Victor Davis Hanson is assuming that your average American voter has the intelligence and discipline to investigate each candidate's background and policies. That is the flaw in his logic.
lj: SMCI
What is the expiration date on the put? I assume U went out about a month?
Like a bonehead, I added to my position in ALB (chem company) yesterday, and it dropped another $4 and change today. One of their three business segments is lithium mining, and lithium prices are way down. The world is awash in lithium. EV's aren't selling well.
Might take years to make money on ALB. The trading is volatile. However, I'm going to look into selling puts tomorrow at an unreasonably low strike price. Making $40 on a contract is fine with me. It all adds up.
lj: The manipulation is disgusting. This morning in Asia, Japan's market is coming back.
Haven't looked at the futures for the U.S. market yet.
lj: SMCI did a decent bounce from its low today. When VTLE rolls out an earnings report with earnings thanks to the hedge contracts, the stock will get noticed.
lj: VTLE
Believe it or not, I added to my position today at $37.97. Didn't buy a lot of shares, intending to watch for lower prices. Knowing their hedging sitzyation, you and I, Vern, are sitting in the catbird seat.
r59: TGB/copper
Thank you for posting the article. It is very interesting. TGB has dropped a few pennies from my purchase price today. My intent is to average down, but it wouldn't surprise me if the stock's low today becomes the 52-week low.
r59: TGB
Added to my position. It appears that China's economy is weak. Will buy more as/if copper prices drop. IMO, shares bought today will double in 2025.
NYBob: Trouble in Australia. We are talking Muslims. https://www.yahoo.com/news/australia-raises-terror-threat-level-021214112.html
NYBob: Yes, and the liberal media is accusing them of being far-right radicals.
lj: Well, today's markets are going to be quite a show, with the Nikkei hitting 1987 lows.
Bitcoin has been hit hard. Oil is holding steady. Berkshire Hathaway's revelation that is sold half of its Apple position in Q2 is making matters worse, since Apple is a DOW stock.
Oh, yeah. The Middle East. Fasten your seat belt!
lj: INTC
After listening to Stephanie Link on CNBC, I wouldn't buy INTC yet. She implied that things won't turn around until 2026. They are going to incur costs from laying off 15K people, which is terrible if U think about it.
Gmenfan: INTC
Intel's being a Chips Act beneficiary was the first thing that came to my mind when I heard the layoff announcement. Glad Steve Moore and Phil Kerpen wrote that article. People should know this.
Thank you for posting it.
al44: Something else that affirms my decision to not watch the Olympics. First there was the disgusting opening ceremony, then the trans "female" boxer, and now this.
lj SMCI, etc.
Very interesting. Thank you. 2.7 SGA to revs is very impressive. If the shorts want to push it down, be our guest. The lower-priced in the short-term, the higher the percentage profit down the road.
Another topic: VTLE After looking at the charts earlier today, my peon's thought would be to buy it hand-over-first at $38 or lower.
