al44: The $64K question is whether the Democrats will pull a number at the convention and run someone else, like Gruesome Newsom. The Convention is about 4 months away. Biden has to keep appearing like he is awake for 4 more months.
al44: Good for him. Now young women can turn out in droves to vote against him when he runs for reelection.
What I do not "get" is that female athletes compete against these people; they don't walk out.
If they boycotted events, things might change.
More fuel for DJT's reelection campaign.
The Republicans have to go after college-age women athletes, and all women athletes for that matter.
The transsexuals who compete in these events are very distrubed people, imo.
And, if they still have their male equipment, they are NOT transsexual; they are transvestites.
Period. End of discussion.
r59: GE
I hope to build a bigger position over time. Bought a small position today, to be more onboard in case the stock does not have a correction.
What interests me is the debt of the parent company and the spinoffs. If I ever find time, I plan to read the filings.
r59: GE is having a good day, up 5 points earlier.
lj: Gasoline prices
At one of the higher priced stations, saw petrol at $3.60!
If my lawn cutter decides to raise his charge due to higher fuel costs, I'll point out that he uses a battery powered lawn mower.
If the higher prices last a few months, the Fed will not be able to lower rates, which will cost the U.S. Government a LOT of money over the long run. If the Fed signals it will not be lowering rates, but staying the course, look out below in the stock market.
r59: TSLA and GE
The $64,000 question is whether the Government is going to allow China to flood the U.S. with cheap EV's.
On another topic, GE. Do you follow the company? I have owned shares for years and now wonder whether to add to my position post spinoff. I guess the company is now a lean-and-clean aviation play. It will be interesting to find out how much debt was "dumped" on the spinoff.
In the weeks ahead, it will be interesting to see whether GE's volume picks up.
The downside to GE is the pitiful dividend. However, if the debt service will become significantly less post-spinoff, perhaps an increase or two might be in the cards.
A good stock to follow, imo. Lot of things to figure out.
LJ: Josh Brown, a regular guest on CNBC, recommended IEO today, saying it has a way to go. Consistent with your view, and he has access info the fund managers use.
I cannot believe the price of VLO. Crazy.
Biden flying in illegals--list of receiving cities

al44: RFK, Jr. will pull votes from Biden, not Trump. Also, his message might result in younger people who hear his message not voting, which would benefit Trump.
Gmenfan: One more thing on Kuntstler essay:
I hope that the majority of MAGA people are unvaxed.
They know that privately, Trump was against getting vaxed, though what he was
required to say in public was the opposite.
I am sure that DesertDrifter cannot wait to get another booster or two! LOL!
Gmenfan: There is a reason that China did not go the vaccination route. What happens if vaxed medical staff-- physicians, etc., start dropping like flies? The military is highly vaxed.
The U.S. would be vulnerable to invasion by China.
Another thing comes to mind. Would the people most vulnerable to this super wave be those who have been repeatedly vaxed? Would, say, people who were vaxed only once, in the first half of 2021, be less susceptible?
I think Kunstler has gone all-out conspiracy theorist in thinking that it will hit around the time of the election.
What will happen before the election, this July, I predict, is that they will lock up Steve Bannon for 4 months to get him off of the media in the critical months before the election.
They'll put him in the cell that political prisoner Peter Navarro will be vacating after his 3-4 month false imprisonment.
lj: The MPG on the Ridgeline is 20. I think the economy is slowing down and they might sit on the lot for months and months and the dealership will be happy to unload them.
They are atypical pickups in that they are on a car chassis.
More for the weekend warrior than a serious pickup truck buyer.
As those Honda pick-me-ups sit there on the lot for months on end, I might get one at a decent price!
lj: There might be a plan afoot to flood the U.S. with cheap EV's from China the next time gas prices go into the stratosphere. Gasoline will never go above $4.50 a gallon. The supply is too plentiful.
al44: I believe you, but want to look at the Constitution to think about it a bit.
r59: WBA
I saw Cramer interview the CEO on CNBC recently. My impression is that the CEO knows that he has a lot of work to do to turn things around. But he wasn't too specific about changes he would make, if my memory of the interview is correct. He mentioned empowering pharmacists to do quasi-medical stuff in the stores, I believe.
Anecdotally speaking, I visited a Walgreen's the week before last and almost nothing was on sale, and the vitamin shelves were poorly stocked. My thought was they might be closing that location. It was the first time I visited there and left without a purchase.
Walgreen's merchandise, imo, is not overly priced, as is CVS's merchandise.
Tomorrow, I might sell puts, having a position that has a fairly big unrealized loss.
The stock is at a 10-year low.
al44: I agree with Myorkas that the law is unconstitutional. I also agree with MAGA members of Congress who want to impeach Myorkas. I agree with anyone who thinks he is guilty of treason and should be tried, convicted, and sent to Gitmo. (He is Cuban American. So Gitmo would be perfect.) Further, he is a disgrace to the Jewish race. He is a disgrace period.
lj: But, but, but, VTLE is issuing another tranche of securities--$100M worth--to pay off debt with higher interest rates.
I sold VLO and EGY way too soon, but I still have small positions, which are antidotes to despondency over the premature selling.
r59: TGB
Eating crow that tastes delicious! This is good news. Instead of checking news items, I should have gone directly to the company website.
I have held on to my entire position for years. By share count, it is one of the biggest positions.
The perfect storm would be good production in 2026 with elevated copper prices.
Thank you for posting the information and the PR. Regards.
P.S. If copper prices slip in the next year and TGB drops to $1.50 or less, I'll buy even more shares.
nelson1234: TGB
I told r59 3 years ago that I didn't think the ESG Biden Administration would give them the permit for the Florence mine. So, is it under construction yet? I think not.
Newsmax has a documentary featuring Kash about Russiagate. The Obama Administration spying on the Trump Campaign, the ridiculous Steele dossier, the PERSECUTION of Gen. Mike Flynn, the misrepresentation to the FISA Court--it is all there. It is chilling.
That was just a warmup to J6, which many think was a black flag op.
The American Republic is over. If the election goes the wrong way in November, we won't get it back. And these Republican Congressmen who are resigning are despicable. You have to wonder what the Democrats have on them.
We are in big trouble.
Your average American has NO idea of what is happening. NONE.
And if you try to explain anything to them, they hit you in the face with Trump, Trump, Trump.
One expression Kash used in the documentary on Newsmax, referring to the mainstream media, is "ass clowns". Perfect.
lj: Truist is probably at the head of the line.
lj: Well, you will recall my saying I can hear the trains hauling the coal from West Virginia and Western Maryland to the Port of Baltimore. I won't be hearing any train whistles for a long time.
The CSX trains also transport liquid ngas from Williamsport Pennsylvania. I might have mentioned that German generates half of its electricity from coal. They say the coal shipped out of Baltimore goes to Europe, but I believe some goes to Japan, which also burns a lot of coal post Fukishima.
The economic hit from this is not going to be small, no matter what the Wall Street eggheads think.
I95 is the major land transportation route up and down the East Coast. It goes through the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel. HOWEVER, the Key Bridge, which is in the drink, is used for trucks carrying dangerous chemicals, petrol, etc.. They cannot use the Harbor Tunnel for obvious reasons. All of those trucks now have to travel around the already overcrowded Baltimore Beltway, I-695, to get back on I-95 on the other side of the City.
Baltimore (and Maryland) has a nightmare ahead.
Maybe the very worst thing, other than the deaths of the poor souls who were on the Bridge,
is the hit to the local and U.S. economy, and to the energy security of a few of our allies.
The Port of Baltimore provides a lot of employment, directly and indirectly.
Trump 2024. He will waive environmental regulations and make building a new bridge a national priority. He would get it done in under 2 years.
DD: Kinda like the Bidens, only on a smaller scale.
lj: VTLE
I saw it was back under $50 today. No surprise there.
It seems the "excitement" is over, maybe for months on end.
lj: I have not done well with SDOW. Your thesis on SQQQ is interesting.
Odd market today. Only a handful of my positions were up, and the rest were down less that $1 each.
The U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine confirmed that Russia hit Kyiv with a hypersonic missile yesterday. Heard on War Room that Russia claims it hit Ukraine's intelligence headquarters. Makes you wonder whether there were U.S. citizens killed--U.S. intelliglence people, military advisors, e.g.
NYBob: Let's use a little critical thinking. Musk was not born in the U.S. He cannot become President; therefore, he cannot become Vice President.
lj: EGY
I hear you. My remaining shares are now above cost. My plan is to sell them before the next earnings report.
lj: Next they'll give Ukraine the coordinates of Texas' oil infrastructure, given their hatred of fossil fuels! LOL!
lj: NVDA is in the stratosphere.
By the way, there is a story out there that Russia hit Ukraine with a hypersonic missle.
If true, Democrats may change their tune on continuing to fund Ukraine. If we do, we risk escalation. What happens when Russia lobs a missile at Poland, a NATO country.
There needs to be a truce and a treaty.
lj: EGY up again today, about 80 cents. Sold too soon, but at least I am not in positive territory on the other one-third.
lj: I hear you. Huge betting event, so we shouldn't be surprised.
Give me your tired, your rich, your bundled in Canada Goose masses: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13230761/Asian-migrant-border-California-Jacumba-Canada-Goose.html
George Strait's long-time fiddler, Gene Elders, passed away. I was a big fan.
al44: These regulations have handed Trump a gift. He should run on this one issue!
lj: EGY
Sold 2/3rds of my position today at a profit. The other 1/3rd is still underwater.
I thought all of it was underwater, but when I checked the lots, I saw there were profits.
The yield in Government securities mm's is better than EGY's dividend yield.
If it drops below $5, perhaps I'll buy back some shares.
lj: This market is smoke and mirrors. To go from the macro to the micro, I was looking at Honda Ridgeline pick me ups, today. Two weeks ago, they had two new trucks at the dealership. Those trucks are still sitting there, along with about 5 more new trucks.
It is unusual to have inventory of trucks sitting on the lot, imo.
One of the trucks is very eye-catching. To be honest, I was shocked it was still there.
Either people don't want Ridgelines, or the economy is worse than people think.
