Leading the way in low cost entertainment

Virgin Blue's International airline Pacific Blue^ will be the first carrier in the southern hemisphere to offer unique, in-flight personal entertainment movie players to its Guests travelling between Australia , New Zealand and the Pacific Islands .
The digEplayer tm is a completely self contained portable on-demand entertainment system, programmed with a selection of movies, children's favourites, recent TV shows and music videos.
Pacific Blue will begin phasing the players in from late May and will have them available on all flights from 13 June. Guests will be able to rent a digEplayer tm for $12.00 .
The new entertainment system is designed to cater to the thousands of passengers who take advantage of Pacific Blue's great low fares and fantastic service, when taking off on holidays or to visit friends and relatives.
Virgin Blue Chief Executive, Brett Godfrey, said, “We are excited that Pacific Blue will be the first airline in the Southern hemisphere to have these innovative systems on board. They have been a great success and are hugely popular on airlines that have introduced them in the USA and Europe and we are confident that our Guests will also appreciate having them as an entertainment option to help make their flight even more enjoyable.”
The personal entertainment unit will compliment Pacific Blue's existing audio entertainment.
Brett Godfrey continued, “The team is focussed on ensuring Pacific Blue looks beyond offering great value fares and outstanding service to being a step ahead of the rest in terms of providing additional product enhancements to suit the needs of its Guests. The strategy is in line with the airline's “user pays” approach that offers the same level of service to all travellers at a small cost, without impacting on the carrier's low cost base and its ability to provide sustainable long term low fares.”
The digEplayer tm unit has 7” screens and is battery powered. Designed to sit on the fold down tray table, the units are easily shared between passengers with headphones that can be split between two. The digEplayers tm are encrypted and have a 40 gigabyte hard drive with state of the art technology developed by the supplier, APS of Tacoma, Washington.
Sixty digEplayers tm will be available on each flight with the movie content being updated every 60 days, giving even the most frequent Pacific Blue traveller plenty of variety.
^International flights to New Zealand operated by Pacific Blue Airlines (N.Z.) Ltd. International flights to Fiji, Vanuatu and the Cook Islands offered by Pacific Blue Airlines (Aust) Pty. Ltd. and operated by Pacific Blue Airlines (N.Z.) Ltd.
Expect to see nervous twitching from the big IFE players if installed Digeplayer comes out at half the weight and half the price of other systems when it hits the streets later this fall. Since the portable product debuted in 2003, the little device has sported a card swipe mechanism, increased its hard disk capacity to 40GB, and has a neat seatback pouch as a storage option.
You seem to have me confused with an e.Digital employee.
I would not reccomend you use opinions of posters on a message board for actual due diligence.
Please try 858-679-1504
Since I don't recall Atul making any of those statments, It would seem you are stuck in a point in time when you made some bad trades.
Best of luck to you in the future
"e.Digital's PRs always include as much embellishment and innuendo as possible" - Unnamed Non-invested Malcontent
Such a broad statement from such a narrow mind.
At the risk of restating an embellishment and innuendo...
I think e.Digital's role could realistically be...
"...providing ongoing product and technology enhancements, and manufacturing services."
For some narrow minds it may be a hard fact to find amongst the embellishments and innuendos.
Since todays PR was about an award for the non-installed player I find it interesting you would need to mention that they didn't mention the installed player.
For Caszee
"We look forward to continuing our support of APS/Wencor's digEplayer market opportunities by providing ongoing product and technology enhancements, and manufacturing services through our Asian partners."

e.Digital Corporation Expects Business Growth in Final Quarters of Fiscal 2005; Proprietary Video/Audio Technology Platform Fueling Business Expansion
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 22, 2004--e.Digital Corporation (OTC:EDIG), a leading innovator of proprietary digital technology platforms, today announced it expects revenues and advance payments, on purchase orders for products scheduled to ship next quarter, of over $2.2 million for the quarter ending December 31, 2004 with further business growth expected in the fourth quarter ending March 31, 2005.
'Our business and revenue growth is expected to be fueled primarily by customer-branded devices based on our proprietary video/audio technology platform,' commented Atul Anandpura, president and chief executive officer of e.Digital. 'In particular, through APS/Wencor's digEplayer(TM), the in-flight entertainment (IFE) industry is gaining an increasing appreciation for the outstanding picture and audio quality of our platform along with its long battery life and ease of use.'
Earlier this month, the chief executive officer of Europe's No. 1 low fares airline, Ryanair, revealed it had experienced ten times the demand it expected for its trial of the digEplayer, identifying it as a potentially lucrative source of revenue for Ryanair and other low-fare carriers (www.shephard.co.uk/inflight).
Anandpura continued, 'Beyond the IFE industry, our video/audio technology platform has brought us new business opportunities from industries and companies where our platform's features enable their product plans.'
'By continuing to expand the capabilities of our patented MicroOS(TM), e.Digital is at the forefront of innovating and integrating the latest technology into business and entertainment devices. While we are proud of our early pioneering efforts, the majority of our business growth is expected to come through successful partnering with companies who share our vision of enabling large business and consumer markets with user-friendly devices that are either pre-loaded with, or can easily and quickly access, secure content through new high-speed downloading protocols, with our patent-pending hardware encryption protecting the content.'
Concluded Anandpura, 'This past year, we positioned our engineering resources, technology platforms and business opportunities for revenue and margin growth. In 2005, we expect increasing orders from customers in the travel and leisure industry. We also expect to announce new customers for next-generation versions of our video/audio technology platform from both inside and outside of the travel and leisure industry. At the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (January 6-9, 2005), the next generation of our video/audio technology platform is scheduled to be unveiled in private meetings by e.Digital and by a large unannounced Asian customer. Both companies are scheduled to hold meetings with certain current and prospective customers. We expect significant business from this latest version of our platform will be announced within the next two quarters. Because of this and other new business developments, we are hiring additional engineering resources to meet increasing business demand. We look forward to releasing further business updates with revenue guidance, and announcing new business developments next quarter and throughout the coming year.'

e.Digital Corporation Focusing Core Business on Video/Audio Products

Company Provides Updated Business and Revenue Guidance
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 28, 2004--e.Digital Corporation (OTC:EDIG - News), a leading innovator of proprietary digital technology platforms, today announced it expects to report over $2 million in revenue for the second quarter of fiscal 2005, ended September 30, 2004. The company also announced it has received over $1 million in orders in the first month of its third fiscal quarter ending December 31, 2004 with further orders expected. e.Digital has received over $500,000 in deposits to date on the orders.
''Business from our MicroOS(TM)-based video/audio technology platform is gaining traction,'' remarked Atul Anandpura, president and chief executive officer of e.Digital. ''The outstanding picture and audio quality of our platform combined with its long battery life, ease of use and proprietary hardware encryption has opened the doors to increasing business opportunities from the travel and leisure industry, cable and satellite companies (and the companies who supply them DVR and set-top box hardware), and next-generation kiosk-centered business.''
Anandpura stated, ''While we have OEM/ODM business opportunities for our music-based audio technology platform, they have become less attractive due to increasingly lower manufacturing and royalty margins associated with these products. In the majority of these opportunities, the OEMs/ODMs determine the timing of manufacturing, quantities, branding, marketing and publicity of these devices, with consumers ultimately deciding the products' outcome.
''Instead of waiting on OEMs/ODMs and consumer product reaction, we are engaged with, and pursuing, partners and business opportunities where desirable content is offered and easily installed on our proprietary technology platforms for companies/industries and their installed subscriber/customer base,'' added Anandpura. ''Working with partners' management, engineering and marketing resources, we build customized MicroOS-enabled product solutions featuring our latest technology for their branding and distribution. Our relationship with APS (now a wholly owned subsidiary of Wencor), the digEplayer(TM), the airlines and their passengers, is representative of the business in which we are working and actively pursuing. While our proposed MicroOS licensing agreement with a large technology company and the proposed convergent devices for branding by large Asian ODMs/OEMs remain pending, we expect the majority of our revenue in fiscal 2005 (ending March 31, 2005) will be comprised of the higher margins and royalties derived from open and closed system video/audio products.''
Commenting on the Eclipse by Fujitsu Ten (EF10) arbitration process, Anandpura said, ''The arbitration panel is scheduled to hear our case on March 7, 2005. We remain confident in the facts of our case and believe they will lead to a favorable outcome.''
Concluded Anandpura, ''To align our annual meeting of shareholders more traditionally to follow the release of our fiscal year end audited financial statements, we are postponing the meeting until next summer. With no major corporate proposals to vote upon this year, postponing the meeting will also defer the costs associated with the printing and mailing of shareholder meeting materials ($125,000 - $150,000) until next summer.
''We expect further business, orders and announcements this quarter; we will also be providing updated business and revenue guidance in mid-November when our Form 10Q for the period ended September 30, 2004 is scheduled to be released.''

North American Airlines Announces $99 Fare from Oakland to Hawaii
http://www.tmcnet.com/usubmit/2004/Oct/1086885.htm
OAKLAND, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Oct. 25, 2004 -- Non-stop low fare scheduled air service to Maui and Honolulu from Oakland International Airport begins Thursday, November 4 by North American Airlines.
The airline will use modern B757-200 ER aircraft with leather seats, video movies and full service meals.
Introductory fares from $99.00 one-way will kickoff the new air service.
NAA, a financially successful airline for the last 15 years, has been flying to the Hawaiian Islands for the past three years from Oakland with a local tour operator. Now offered directly to the public, NAA's scheduled service will allow more transportation options for all Bay Area residents. The aircraft can be recognized by the giant American flag painted on the vertical tail.
North American is one of the first airlines to offer travelers the digEplayer(TM) from APS, a portable Video On Demand (VOD) entertainment technology. VOD technology is the future of in-flight entertainment. Each digEplayer is a self-contained, portable entertainment unit pre-programmed with 20 to 30 movies, sitcoms, cartoons, music and games. An internal battery powers each unit, allowing nearly ten hours of uninterrupted use.
Meal service will include hot meals as well as snacks depending on the time of day the passengers are flying.
Tickets are available through local travel agents, over the Internet at such locations as Expedia and Travelocity, as well as the North American Airlines Web site www.northamericanair.com.
Founded in 1989 by Dan McKinnon, former Chairman of the Civil Aeronautics Board, NAA is a fully certificated U.S. Flag airline with worldwide scheduled service authority and continues to operate scheduled service flights from its corporate headquarters and base of JFK International Airport, New York to the Caribbean. Over the years, NAA has earned the reputation as ''America's Greatest Little Airline.''

Ted to test renting portable DVD players
By David Kesmodel, Rocky Mountain News
October 11, 2004
Ted, United Airlines' budget carrier, thinks it may have found a new formula to keep passengers entertained.
Ted plans this week to begin testing the rental of portable DVD players for $12.
The carrier is teaming with InMotion Pictures, an airport DVD-rental company, to offer fliers the chance to rent the devices for flights between Denver and Orlando, Fla.
Fliers will be able to rent the systems at the gate and return them at one of three places: the gate where they land, an InMotion airport kiosk or a stand-alone drop box at the airport. For the price of the rental, fliers also will get to chose a free movie rental from a selection of current releases, classics and kids' films.
The offering will be Ted's second test of a portable entertainment system. The company previously tested the digEplayer, a device it rented for $10 and distributed during flight.
Ted found passengers didn't get as much viewing time with the digEplayer as the airline would have liked because of the time required to distribute them by flight attendants, who also were busy with food and beverage service.
Other carriers, such as Alaska Airlines, have picked the digEplayer as their portable offering.
Big airlines increasingly are rolling out handheld devices that show movies, music videos, cartoons or sitcoms.
The carriers want to compete better with rivals such as JetBlue Airways and Denver-based Frontier Airlines, which offer live satellite television on each seatback. Renting portable devices requires far less expense for carriers than installing satellite-TV.
'We are really excited about the InMotion opportunity,' said Tim Simonds, director of marketing and planning for Ted. The airline likes the efficiencies of the 'gateroom distribution model.'
InMotion has been renting DVD players at airports about five years. It has locations at DIA and more than 20 other major U.S. airports.
The company's three founders - Michael Freedman, David Kight and Barney Freedman - say on InMotion's Web site they wanted 'an option that could help 'shorten' flight times, rescue parents from bored children and ease the pain of road warriors everywhere.'
'They have a very wide distribution network, and they're growing, so we're very interested in this,' said Sean Donohue, United's vice president for Ted and United Express.
The test price of $12 is the same price InMotion charges at its airport kiosks. Ted will require a $100 deposit, rather than the $250 deposit InMotion requires, Donohue said. Credit and debit cards will be accepted.
Passengers will be able to start watching movies on the InMotion DVD players as soon as the plane reaches cruising altitude. Fliers also could start the movies while waiting at the gate.
The players have two audiojacks, allowing two children to watch the same movie on one player.
If passengers have their own DVD players, they will be able to rent a DVD from Ted for $5.
Donohue indicated Ted is leaning toward picking the InMotion product over other products as a permanent entertainment offering.
'Now, if digEplayer or someone else can come up with the gateroom distribution, we're willing to take a look,' he said.
'But InMotion is the furthest ahead on that.'
Airline-industry consultant Stuart Klaskin said the $12 cost 'seems pricey to me.'
'The problem is you have JetBlue offering live TV for free,' said Klaskin, partner in KKC Aviation Consulting in Miami. (Frontier offers live TV for $5.)
'And compared to live TV,' he said, 'it's a much more limited selection. It's a movie instead of getting to flip through channels. The advantage is it gets them more competitive, and they can test this without retrofitting the airplanes. It's much better than nothing.'
Chicago-based United, which is in bankruptcy, launched Ted in February as part of the carrier's effort to fend off growing competition from discount carriers.
Ted flies to eight leisure destinations from Denver, including New Orleans and Las Vegas.
United is the biggest carrier at Denver International Airport, controlling about 60 percent of the traffic.
Movies with Ted Ted, United's budget carrier, has teamed up with InMotion to test renting DVD players and movies on Denver-Orlando, Fla., flights.
• How it works: Passengers will be able to rent the players at their Ted gate and return them at the gate where they land, an InMotion airport kiosk or a stand- alone drop box at the airport.
• Cost: $12 a day for a 7-inch player and $15 a day for a 9-inch player. That includes one movie. Additional movies can be rented for $4.
Hawaiian Airlines - America's Best Airline
Tuesday October 5, 5:27 pm ET
#1 in August for On-Time Service, Baggage Handling, and Fewest Cancellations
http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/041005/latu138_3.html
HONOLULU, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- For the 10th consecutive month, Hawaiian Airlines ranked as the nation's most punctual airline in August with an incredible 95.5 percent of its flights arriving on time (see chart below), according to the Air Travel Consumer Report issued today by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20040827/LAF044LOGO)
In addition, Hawaiian finished #1 among airlines nationwide for its handling of customers' luggage, and for recording the fewest number of flight cancellations. Hawaii's biggest and longest-serving airline also ranked highly with the fewest number of consumer complaints.
"No airline in America had a better August than Hawaiian Airlines and it capped off an amazing summer of top-rated service for our customers," said Mark Dunkerley, Hawaiian's president and chief operating officer. "Despite the seasonal demands of increased travel, our operational excellence soared to unprecedented heights with 96 percent on-time arrivals for the summer. We were also the first airline to introduce two new customer innovations with the digEplayer laptop personal entertainment system, and the BaggageDirect mobile skycap service."
The digEplayer is the world's first self-contained, portable, inflight entertainment system, offering transpacific passengers a selection of 10-15 first-run, full-length movies; 8-10 short subjects or situation comedies; 20 music videos; and 100 audio tracks.
BaggageDirect is an exclusive, TSA-certified service providing complete passenger and baggage check-in from home, office, or hotel including delivery of boarding passes and baggage claim receipts. Customers avoid the airport check-in process altogether and go straight to the gate.
Hawaiian proved to be at its best during its busiest time of year -- the three-month peak summer travel season. Hawaiian averaged an astounding 95.9 percent record of punctuality over the course of summer, with August's 95.5 percent of on-time arrivals following previous marks of 95.3 percent in June and 97.0 percent in July.
It also marked the three best months of on-time service that any airline has ever recorded.
Hawaiian raised its year-to-date on-time service record to 93.3 percent, an eight-month average that exceeds any single month recorded by any other carrier in 2004. On-time service, according to DOT standards, requires a flight to arrive within 15 minutes of schedule.
Following Hawaiian, the top five airlines for on-time service in August were SkyWest Airlines, 86.2 percent; Continental Airlines, 81.3 percent; Northwest Airlines, 81.2 percent; and ATA Airlines, 80.7 percent. The industry average for all reporting airlines was 78.3 percent -- 17.2 percentage points behind Hawaiian.
Nation's #1 in Baggage Handling; #1 in Fewest Flight Cancellations
Hawaiian's industry-best punctuality was just one facet to its customer service record for August, as the company also ranked at the top in the other categories reported by DOT for mishandled baggage reports, flight cancellations, and consumer complaints.
For the second straight month, Hawaiian topped all carriers nationally with its handling of customers' luggage, recording only 2.41 mishandled baggage reports per 1,000 passengers served.
The company also had the nation's best record in terms of fewest flight cancellations. Out of Hawaiian's 4,469 flights in August, only 0.4 percent -- or 19 flights total -- were cancelled, topping all other carriers.
Hawaiian ranked as the industry's fifth-best airline in terms of consumer complaints, with the DOT receiving only two complaints -- the fewest of any airline -- out of the 512,770 passengers served in August, representing just 0.39 complaints for every 100,000 passengers.
Dunkerley noted, "No airline anywhere is doing a better job at serving its passengers."
The DOT's Air Travel Consumer Report for August is available online at http://airconsumer.ost.dot.gov/reports/atcr04.htm.
About Hawaiian Airlines
Hawaiian Airlines, the nation's number one on-time carrier, is recognized as one of the best airlines in America. In addition, Hawaiian is ranked as the nation's fifth best airline overall by Travel + Leisure, ahead of every other carrier flying to Hawaii.
Celebrating its 75th year of continuous service, Hawaiian Airlines is Hawaii's biggest and longest-serving airline, and the second largest provider of passenger air service between Hawaii and the mainland U.S. Hawaiian offers nonstop service to Hawaii from more mainland U.S. gateways than any other airline. Hawaiian also provides approximately 117 daily jet flights among the Hawaiian Islands, as well as service to Australia, American Samoa and Tahiti.

PEAs to kill the in-flight doldrums

You have no idea how happy we are to hear that airlines are finally jumping on the in-seat entertainment bandwagon. Against all logic, all the budget airlines have the good entertainment (like Song and JetBlue) but all the fancier more expensive ones leave you sittin’ bored in your seat; American Airlines, and Virgin Atlantic will soon join the ranks of Alaska Airlines, KLM, and Royal Dutch in being among the first to offer portable console-like players (PEAs, or personal entertainment appliances) to passengers. AA will begin testing the PEA on 747s in November, free for all passengers except coach, and will offer stuff like TV, music videos, and games (movies will be extra). Alaska and those Scandi airlines are apparently already rocking the digEplayer, which is $10 a flight, but has all free content. The Brits at Virgin must be upgrading (the last Virgin flight we took actually already had in-seat entertainment) to the YES! Solo, which out-classes (pun intended) the rest of the devices in screen size and storage. Now if only they could be convinced to retrofit their planes like the sleeper cars in trains, then we’d really be on to something.
U.S. House approves tougher law against file trading
Individuals could face criminal charges
http://www.infoworld.com/article/04/09/28/HNusfiletrading_1.html
By Tom Krazit, IDG News Service September 28, 2004
The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill Tuesday that could allow criminal charges to be brought against individuals who participate in file-swapping Web sites or networks.
On a voice vote, the measure passed the House and will now be sent to the U.S. Senate.
The bill expands the definition of file traders eligible for criminal penalties from individuals who 'willingly' distribute copyright files to those who 'knowingly' do so, an escalation that could result in jail time for file swappers, according to Adam Eisgrau, executive director of the P2P United lobbying group, which represents peer-to-peer companies and organizations.
The Piracy Deterrence and Education Act of 2004 was sponsored by Representative Lamar Smith, a Republican from Texas. 'My legislation will close a loophole that has made it impossible for prosecutors to bring charges against counterfeiters. It empowers federal authorities to prosecute counterfeiting activity on a greater scale with better results,' Smith said in a statement posted to his Web site Tuesday.
Detractors of the legislation claim that the measure would not stop the trading of copyright files and will not help the entertainment industry find a way to ensure artists get paid for the distribution of their works.
'Putting downloaders behind bars, or decimating their college funds with civil lawsuits, won't put the genie of peer-to-peer technology back in the bottle or put real money in the pockets of real artists,' P2P United's Eisgrau said in an e-mail interview with IDG News Service earlier this week.

Manufactured by e.Digital Corporation for APS, the digEplayer 5500 features the latest technology licensed from e.Digital (MicroOS(tm) and engineering) and DivX (compression).
Don't you all now understand how they use distortions to cloud your understanding of the truth?
The digEplayer is not only a cost-efficient means for the airlines to provide a variety of entertainment options from first-run movies and television shows to music videos and destination information, but also may be the first and only profit-generating IFE system that provides revenue(for the Airlines) from both rentals and advertising.

Admitting all of your DD, but a job post for a non-manager position, is based on message board posters helps put your thoughts into perspective.
That with your posting history makes it a total waste of bytes.

Music Industry Sues 744 More for File Sharing
Wed Aug 25, 2004 01:28 PM ET
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The trade group representing the U.S. music industry has filed a new round of lawsuits against 744 people it alleges used online file-sharing networks to illegally trade in copyrighted materials, it said on Wednesday.
The Recording Industry Association of America said the various suits, filed in courts across the country, cover "John Doe" defendants whose true identities are unknown to the group. There were also suits against people who were identified but did not agree to an out-of-court settlement with the RIAA.
An RIAA spokesman was not immediately available for further comment.
The RIAA said the individuals it sued used a variety of Internet platforms to swap songs, including Limewire, Grokster, Kazaa and eDonkey.
Since last September, the RIAA has sued more than 4,000 people in its efforts to combat piracy, which the music industry has blamed for a multiyear decline in CD sales. Some music fans have countered that bad music, and not piracy, was to blame for the decline.
Last week a federal appeals court held that makers of file-sharing software could not be held liable for certain kinds of copyright infringement, dealing a blow to efforts by the movie and music industries to stop at the source the exchange of files they say has cost them billions.
The RIAA represents the world's largest record labels, such as Warner Music, EMI Group Plc (EMI.L: Quote, Profile, Research) and the music arms of Bertelsmann AG (BERT.UL: Quote, Profile, Research) , Sony Corp. (6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research) and Vivendi Universal (V.N: Quote, Profile, Research) .
