Raf
would that indicate they are reaching events slower than expected?
Bill,
How much quanity are their backorders?
It use to be fairly large because of scheduling issues. The customers were taking a long time for delivery date. They had hired a new guy to take of that. I had sold out my position and don't know how he did with that issue. Now i am back.
What it means is, if Amarin spent $200 million to bring a new drug to market and Vascepa is not considered to be a drug by the FDA then they have in effect thrown $200 million away. And as I stated, how could they be that stupid, because whether or not a candidate qualifies as a drug should logically be determined and certainly guaranteed before excessive amounts of money are spent to bring it to market. If they proceeded without that knowledge it would be the boner of the century.
I can't understand how Amarin would be willing to spend $200 million they didn't need to. Why aren't more people asking that question? Is Amarin that stupid? That would be the boner of the century.
Capstone has their feet wet in the Maui hotel circles, so speaking of wet, the whole island lost all power because of a recent storm. Could very well ring some bells in the heads of the slower group of hotel managers.

Capstone Turbine Corporation (www.capstoneturbine.com) (NASDAQ:CPST), the world's leading clean technology manufacturer of microturbine energy systems, announced today that it has recently signed a 2 megawatt (MW) Factory Protection Plan (FPP) multi-year contract with its Hawaiian Distributor Critchfield Pacific for a global resort hotel chain on the island of Maui. This adds to the established, multi-year contract for the same resort hotel chain at a large property on the Hawaiian island of Kaui. Total FPP long-term contract coverage for Capstone units operating in Hawaii is now 74% as a result of the latest multi-megawatt FPP contract.
“We anticipate accelerated adoption of our microturbines at resort hotels in island locations like Hawaii that are subjected to inclement weather events such as hurricanes, typhoons or tropical storms. These weather events can subsequently result in grid outages which are also driving the adoption of our industry-leading FPPs to guarantee high performance and availability of these critical onsite power generation assets,” said Jeff Foster, Capstone’s Senior Vice President of Customer Service and Quality. “Large multi-year contracts like these are helping to boost the growth of our FPP revenue despite product headwinds from various macroeconomic events,” added Mr. Foster.
Capstone’s FPP is a comprehensive maintenance program designed to give financial peace of mind to customers by setting the cost at a fixed rate for both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance for the life of the microturbine product. The FPP contract enables customers to have predictable and stable maintenance costs over the life of the equipment and protects the users from unscheduled maintenance expenditures.
“Hotel and resort owners in island locations are beginning to recognize the true value of onsite power generation for combined heat and power and combined cooling heat and power, or CHP/CCHP, especially after the devastating impact of the most recent round of hurricanes in the southeast U.S. and the Caribbean Islands. Property owners are becoming more proactive by working to put onsite energy assets in place in order to guarantee the continued operations of their critical loads at their island-based hospitality facilities,” said Darren Jamison, Capstone’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “Capstone microturbines are excellent for enabling both onsite prime power generation and CHP/CCHP. Capstone’s industry-leading comprehensive long-term FPP service contracts provide a complete end-to-end solution to cost-effectively assure operations at these higher risk island locations,” added Mr. Jamison.
“Now more than ever customers recognize the need to reduce operational risks of grid outages caused by unpredictable weather. The recent hurricanes are helping to bring forth a greater awareness to Capstone’s innovative microturbine product and service offerings, much as they had done so in the past within the greater New York area. Since the devastation of Hurricane Sandy in 2012, our local distribution partner in New York, RSP Energy Systems, currently has 81% of their fleet under long-term FPPs,” said Jim Crouse, Capstone Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
“The combination of the increased market awareness of Capstone microturbines due to the recent hurricanes, and the benefit of both our highly reliable microturbine products for onsite generation and our industry-leading long-term FPP service contracts, are the foundation of our multi-point strategic path towards achieving Adjusted EBITDA breakeven in the near term,” said Jayme Brooks, Capstone’s Chief Financial Officer and Chief Accounting Officer.
Adjusted EBITDA is defined as net income before interest, provision for income taxes, depreciation and amortization expense, stock-based compensation expense and the change in warrant valuation. Adjusted EBITDA is not a measure of our liquidity or financial performance under GAAP and should not be considered as an alternative to net income or any other performance measure derived in accordance with GAAP, or as an alternative to cash flows from operating activities as a measure of our liquidity.

Capstone Expands Biogas Market Share in Taiwan with First C1000 Signature Series Microturbine
Capstone Turbine (NASDAQ:CPST)
Intraday Stock Chart
Today : Friday 20 October 2017
Capstone Turbine Corporation (www.capstoneturbine.com) (NASDAQ:CPST), the world's leading clean technology manufacturer of microturbine energy systems, announced today it has secured its first C1000 Signature Series order for a biogas project in Taiwan.
Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC), Capstone’s exclusive distributor for Taiwan, secured the order. The biogas-fueled microturbine will be installed at a large piggery. Pig waste is processed through an anaerobic digester to make methane-based biogas, which is then utilized as a renewable fuel by the Capstone microturbine. The microturbines were selected for the project due to their high reliability, low maintenance requirements, low emissions and use in other biogas applications across the globe.
“We are excited to see our first Signature Series order in Taiwan,” said Jim Crouse, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Capstone Turbine. “AIDC has a successful history of developing the biogas market in Taiwan, and this project further reinforces them as the go-to solution provider for biogas projects in the region. Additionally, with the government’s focus on incentivizing biogas energy projects on these farms, we feel AIDC is well-positioned in the marketplace for further success,” added Mr. Crouse.
According to the Energy Information Administration (EIA), in 2015 Taiwan imported nearly 98% of its energy needs. On February 20, 2017, as part of the government’s efforts to reduce dependence on imported power, Taiwan announced an $84 million government project to promote and subsidize the production of biogas in piggeries with at least 5,000 or more pigs. Pig farming is a major sector of Taiwan’s agricultural industry, with more than 7,600 piggeries nationwide.
“This order is significant as it continues to demonstrate our penetration into the expanding biogas market in Taiwan which is government-backed,” said Darren Jamison, President and Chief Executive Officer of Capstone Turbine. “Last year the biogas or renewable energy market made up about 7% of our total revenue but this year’s market success of our new Signature Series product could drive additional revenue in this key market vertical,” added Mr. Jamison.

Are Russian sanctions being lifted in near future? Someone is obviously betting on them being lifted the way pay payments are spaced they believe by 2018.
It’s the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine).
The Energy World, as We Know It, Is Changing
The coming of a new presidential administration portends a signi cant shift in energy, environmental, and economic policies and priorities. Major forces are in play that can reshape our industry, e.g., the growth of distributed energy resources, the advent of new technologies that can transform the grid, changing central station generation economics, and continued low natural gas prices, to name but a few.
Our world is changing, significantly and for the long term. We are seeing growing baseload plant retirements and their replacement with increasing amounts of gas- red and renewable resources in many regions. Solar energy penetration in the power supply portfolio may soon reach a tipping point, where effects of the “duck curve” and even curtailment of solar resources may become mainstream.
Utilities are responding and adapting. We are seeing innovation with strategies, customers, technologies, processes, and regulatory paradigms. Bellwether energy regulatory jurisdictions like California and New York are pursuing changes in regulation to promote and accommodate more distributed resources on the grid. Energy and utility companies are piloting efforts to test and shape the new regulatory regimes.
Utilities are substantially increasing investment in utility-scale solar resources. They are also pursuing new agreements with stakeholders and adaptations to traditional regulation, such as performance-based ratemaking, to encourage grid modernization, limit lag in cost recovery, and promote customer-centric outcomes. Many are investigating new technologies, such as blockchain, and are seeking to play a greater role in technology-enabled “smart city” infrastructure.
Indeed, it may be the end of the world as we know it, but by the same token, it is a time of unparalleled opportunity and possibilities, and so there is much to accomplish and feel ne about.

Russian sanctions and the fact that the EPA under the Obamma administrations were moving away from fossil fuels. Should be much better under Trump.
But the quedtion is what wzs discusded beforehand between Amarin and the FDA about the status of Vascepa. I Can't believe that this whole approval process is begun without out some sort of eligelbility diussions
I think the difference is that the company that manufactures and sells Lovaza never brought proceeding against the D'S industry, where as Amarin has. What I find strange about all of this is why so late in the game for the FDA to determine whether or not Vascepa is a drug or a supplement. It seems very unreasonable to have a company spend $200 million without first making that determination. I believe this will make the FDA look inept and even more so if the D'S industry prevails.
Thanks Bill,
Maybe one day.
Just got my feet wet with CPST today. Hoping to get ORDERS from hurricane devastated areas.
Northrop Grumman Corporation have successfully load tested the most powerful electric motor ever tested by the U.S. Navy and the world’s first 36.5 megawatt (49,000 horsepower) high temperature superconductor (HTS) ship propulsion motor, double the Navy’s power rating test record.
Incorporating coils of HTS wire that are able to carry 150 times the power of similar-sized copper wire, the motor is less than half the size of conventional motors. It will help make new ships more fuel-efficient and free up space for additional war fighting capability.
This system was designed and built under a contract from the Office of Naval Research to demonstrate the efficacy of HTS motors as the primary propulsion technology for future Navy all-electric ships and submarines. Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) funded and led the successful testing of the motor.
The Navy has invested more than $100 million in the development of HTS technology, paving the way not only for use in Navy ships but also in commercial vessels, such as cruise liners and liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers, which can also take advantage of the space and efficiency benefits of HTS motors.
Technical Background
Load testing demonstrates how a motor performs under the stresses and operating conditions it undergoes when powering a vessel at sea. This final development stage of the motor provides engineers and ship propulsion integrators with vital information regarding design options and the operating characteristics of the new superconductor motors.
The 36.5-MW (49,000 horsepower) HTS motor does 120 rpm and produces 2.9 million Newton-meters of torque. The motor is being specifically designed to provide propulsion power for the next generation of Navy warships. A motor of this scale also has direct commercial application in large cruise ships and merchant vessels.
As an example, two 44-MW conventional motors are used to propel the famous Queen Elizabeth 2 cruise ship. These motors each weigh over 400 metric tons; the 36.5-MW HTS motor will weigh approximately 75 metric tons.
http://www.electric-vehiclenews.com/2009/06/navy-tests-worlds-most-powerful.html
Significantly, the HTS motors being developed by American Superconductor involve no major changes in fundamental motor technology. The machines operate in the same manner as conventional motors, gaining their substantial advantages by replacing copper rotor coils with HTS rotor coils. The rotors of HTS motors run "cold," so they avoid the thermal stresses experienced by conventional machines during normal operation. The inability to achieve proper thermal management has been a key impediment in developing power dense, high torque motors required for naval and commercial marine applications. Stresses caused by heat in other advanced, high power motors often necessitates costly motor repair and refurbishment.
BB,
Further evidence that our gov't is inefficient at running programs and should not be involved in healthcare. Bureaucrats don't care about spending, waste, or efficiency just finding a place to stack their abundant action memorandums that re eive no action. I've seen this first hand as a gov't contractor piles of disorganized memorandums stacked ramdomly so when you walked in someone's office you knew they were not doing much because there was no accountability. If I saw it you know their boss saw the same thing. It's all a big money game to give people jobs they don't do. What a waste, sad really.
They should also be advocating the exportation of natural gas. The tankers used to transport the natural gas could be powered by Capstone turbines again using the raw product to fuel the turbines. How much more efficient could that be considering that a majority of natural gas is being flared at well sites?
Their marketing dept. must be filled with deadbeat relatives. There should be no long term waiting time for orders. They should be compiling an inventory stockpile and putting pressure on the marketing dept. to deliver. They need to invest in an effective advertising campaign to make the public aware of their product. The most effective would be with involving their current customers demonstrating the reliability and efficiency of the product. They seem to think customers will just come to them, and they would if they were aware of the high efficiency and adaptability of the product. They also need to advocate the building of pipelines from N. Dakota to get natural gas to market much more efficiently. The larger the stock pile of natural gas the less expensive to power their turbines, a self perpetuating situation for Capstone. Capstone also has a great advantage in that they can use the raw product to power the mechanisms needed to transmit oil and gas through the pipelines. We now have a President who knows business is anyone at Capstone trying to take advantage of that fact.? Hire lobbyist for Gods sake. They should be drooling about their situation.
Exactly, and has been my opinion for years. It seems President Trump is siding on the side of generics while ignoring the high cost of bringing a new drug to market. I equate that thinking to the situatipn that exist in the rising cost in health care, which has numerous factors associated with these cost. For instance, when using mathematics all values on both sides of an equation must be used to find an accurate result. Healthcare cost will never be completely addressed properly until all issues affecting the rise are conidered. One such example is Tort reform. Another is graft. The lawyers in gov't are resistant to do anything to affect the brotherhood of lawyers. Once you let the wolf in the hen house don't expect to eat a lot of eggs.
Perhaps the FDA is approaching many problems the wrong way. For instance, high Trigs is a symptom of a problem. Just because a drug fixes a symptom does not mean that its unique mechanism of action will not solve a problem related to that symptom. So when they state that because two other drugs that address a symptom have no effect on relieving CVT disease doesn't necessarily mean that a third drug which has a long history, by the way, of having a beneficual relationship should be treated in the same manner as those that do not.
So if they made a mistake in issuing the Anchor SPA why did they not eliminate the Marine indication? Science is science, right? That is why I believe the FDA was pressured by some entity and the science they used was faulty. They believed that Amarin would not challenge their decision as long as the Marine trial results were left alone. As it turns out that is exactly what happened. The carrot for Amarin was the RI trial which the FDA thought would reaffirm their decisions. That is why they set the bar so high. Instead it may well blow up in their face.
If they were that certain that lowering trigs had no effect than why keep the Mari ne indication label. That would indicate that they were not so certain, if they were not certain they then why take away the Anchor SPA. It would lead one to believe that very high Trig levels are dangerous, but there exist no value in preventing one's trigs from going from high to very high. Doesn't seem to be logical.

Thanks Hdg,
Seems to me it is to protect each party under a different set of Circumstances. If sales were light it would protect Kowa, if sales are brisk then Amarin. Just guessing but it seems logical.

BC,
HOPE you, your family, friends, and properties are well and safe. I have been mentioning all the victims of these series of storms in my prayers.
God bless all of you
Glad that you came out of it alright physically and I hope your family and properties survived also. I am sorry you had to go through such an event i can only imagine how much of a tramatic ordeal it has been for those areas hit by these series of storms. I can only pray that everyone will recover and that the hurricane season will end and bring no more harm to anyone. I Don't know how many on this board were affected, I know BC was, I will say my prayers for all.
God Bless
To those of you who have suffered through the hardships of the recent hurricanes. This company provides products that are low maintenance, durable, and reliable that can power businesses, communities, and utilies before, during, and after catastrophe events. I am no longer invested in this company they were severely hurt during the last administration. A great deal of their revenue came from Russia and have been hurt by current and past sanctions. Incently, the Russians used their product to power oil fields exposed to the some of the most harsh conditions. "Driving down the cost of drugs" I would think the first thing to do would be to determine what makes them so expensive. Eliminate what is possible. Perhaps you should try buying your drugs from a source that are manufactured in a Chinese sweat shop. A business over there that use to manufacture drywall and could not do that safely, went out of business, and now manually squeezes fish oil out of rotting fish and pour it into tiny, little pills. You can always save money that way. By the way that process will not appear anywhere in their literature, which by the way will be written very well, and proof read to attract suckers like you.
