All new iPhones and iPads expected to ship with fingerprint sensors: reports

May 29, 2014 - It looks like Apple will ship every iPad and iPhone that’s introduced this year with a biometric Touch ID fingerprint sensor. That’s according to a report from lauded KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
According to a report in AppleInsider, Kuo’s latest research note indicates that Apple will also switch up the chemical used in the production of the Touch ID module to boost durability, and could be eyeing tin. The company could also be looking to change up its production partner for the Touch ID sensors, Kuo’s note says. According to AppleInsider, this news comes shortly after code discovered in iOS 7.1 also pointed to new iPads coming packaged with fingerprint sensors.
This new isn’t altogether unsurprising as embedded fingerprint sensors in mobile devices have really taken off over the past year and Apple was one of the first to integrate. Reported previously, Samsung too, looks as though it will include fingerprint sensors in upcoming tablets. This was also discovered through code inspection – from a new firmware release.
