The thing is though as the ethanol price goes down, export demand goes up therefore supporting a higher price and the need for it here doesn't go down.
Interesting that they didn't include PEIX in the list of ethanol producers.
I wonder too.
If they don't come out with a quota, does the original rule stand?
And yet once again, just like it was with PEIX last week, according to the weekly chart, they are far from breaking the up signal.
Wow, look at the import and export numbers this year compared to past years :)
Looking at past years on that page Sept-Dec monthly production has been above the average for most years.
This also shows past years

This may not be what you're looking for but it sure has a lot of info in 1 place.

If you look at the weekly chart however, the cross is actually going to be good ;)
EU raids ethanol companies in alleged price-fixing probe

Raids revive investigation that started in May 2013

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — European Commission officials have raided the offices of two ethanol companies, nearly 18 months after similar raids were conducted as part of an investigation of alleged oil price fixing.
The commission, the European Union antitrust authority, did not say which companies were involved earlier this week or where they were located. The raids were a “preliminary step” to investigations and do not mean the companies are guilty of “anticompetitive behavior,” it added.
“The commission has concerns that price benchmarks may have been distorted through anticompetitive behavior, including through possible collusion when submitting price information to a Price Reporting Agency,” it said in a statement. “Even small distortions may have a significant impact on prices, potentially harming consumers.”
In May 2013, the commission raided the offices of European oil companies, later identified in media reports as U.K.-based BP PLC, Anglo-Dutch Royal Dutch Shell PLC, and Norway’s Statoil ASA. The companies have said they were cooperating with authorities.
That investigation is related to suspected manipulation as the companies submitted oil prices to Platts, an oil-pricing agency that is part of McGraw Hill Financial.
Unlike futures contracts for benchmark commodities such as West Texas Intermediate, Brent crude, and RBOB gasoline, which trade on exchanges, there are hundreds of crude-oil grades and blends as well as other energy products trading in more opaque markets that peg their prices to data from oil-pricing agencies.
What were the margins last year at this time?
That's what jumped out at me!
$52 million cash in the coffers?
Wow
That's $2/share just in cash sitting around.

This is an interesting page that shows current inventories and production for the different PADD's as well as gasoline demand and a lot of other data.
Unfortunately some PADD's production is witheld including PADD 5 but inventories and other data are interesting to see in one place.

What's worse is his posts are more like propaganda that informative.
Wow, your post isn't anything close to accurate posting.
Useless is what I would call it.
From the ISU card numbers I added up the daily numbers for Return Over Operating Costs.
For 4th Quarter 2013 - 49.11
For 1st Quarter 2014 - 47.66
Someone care to check my addition skills? ;)
Lots of small(font) numbers.
Thoughts?
Anyway to compare daily west coast premuims?
I don't have the historical data.
Pacific Ethanol next reports earnings on May 05, 2014.
It cracks me up whenever you post this ...
"NOW HERBIE NOW"
:)
I'm still amazed ...
The past 7 days? wow
http://www.nasdaq.com/markets/ethanol.aspx?timeframe=7d
I remember looking at the charts and thinking this thing is gonna go to 10.
Well, I look at it now and see 10 down there and still feel weird thinking this thing is gonna go to 25 because that was a wild thought at the end of last year.
Now the wild thoughts of where it could go are just, well wild.
$4 ethanol on the west coast?
I keep watching and corn and keep waiting for it to go up.
We'll know more when planting plans come out but that's got nothing to do with Q1 earnings now, it's just about in the books now!
I look at the corn chart and the ethanol chart and keep thinking, that's incredible!
Funny how THAT didn't get mentioned in his post ;)
So add a few more lines to the list ...

Ethanol Futures Rise to Highest in Two Years on Logistics Jam
By Lucia Kassai Mar 20, 2014 2:58 PM CT
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-03-20/ethanol-futures-rise-to-highest-in-two-years-on-logistics-jam.html
Ethanol futures rose to the highest price in more than two years as another U.S. cold snap may worsen a shortage of rail cars for moving the product to the main consumer markets.
Denatured ethanol for April delivery gained 9.5 cents, or 3.5 percent, to settle at $2.801 a gallon on the Chicago Board of Trade, the most since Sept. 7, 2011.
A burst of cold, possibly accompanied by snow, is expected next week for parts of the Midwest, where most ethanol is produced, and the East Coast, the largest consuming region for the biofuel, AccuWeather Inc. said on its website. Low temperatures should persist at least into the first of April.
“There’s a stack of rail cars that can’t get to the plants,” Mark Ruyack, a manager at Starfuels Inc. in Jupiter, Florida, said. “The weather, the snow, that doesn’t help.”
Ethanol inventories on the U.S. East Coast fell to 4.5 million barrels last week, down 29 percent from a year earlier, Energy Information Administration data snow. That’s the lowest in records back to June 2010.
Gasoline for April delivery advanced 2.67 cents, or 0.9 percent, to $2.8955 a gallon on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The futures cover reformulated gasoline, made to be blended with ethanol before delivery to filling stations.
Ethanol futures’ discount to gasoline narrowed to 9.45 cents a gallon from 16.28 cents yesterday and 87.48 cents at the end of last year.
“Low inventories and logistical issues have kept destination pricing for ethanol elevated,” David Dunn, a Naples, Florida-based commodities analyst at brokerage firm Progressive Fuels Limited, said in a note to clients.
In cash trading, ethanol was up 10 cents to $4.10 a gallon in New York, 12.5 cents to $3.15 a gallon in Chicago, 7.5 cents to $3.875 on the Gulf Coast and 11.5 cents to $3.915 on the West Coast, data compiled by Bloomberg show.
The New York spot price was at a premium of $1.46 a gallon to RBOB in New York Harbor as of 2:14 p.m. The biofuel has been trading at a premium since Feb. 25.
Right! I noticed the author of the SA article was short GPRE so I thought I would just watch it's affect on the pps.
None!
Has anybody seen any numbers that cause them concern at all?
Every time I see the crush spread, or price/gallon, or whatever, I'm amazed.
I see corn go up and think hmmm, but then look at the ethanol price and it's up the same if not more.
I remember reading that $2/gallon is optimum for exporting and start wondering if we're priced out of that.
Then I read something about Brazil's drought again, and then about THEM importing.
I keep thinking I'm not seeing something and when I think of it, that number is better than I would have thought.
Hear about natural gas, nah, they don't use it for drying.
Not that I'm looking for a bad sounding number on anything but can someone think of one?
Ethanol Pares Largest Quarterly Gain Since 2010 as Output Drops
By Lucia Kassai March 17, 2014
http://www.businessweek.com/news/2014-03-17/ethanol-pares-largest-quarterly-gain-since-2010-on-output-cuts
...
Margins are rich after corn prices dropped 40 percent last year, and as Brazil, the world’s second-largest producer after the U.S., has been buying ethanol from the U.S. to meet domestic demand.
Brazil more than doubled imports to 9.88 million gallons in January, all of it from the U.S., data from Sao Paulo-based sugarcane industry Unica shows.
Growing Exports
“Exports have been soaking up the excess production in the U.S.,” Wilson said. “Brazil is importing, which generates demand for U.S. ethanol and at the same time reduces competition.”

Ethanol Prices Surge as Rail Problems Cut Supply

What about debt comparisons then and now?
Haven't looked but perhaps that has a bearing?
Article ends with "Demand is just so robust"
Winter rail traffic snarl jams ethanol plants, raises prices:

But beyond April, a larger question looms for the ethanol market. The typical winter slowdown gives markets a chance to build stocks ahead of the summer driving season, when rising gasoline demand leads to higher demand for ethanol blending.
"We didn't have any chance to build stocks this quarter, which leads us into summer driving season much tighter than last year and much tighter than most times in history," said Todd Becker, chief executive officer at Green Plains Renewable Energy Inc., an ethanol producer based in Omaha, Nebraska.
"Demand is just so robust," he said.
Yep, they're almost there ... ??
