Ola you and I have never been able to agree on much now have we.
To be Walnut!
Nope Sorry Bull..
"But you said someone that speeds on a public road, whether they get a ticket or not, is an "habitual offender" and therefore should not be allowed to own one."
I did not say that. My position is that once convicted of a felony because the laws change in the future and may no longer apply, a felon should not be absolved of that which you the felon was convicted for.
That is my position. GP didn't like my example of murder so I used traffic felonies as a substitute. If a speeder gets caught three times and then drives while suspended (in itself is enough) and is caught once again (that is 4 infractions) that person is a felon and looses the right to bear arms Period. That IS the law. My reference to habitual is the simple fact that you must have committed multiple infractions to become a traffic felon. Thus you are a habitual offender, A person with little or no regard for the people around them. What is your definition of habitual offender only the persons who gets caught?
And yes you would eliminate 90% of the people. But what does that say about 90% of the people. Because 90% of the people break the law makes it morally or ethically ok for you to do the same? Aww its just speeding right. What about that little girl that walks out from behind the parked car into the intersection and you cant break in time…Well it matters only after you hurt someone. Is that what you are saying? It’s just speeding everybody well 90% of the people do it. We flip the bird at the other 10%
I will be the first to admit that for just about 7 years I did not belong anywhere near a firearm. Are you man enough or have you yourself lived up to Mother Theresa standards all your life? I have never been arrested though. And when it got just that bad, I knew when to clean myself up. Thank God I had the option to do just that but being caught would have changed everything. The option would have been removed. Yes I would have to suffer the consequences for my actions. Even after 30 years. To say or think otherwise is pure hypocrisy.
Which leads me to this tripe...
"Do you wish that only the people that you like had the right to bear arms? Maybe only those that agree with you? Or maybe only those that don't speed on the public roads? Or how about the people that don't cut their grass regularly or have junky yards? Or those whose dogs run free once in a while?"
Attacking me does not refute the initial assertion; that even though laws may have changed and may no longer apply, previously convicted felons should not be exonerated of their past transgressions. It only serves to show your lack of rebut. I think all non-felons should have the privilege to bear arms until proven otherwise in a court of law, in which I based this scenario entirely upon.
Well that is why you feel you must refute my assertion, you do not agree. Still I have not heard a good argument against my position. Gp say if a citizen deserves to be exonerated and is able to show and prove it, than that person MIGHT be allowed their civil rights back. Ok, I see his point, in some very far and few circumstances this would be ok. I’m not qualified to judge. But following the existing laws once a felon, you are for life. It doesn’t make sense to relax the law for that felon and not the others.
If my contentions are so off base, why then the jumping of the hoops to regain your rights period? A couple of notes from your mother and a good friend and tada you have your rights back. No?
Idiotic? Well that a pretty harsh opinion now isn’t it. Twice you have lashed out at me and twice I responded with civility. Should I now say, “I think your inability to sustain a good argument is a sign of intellectual lack”…. Or are you going to do me the favor I afford you, and disagree with some courtesy.

Hey Colt what are doing up so Late?
To be Walnut!
Bullrider...
If that is how you want to view me. I own several guns and am leaving for a wild boar hunt shortly. I will be taking it with my legally owned pistol thank you very much. When I get back I plan on spending twice the time in the range with my .300 than I usually do. Alaska Caribou this fall and all that..
Habitual means repeat offenders...Ask you the same question I asked GP how many times have you received a traffic ticket for speeding versus the times you have not? You are a habitual offender weather caught in the act or not. Speeding laws save lives. Speeding is a crime against people. Get caught speeding three times in a year and Oregon takes your license for a six-month period and make you go to school. Drive while suspended is a felony on Oregon.
My comment was specifically related to felons and was clarified later thank you very much.
I support the second Amendment. Just not those that would abuse such a wonderful privilege.

OT: Not over not by a long shot. It was. But not now.
OT: Five e-mails to my wife’s work. Good Job OBG. What a man you are!
All I wanted was for you to change the Ibox…Simple enough request. And I asked politely. That was it and instead not only do you tell me to FO you get my wife in trouble at her work. You ever heard of monitored e-mail in corporations? Yes I know you have. Which is why you sent it ahole.
You done crossed the line. I angered you in a post you try and get my wife fired…Good man you are G.
All you had to do was ignore me and none of this would have happened I simply asked you to change the Ibox you low life piece of human waste. I never would have set foot on your precious barms board. You are a miserable human being.
That’s all you wanted right? Me to leave? And you accomplish this by attacking my wife at her work...You the man G you definitely the man! Your board will now know no rest.
To be Walnut!
OT: Well Ola if ONEBGG didnt just cause trouble at my wifes work than maybe it wouldn't.
Thanks OBG do you feel happy now? Did it make you feel good to go after my wife at her place of employment?
To be Walnut!
OT; No I am just anti people getting spouses fired at their jobs cause they can't deal with a situation, like a man with a sac between his legs..
ONEBGG cannot deal with me so he attacks my wife what a big man G. I understand why har went HAR to himself. Had to pat himself on the back for that act of maliciousness.
To be Walnut!
Yep when you cant deal with an issue on your own get somebodies wife fired.. You a real man G.
Instead of a smoking gun we have smoking e-mails.
You happy now? Did you get your revenge?
To be Walnut!
OLA.. Did you teach ONEBGG how to cause trouble at my wife’s place of employment as well. Maybe tomorrow he will just outright call the owners....
How would I destroy ONEBGGS credibility? Where is my reference to him in any of my hypotheticals? Just because the story I tell is true doesn’t mean that I am implying it is ONEBGG.. That would be legally dangerous and I'm not up on slandering people.
To be Walnut!
Well everybody it seems that ONEBGG's idea of not responding is e-mailing my wife at her work trying to get her fired...
You are a real grown up man G.
To be Walnut!
Gp.. Court Petition..DuH!
This person whom I'm speaking of petitioned the courts to have that persons record expunged of the traffic felony charge. The reason the law did no longer exist and that person had been a good citizen for 30 plus years afterwards..
I mean other Judges and police all wrote this person letters of defense of this persons exemplary behavior. Saying just how good and changed and no longer a threat to society this person was. (Even though riding in a car with that individual today gives the normal person a heart attack i.e. nothing has changed in regards to his automobile practices and how those practices might affect others)
So I guess yes there is a way short of Governor Pardon to have you felony removed. This person was denied on a technicality... the judge didn’t want to set president...in other words not politically benefiting. Thus the last option by this individual was a lawyer requesting a governor pardon in which the last time I had checked this individual had waited for a year with no response. But that was a year and a half ago. No governor pardons have been issued in Kitzhabers reign as governor here in Oregon.
See GP I see automobiles as far more dangerous than Guns. I believe you yourself quote the auto deaths versus the Gun deaths do you not? Cars affect people on a far greater scale and can cause by far more damage than guns do in today’s society. If someone is going to drive without insurance or while suspended do you really think they care about the people that they can potentially injure with an automobile? Is this in itself not a crime against people? In this sense I must discount that part of your opinion. I see a black and white line. Three driving while suspended gets you felony jail time.
To be Walnut!
OT: What G same ‘ ot HARRR!!!!’ In response to nobody message over at RB barms you laughing at my retaining wall damage...If so it makes you look foolish as it happened three years ago when we were friends. You that childish of a 45 year old?
Or is it about my lack of knowledge when it comes to executive decisions bypassing the governor to pardon felons?? Would you like to interject with your wealth of information regarding this subject? If I remember right you do have good reason to know these laws….
Either way the wall was fixed with a big fat insurance check and the information will be acquired by morning with all PUBLIC information gathered on whom if any has received one of these executive bypasses. I would like to know just how many this anti gun state has doled out. So I can protest through the proper channels.
To be Walnut!
I do not believe that here in Oregon we have the equivalent to an executive decision/order regarding the arbitrary reinstatement of civil rights short of a Governor pardon.
I could be wrong and will by all means look into this as I have good reason to do so.
To be Walnut!
GP.. Yes hypothetically..
No this does not have anything to do with you. Just your opinion. I do not know where you are getting that I meant you personally.
OK less dramatic an example. Vehicular destruction of property. as was done by car thefts that drove a stolen vehicle into my retaining wall causing 3000 worth of damage. Or drunken children with suspended license and no insurance running their car into a telephone pole. Being arrested and ran through the court system being labeled as felon…..
30 years from now the specific wordings gets changed making their offences no longer applicable to today’s law.
Should these people no longer be felons and receive the right to bear arms? Why because the law changed or because they served their time. A sentence with no limits....
I am asking you why you think they 'Could' be exonerated as you said.
What about drug dealers Specifically Pot growers that have no violent crimes against them just a little plant in the basement to make ends meet. We now legalized home growing for medical use with permit should we release the ones in prison and arm them? In a few years the laws could be gone all together this is a possibility and not far fetched. Do you release all previous convicts of said crime?
Am I not being Polite?

Hey Pre..Been talking with Turkey about 2003 Pronghorn..
Why don't you send him your e-mail address so we can coordinate this thing and put it to rest.... When we get back from California that is..

BTW GP, yes it does.
That what a pardon is all about... You are forgiven your trespass and reinstated full rights and privileges a respectable citizen affords..

gp100357....
"I would guess that if a law was passed subsequent to an offense, that made that offense a "non-offense" ... the person might be able to have their record expunged, and their conviction wiped clean."
Why simply because the law no longer exists? I do not understand? What about the punishment factor? The law while it existed was broken and punishment was handed out appropriate to the crime and in coherence with the existing codes.
Are you saying that if murder was to become legal, we should release the murderers previously incarcerated? Please explain?
BTW not a law reference, but a study of criminal behavior reference. I will dig it up if you like. I will just ask one question: for every speeding ticket you have received how many times have you not been caught? Habitual offender no?
To be Walnut!

I couldn't find the Maureen Dowd column so I posted the NY times. Hey you also have the ability to change the Ibox with pictures and stuff.
Have fun creating a wonderful discussion board.

Traffic felons are the worst. If they cannot even control themselves behind the wheel of a car than why should I as a citizen believe that they could control themselves around a firearm? It’s proven that people that get caught speeding are habitual offenders.
Once a criminal always a criminal. I know a felon that carries a bellyband with a loaded .357. That person with a vehicle broke the law as a youth but doesn’t think suffering the penalties 30 years later for these actions is fair. So now that person breaks even more laws out of spite.. What if the laws broken were later removed from the books? Does this now exonerate the otherwise previous felon of the previous guilt?
Is this the type of person who we want protected by the second amendment? Should this person ever be allowed the privilege to own a firearm? Remember any felony relieves you the right of gun ownership...
To be Walnut!
Hey K2 how you doing this afternoon? Can I buy you a beer over at the Bar?
To be Walnut!
A good start would to remove all the guns from felons don't you guys think. Even non-gun related non-violent felons. Once you break the law even as a stupid youth you should suffer the consequences don't you think? Oh this includes drugs. And these consequences should be almost draconian in method. The right to own a firearm should be held almost as sacred as the individual belief in a spiritual authority. (God)
Are there any childhood felons out there that want to sound off? Any felons that lost their right and have a (b-- oh excuse me dont want to get my post pulled) complaint about it.
I’ve never been arrested myself.
To be Walnut!
So ONEBGG two people have agreed with my request you going to do something about it?
To be Walnut!
Well get better man, this place needs your laughter. As for TV critic... I hear they get paid quite well.
To be Walnut!
I've been invited over by ONEBGG to come help spread the good word about guns and our second amendment.
Thanks ONEBGG. See I thought you'd be so little of an individual as to let our private affairs interfere with the whole Internet thing so I afforded you the courtesy of staying away from your thread. I'm so glad that you private e-mailed me telling me that you were bigger than that. You are right through all the years I’ve known you; I should have at least given you that. My bad.
Anyway thanks for the invite. I plan on sticking around and doing everything in my power to help promote the cause of our second amendment rights.

I was thinking an Elk Bugle when you first open the Board. Maybe some old jugs of wine and some wild game photos.
We have an absentee landlord the other managers should take requests. I know EE and Excel can change my Bible Ibox..So OBG must be able to change the swamp as well.
