Geez, sarals...
Now I know why California is referred to as "The People's Republic of Kalifornia" by a friend of mine who says he "escaped" to Arizona in the nick of time.
This is the result of liberal politics unchecked.
You have my sympathies.
sarals...are you in California? eom
I have to wonder just how the Dems are going to explain yesterday's meeting of 11 California Assembly members, broadcast over squawkboxes - inadvertantly - in which they discussed how to slow the economic recovery in California, in order to pass their 55% bill - the one that would require only a 55% majority to get a tax increase through. Yes, the Dems are your friends...just keep telling yourselves that.
What a joke...
Yes, Sox, it may be fun, but the fun ends when the proof is called for and the crickets chirp.
Yeah, OBG, I was in Missouri last week, thought I would die from the humidity. It was only 90, but there was NO breeze, and the humidity must have been 100%. It was AWFUL. The best part, though was the day it rained and turned cooler and drier. After that, it was magnificent.
Crank up the A/C (man, do I hope you have one!) and keep cool!
Fine, Sox...just been waaaaaaaay too busy, as always. Hot here in Texas, but that's the norm. I don't spend much time reading the constant Bush-bashing over here, not really interested in it, so I just lurk...and poke fun at some (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) posters when they leave such obvious openings.
Hi Big Guy! Well, as usual, busier than a one-armed paperhanger, but feelin' fine. Had a terrific family vacation, and have been trying to play catch-up @ work for the last week.
Hotter than Hades in Texas, but that's normal. Keeps me busy, watering my flowers and plants, every evening when I get home. Good exercise, too.
How you been?
Sox...
Only the non-believers don't get the "God-given rights" the rest of us enjoy.
Geez! YOu guys bored, or in your case fung has the heat gotten to your brain? Grub, schmub! LOL
this is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo wrong..............
Okay, I give up...what is a "grub"?? TIA
rudi/Carolyn....
Doc put me on a modified Atkins-type diet in April. I can have carbs - fruit and bread - but no processed sugar, no pasta, no rice, no potatoes. I'm down over 30 lbs. now.
This was to, hopefully, slow my decline into diabetes. Or, maybe, stop it dead in its tracks.
Anyway, it's easy to follow. Easier than Atkins, IMO, because I can have carbs.
I do miss ice cream, though, sigh.................
LOL, perhaps you should check out the dictionary from time to time...I believe the words "hypocritical", "vindictive", and even "twisted" might hold some special meaning for you, Miss K.
I'm glad I'm predictable, at least you'll not be surprised at my responses if you keep pushing the issue.
Oh, and I am a "Big Mama" no more. You'll have to dig up another insult.
Boy, ain't that the truth! eom
Double K......
A favor? For you? Not on your life, "Babe". LOL
Fine as frog's hair, sarals. And you?
sarals...yep, lie down with dogs..get up with fleas. Sheesh, I suppose it's too much to ask that politics be removed from...well, er...politics, isn't it?
Beautiful pics, husker.....
You're a fine photographer!
pre...
Maybe you and I have different dictionaries. I don't see anything about continued work in mine's definition of "retirement".
pre....
Well, you know what "they" say, right? The only constant is change. I suppose the campers have slipped away, one by one, till there's just a few of us left.
The job is great, amazing, fun, exhausting, challenging, and I'm very happy.
Yep, got your Texan story...very funny, btw.
Hi pre.....
Yep, we seem to have abandoned the old site, haven't we? I miss the good ol' days. Sigh.......
Where's this new PA board? eom
Well, Big Guy, I think you do a damned fine job. eom
sarals...
I've heard similar complaints before. I've always used DLJ (Harris) Direct. Never a problem in over 5 years.
Here's a link: http://www.harrisdirect.com/
Good for you, Big Guy!! An amazing accomplishment. My Dad went through some of what you are talking about, except for the antabuse part, and he's a recovering alcoholic.
He says the urge is always there, but the alternatives to being sober are not worth it any more.
I'm glad I never got addicted and never had to deal with that aspect.
God Bless You, friend!
Apparently, Mags...
Not half as much as you! Husker's right, you really need to sloooooooooooooow down.
All's well in Texas. I just hadn't heard from nyc in ages and was wondering what was up with him. Last I heard, the missus was expecting another little bundle. I sure hope all is well with them.
Good for you, Big Guy!!
Springboard for a Rant......
I grew up, surrounded by alcoholics - both parents and step-parents...drinking seemed the norm.
In High School, I drank... a lot... Our "poison" preference was Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill - anyone else remember that? LOL - and we could get it with alarming ease.
Being kids, we drank outside, in fields near the river and at homes when the parents were away. I cannot tell you how many times I woke up unable to clearly remember the night before's activities. Nowadays, that's frightening to recall. Then, it was just funny. I should also note I have never been hungover. That is not a good thing.
Anyway, I don't really remember when it happened but one day I just saw myself becoming my mother........and it wasn't a pretty sight. So, I quit..then and there, cold turkey.
Several of my friends never did learn, and some didn't make it to my age...some did, but have had a hard time, and more than one is a "resident of the State"...if ya know what I mean.
My point? Oh yeah, my point....what is it that makes some able to stop sliding down that slippery slope? Be it alcohol, drugs, whatever? I never knew until this past winter, when I met a most interesting man. He's a clinical psychologist, and he asserts that those who can't say "no" lack the internal "off" switch that those of us who have learned to say no have. They don't mind the out-of-control feeling they get when they are high/drunk, whereas people like me cannot stand feeling out-of-control in those situations.
Interesting, huh? And, don't get me wrong, I'm no prude. I have a blast at parties...I just do it without drinking. And, once in a while I'll have a drink myself. However, with my current health issues, even that is getting rarer and rarer.
Has anyone heard from nyc? eom
ncmark...?? eom
Castle....ROFLMAO!! eom
ncmark......
Thank you, and no need to leave. ONEBGG and I had a little chat, and he explained to me what was going on. He also asked me to stick around, so I guess if the board moderator says you are welcome, then you are welcome!
ONEBGG...
Here, here! She'll never be elected President. Not as long as the generation that survived Slick Willy's tenure is around to vote.
Sox...
Dude, two words....Anger Management......
Sox...man, deal with it, dude! It was like 30 years ago or something, right? Sheesh!! Let it go...purge...now breathe, maybe take a trip over to the Yoga board..
Ohhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Sox...
ROFL!! Bob Gibson-less?? Too funny, dude!
BTW, did you ever read my baseball memories on the Rant board? If you had, you'd know what a rabid fan my 70+ mother-in-law is and how she's sooooooo looking forward to our going to the game on July 10. She cracks me up. Yelling and screaming at the umpires for their bad (to her) calls, and cheering when the Cards do something right. I get so tickled at her.
Board......
I have been admonished, via a PM, by my dear friend, ONEBGG for my part in yesterday's exchange.
Perhaps, it was the heat of the moment, the horror of the scene still fresh in my mind, that made me especially sensitive to the remarks aimed in my direction.
Whatever the reason, ncmark and midas98 if I offended you I humbly and sincerely apologize. I intended no harm, and hold no ill will. I hope you accept my apology in the spirit in which it is given.
ONEBGG, I apologized already and will now be a lady of my word and take my leave. Enjoy yourself and take good care of you!
The rest of you, I owe less than my full attention, let alone an apology.
Sorry, Sox...mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. eom
midas...
You asked for thoughts...
I think your tagline is apt...
Alright, ncmark...
Fair enough. Your question was, "Should we require children to wear helmets, via a law, and why?" Not a direct quote, but in the interest of expedience I paraphrased.
The answers are/were yes and because a child is not wise enough, or well-informed enough, to make intelligent decisions about such things. They are also not autonomous. They do not live in a democracy. Their lives are dictated and they go where they are told, and they travel how they are told. It is for this reason that the laws should be in place.
Oozing? You bet your chair-sitter I am. Sorry if you find me intimidating.
ncmark...
This board is an open forum, it's also peopled with plenty of folks whom you are not fooling.
You came for a fight, bit off more than you could chew, and now are trying to play the victim.
No one buys your story.
Run along.
