Viv's Corner...
Hello to my fellow swampers, and dear friends...
A strange thing, this 'Net...we are caught in its webbing, never seeing one another and yet undeniably bound together.
Christmas is that time of year when I try to stop, from my holiday dashing, to reflect upon another year I've lived on this Earth.
And, I wonder.
Did I make a difference in a life? Perhaps I did, perhaps not. But, I certainly made some memories......
...Valentine's Day, and the proposal..my 'baby', shaking like a leaf (me too, as the camcorder will attest), as she whispered "yes"....
.....the hot, humid days of summer when my husband and I headed to the lake to fish, drink ice cold beer (or sometimes water), catch a few fish, and marvel at the sheer majesty of a Texas sunset....
Quality time with the man I love to deepen a love that knows no bounds.
........the chilly fall evening, when we traveled to visit family and attend a 50th wedding anniversary. The collage of pictures on the receiving table telling a story of an adventurous pair living life to the fullest...dancing with my son, watching my husband dance with his mother and godmother, laughing till my sides ache with family and friends of thirty plus years - the warmth of their company keeping the cold rain outside at bay.....
....the kid in the truck who slid, and slid, and rolled and flipped...right in front of me on the highway on the coldest rainiest morning I can remember...after freezing, and getting thoroughly soaked, I convinced him to sit in my truck as we waited for the ambulance...I covered him with a blanket I carry, and told him to call his mom...(he was fine, btw, but the crash was truly spectacular)
...and, most recently, the friends who've lost those closest to them, and all I could do was cry with them...the courageous friend battling cancer, the stalwart family picking up the pieces after the fire, and the announcement that another friend's wife - who wasn't supposed to be able to - is having a baby....
It is all these things that fill my soul with joy, sorrow, and all those emotions in between. It makes me...me.
And, so, dear friends...may God Bless and Keep you in His care, and may this be your Merriest Christmas ever.
When it comes time, raise your glasses and toast the New Year, and enjoy every minute.
Yeah, ONEBGG, I saw it...that Judd's just a cruisin'......
Thanks, Buck... At least it happened BEFORE the holidays this time.
You know how every family has holiday traditions? In ours, it's "Vivian-gets-sick-as-a-dog". Usually right before, or right after Christmas...I can't tell you how many Christmas pictures have me looking like death warmed over. Hopefully, this bug will be outta here this week.
Hi Buck...
Spent the weekend sick, and so far as I can tell the week ain't lookin' too good either.
AHHHHHHHHH--CHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! 'scuse me....
You're right, pre...that wine was really good....hmm? What? You didn't get any of those cookies? JUDD!!!!!!!!!!!
husker and pre...
Yep, as a matter of fact I was. Can you smell them? Warm peanut-butter, right out of the oven.
Got milk?
Hi pre...
Did you bring wine? I'm so tired of drinkin' that cheap stuff Judd keeps buying.
A beautiful story, Castle. eom
Buck...
Right here. Where you been?
Simply awesome, Bruce. eom
Happy Thanksgiving, Swampers!! eom
AWESOME! Thank you!
Do you take requests? If so, I'd like to hear "At Last" by Etta James.
Thanks a bunch!!
Matt...
Please tell Bob I'm sorry to hear about his "length" problem.
Assure him, will you, that women don't really care about this sort of thing, okay?
Thanks a bunch!
(Disclaimer: the above was delivered with tongue securely placed in cheek)

He works in mysterious ways. Keep us updated when you can and know we're all praying for little Elijah.
nyc...
Don't forget something...the advances in modern medicine, especially in the area of cancer.
Leukemia is a tough bugger, but I've seen case after case of people beating it, sending it into remission, and living their lives cancer-free.
One thing Elijah definitely has going for him is his youth. It's easier for a baby to bounce back than an adult.
Still, it's a tough road ahead. Your friends will need all your support.
Good luck and God Bless.
Simply astonishing, amazing, and most of all appalling:

Intel Chair Roberts: Dem Memo May Have Compromised Terror War
Calling plans by Democrats on the Senate Intelligence Committee to politicize Iraq war intelligence "personally insulting" and "a slap in the face," Committee Chairman Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Ks., said late Tuesday that Democrat members of his panel may have compromised the global war on terrorism......

Buck...I've gotten used to the Splenda, and have begun to make cakes, pies, and some cookies (the ones that don't call for brown sugar) with it. It's great stuff.
The apple sounds good, I'll give it a try.
Yeah, Buck, but you're a guy...and no one really expects you to....
Buck, I got 100% on the first try, but it was NOT easy. And, now I'm cross-eyed...thanks a lot!
Yeah, Buck, I saw that. Ewwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!
Probably, bbgold! LOL...have a great day! eom
Actually, Buck..it's head was just a pile of mush, brains, blood, etc. One of the crew promptly hosed the deck off, so as not to increase the likelihood of more seasickness amongst the guests. LOL
Thanks, bbgold...
Too bad someone didn't tell Mr. Balding Fisherman that BEFORE I had to do the "toe dance". LOL
My one, and only, saltwater fish story.....
Having endured the 4 hours of seasickness that accompanied the long boat ride to the fishing "hole" in the Gulf, I was just getting my "sea legs" when the captain stopped for our first try at catching some of the fish feeding under our boat.
I was busy trying to a) hang on to the 47 lbs of rod/reel/bait I'd been given to fish with, whilst b) trying not to pitch over the side of the boat as it rocked, and rocked, and rocked in its own wake.
I was little aware, at first, of the commotion going on behind me....until I heard the word "SHARK!!" yelled...no, SCREAMED by another of the fishermen who had just pulled a small shark out of the water and it was currently thrashing about on the deck.
The captain, a kid about 10 yrs. my junior, jumped down off the fly-deck (?) and right in front of me, baseball bat in hand. The shark, bent on biting the foot off the bastid that had interrupted its otherwise idyllic existence, and failing that thought my feet looked mighty tasty, was inching closer to me as I backed to the railing. It was only the quick thinking, and accurate aim, of the captain that saved me from harm. The shark, its head now a pool of goo, was tossed overboard.
Afterwards, amidst rounds of applause and hearty "hail hero!" cheers from all of us, the captain flashed his perfectly beautiful smile in his perfectly tanned face, under his perfectly crystal blue eyes and sunbleached hair, tipped his cap to me, said "ma'am" and disappeared into the boat.
I rushed inside to tell my husband what had just happened, but he was completely incapacitated at that point by seasickness. I saved the story for later, when his feet hit dry land.
GrandpaBuck...
Nah, he's just bein' Husker.
Husker.....smart ass....
Yup!
What gibberish, Buck?
Seriously, I have noticed how shall we say "restrictive" the other boards have become.
Why the grub board, anyway?
