breast/ovarian cancer link
from msnbc.com
NEW YORK — Scientists reported Sunday that they have completed a major analysis of the genetics of breast cancer, finding four major classes of the disease. They hope their work will lead to more effective treatments, perhaps with some drugs already in use.
The new finding offers hints that one type of breast cancer might be vulnerable to drugs that already work against ovarian cancer.
The study, published online Sunday by the journal Nature, is the latest example of research into the biological details of tumors, rather than focusing primarily on where cancer arises in the body.
The hope is that such research can reveal cancer's genetic weaknesses for better drug targeting.
"With this study, we're one giant step closer to understanding the genetic origins of the four major subtypes of breast cancer," Dr. Matthew Ellis of the Washington University School of Medicine said in a statement. He is a co-leader of the research.
"Now we can investigate which drugs work best for patients based on the genetic profiles of their tumors," he said.
The researchers analyzed DNA of breast cancer tumors from 825 patients, looking for abnormalities. Altogether, they reported, breast cancers appear to fall into four main classes when viewed in this way.
One class showed similarities to ovarian cancers, suggesting it may be driven by similar biological developments.
"It's clear they are genetically more similar to ovarian tumors than to other breast cancers," Ellis said. "Whether they can be treated the same way is an intriguing possibility that needs to be explored."
The report is the latest from the Cancer Genome Atlas, a federally funded project that has produced similar analyses for brain, colorectal, lung, and ovarian cancers.
Why do you suppose the good doc's post, 11812 was deleted?
I'll have to agree....with our current cash position, 'whatever' can't be far away.
I suppose I’m neutral at best. I don’t put any stock (pun) in trading patterns of Entremed. I think those who own an interest are pretty much resigned to ride it out. Those who don’t own an interest….just aren’t interested. I think the results of 2076’s trial are ok to good but not great. I think there’s a chance that someone with deep enough pockets might take an interest….but I believe that it is just as likely that no one will.
I’m one of those who’re resigned to ride it out.
I am so sorry Ken.
In my opinion, the only news that will move this equity will be news of a revenue source. Good results from PII does not assure any income.
a clear view as to whom it's working for
I thought that's what they were doing. They had determined a number of moa's including the flt3 mutation that occurs, as I recall, in about 20% of ovarian cancer patients. My sense was that identifying the flt3 mutation was doable which would allow screening for those patients who would likely benefit.
Again, this is just my memory of our history.
Xalkori approved w/3 - 5% patients
It looks like it was approved w/PII studies only.
$9600/mo cost.

It appears, once again, that we are moderatorless.
I hope it works out for you T-bo. Kauai is one of the most magnificent places on the planet....in my limited experience. It seems pretty close to paradise, in my opinion.
It sounds as though you've abandoned paradise T-bo. I hope it is for a happy reason.
There is hiking and champagne in our week.
Regards
Am headed to your part of the world this week T-bo.
I'm disappointed that there won't be any excuse to get together for champagne.
Stock split? Insider buying? Oversold? It's quite clear, mellow that you are new to Entremed.
This isn't the first time outside investors have bought in at multimillion dollar levels. Each time the thinking was the same. If good news wasn't upcoming why would an investor group buy in? And in every case in the past we've been disappointed.
So mellow, don't be surprised if your post doesn't get any 'high fives'.
We all hope there's good reason YA Global took the risk but we've been down this road waaaayyyy too many times to get excited.
Regards
It will be my first time there.
There's definitely going to be some hiking. The couple we are going with are serious hikers.....
Thanks for the advice.
I was beginning to think that you were the clown with the sticky keyboard on the Yahoo board. I'm glad to see that it isn't so.....
By the way, I'm going to be in your neck of the woods in late July. Kauai I believe. Maybe by then we'll have something to celebrate and I can pop over for champagne.
Dr. Steve continues to make sense on Yahoo
Finally.....
If my math works it would appear that slightly over 5% of the shares traded during the first two weeks of February were short sales. I don't have any reference, but that strikes me as a pretty high percentage. Manipulation?
As the matter of fact on the same day.
'Coincidence? I think not!' (Homer Simpson - associating the fact that there are 24 cans of beer in a case and 24 hours in a day)
Inside information…kind of reminds me of a story I heard years ago.
At a large gathering, a group of ‘good ol’ boys’ were talking. One says to another ‘I’m sorry to hear about your uncle’s barn burning down last night’. The second fellow says ‘Shhhhhhh!!!!....that’s tonight!’
Whenever I passed the computer today I’d take a look at the Entremed runup….and pretty much ignored my other investments. Lo and behold….at day’s end I took a broader look and one of my holdings, ZOLL, had a very nice day too…..not a champagne day but surely a Corona (or two) will do.
It's good to know that there's an underlying reason for this runup. For a while I was afraid it was those daytraders churning things up again.
It just shows what some idiots are willing to do.
Idiots...I agree. Much the same was done to Razor and turner...if I'm not mistaken. Even in those cases I didn't think it was proper.
Norman, to you and all the IH posters, lurkers....and even to the Yahooites...Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays...whichever suits you.
Reminds me of a fellow who said that one time he drew back to hit his wife. He said he didn’t see her for a few days. Then the swelling in his eyes subsided…..and he was able to see once again.
One rarely sees boogers, Ken.....but they're out there.
Put it in the microwave for a few seconds
Nooooooo.....
The liklihood of overheating it is high. If it's 'real' honey, that will denature the enzymes and other good stuff, plus spoil the taste. I put mine in a crockpot with a little water in the bottom (of the crockpot). I put a meat thermometer in the water and heat to about !00F. Then turn off the crockpot and let the honey cool gradually. VK is right though, properly 'cured' honey never spoils.
It's hard to know how the bees are doing at the moment. When it's cold outside they cluster in the hive to keep warm and will only come out when the temps get around 60F.
If you want to see something entertaining...I have a new website.

If you are curious about how a community got the name Booger Hill, the legend is in the 'About' section.
Ya think somebody knows more than us ?
I hate to sound pessimistic but.....how many times have we heard that?
My apologies. After rereading the press release....it looks like they have until Dec 31, 2011. So the Chinese deal looks like a non-event this year.
I imagine the next run up will be in anticipation of P2 news
Unless I'm mistaken, we are still awaiting closure on the Chinese deal by the end of December.
Weekend news? Nothing official but I'm thinking that this AM'a price tells the story. Plenty of ASH attendees had an opportunity to review the data this weekend.....and if that data had been exceptional many would surely have contacted brokers or been buying online.
We are also looking for some finalization of the China deal by the end of December. Then, hopefully, some preliminary PII results early in 2011.
So, is all of the runup related to the ASH conference? Maybe not.
Might the pps drop next week if the poster updates aren't exceptional....I'd guess so.
Actually we should see updated data at the conference. I believe that's much of the reason that we're trading so high. I think the feeling is if the abstract data are very good, then we can hope for even better data in the updates. I hope that is the case....but once again there seems to be that....exuberance that has resulted in disappointment in the past.
We will know soon.
Is anything new expected at the December 4 meeting?
Notta, I'm guessing that much of the runup during the past few days is in anticipation of the ASH posters. We've seen this any number of times. Once again, I would caution, do not expect pII results from a pI study. If we get anywhere near $10 this week, I think I'll sell, then buy back after the meeting.
Regards
Glad to hear that your luck continues Lemron.
Hoping for a wonderful holiday season to you as well as all the folks on this board.
Regards
Good job trying to promote some conversation here
Truth be told, in my opinion, there isn’t much to say. We’re all pretty much at the mercy of December and early 2011 reports. Lord knows we don’t need the mindless chatter that goes on over at Yahoo.
Having said that, I must admit that I’m so spent with Entremed I’ve nearly thrown in the towel several times over the past few months. The only reason I hang on is that the remaining value is so paltry that I just can’t make myself do it. I’ve gotten this uneasy feeling that the air is slowly leaking from the 2076 balloon and no amount of pumping by you-know-who can keep it inflated.
Sorry to be so gloomy…..it’s just a funk I’ll surely shake once the ‘great’ news is released.
From the PI report.
3307 A Phase I Study of ENMD-2076 In Patients with Relapsed or Refractory Leukemia
The recommended phase two dose (RPTD) is 225 mg/day.
I thought all of the patients were reduced to 275mg/day.
There’s surely more to this story as well.
Doubt we would git much in royalties
In our present condition it doesn't take much to keep us running.....
Am I wrong to assume that the road to approval in China is shorter? Purely speculation on my part. But, if so, wouldn't this lead to a revenue stream faster?
It would appear that they're 'shooting up here amongst us'.....so maybe some sort of relief is forthcoming....even if it only results in us being put out of our misery.
