There are several avenues for possible escrow payouts. Ron and others have opined.
The amounts over time could be enormous.
Lets get the Libor done first...the investment of a lifetime IMO.
BP posters believe 400b Libor suit may be settled for 100b.
JPM BOA would be smart to do that or risk paying 400b if it goes to trial, maybe even more.
So if they were to settle for 100b, the majority would go to the Wamu estate, aka, us.
I believe bops guesstimate is 8-12 par returning.
While that would be great, I think in actuality it will be more in line with hold2wms guess of just 1 par returning from Libor in the settlement.
But 1 par is 10b, not too bad. That would likely allow the receivership to close which will create the big money waterfall.
At this point it is all conjecture but Libor ongoing is fact that cant be denied. That could happen any time between now and the 4/4 deadline for discovery.
Even 1 par gives Ps 1k ea and commons 2 bucks. Not exactly chump change.

Libor discovery due 4/4. I say settlement will happen well before that. Why put all the work into discovery and then likely pay a much larger amount.
They could wait till 4/4 to offer settlement to hold the money as long as possible. JPM BOA must pay either way.
Now, Chase has 33 trillion in assets, this from a friend who works there. So is 100B to settle Libor a big deal for them? Not hardly.
Does it have 3% fees on balance transfers though? Most do. Amex has a good one now too.

Rates ARE the issue. I have many realtor friends and they say people got spoiled with 3% rates and now balk at 6-7%, which makes mortgage payments MUCH higher for middle classers struggling to survive with all the soaring costs of life. Everyone is waiting for rates to come down more. Also, those who have 2-3% mortgages don't want to sell and go into another mortgage with a higher rate now.
If rates come down to 4-5% we could see greater activity. But for now, not so much when food and gas and other costs are so high.
People cant afford to buy a house now in this terrible economy. Interest rates have killed real estate. Thats the problem. Talk to any realtor in the country. Its dead.
I must say this is the first year where I felt truly optimistic about something coming to escrows.
If so I will load my IRA with COOP shares because the new administration next election will have this housing market booming. The doom and gloom of the worlds economy comes to an end in Nov.

I expect 2024 to be very big for escrows and COOP.
Why? The FED needs to pump liquidity into the market so Wamu escrows pumping billions into the economy will give it a big shot in the arm.
Mortgage rates will start to edge down because the markets want the current administration to stay in power....and need to get the economy moving going into elections.
While there will also be turmoil I dont ascribe to the doomsday soothsayers.
Once escrows get the first salvo from Libor, the waterfall floodgates will open.
So dont worry. We may be very close to money finally coming.
I may be wrong but my gut tells me the R is close to closing.

It fits with bops prediction. So it could be nothing, or just coincidences. I just think its worth pointing out so escrow people can be watchful. Check your credit lines, credit card offers, wealth management and sweep account offers, etc.

I have been in touch with others who have had similar recent credit offerings.
Could be a coincidence. But why all of a sudden? And why has my bank suddenly inflated my annual income by 5x. I thought that was very strange because they know what my income is. A mistake? Maybe.
Bop talked about receiving credit offers in advance of disbursements to escrow holders several months ago. I didnt think about it at the time. But now her prediction may be making some sense.
She said credit offers and loans would be how brokers and banks would make money from this.
So for instance, they do all they can to get our business now. Say, Capital One offers you a zero percent card and you take them up on it. Then in 4 months there is a Libor settlement and you get a windfall. You may say, they were good to me back before I had this money, so now Im going to deposit 250k in their bank because I like the way they do business. Good will.
Plus, if you take out loans against the funds in your account, you avoid taxes you wouldve incurred had you withdrawn the funds from your escrows IRA.
So many ways to look at this.
Lets see if escrowers start to get more offers. Of course many dont like to talk about their private finances online, and thats understandable in these days of rampant hacking.
Be Very careful. IF money comes keep it private. 250k per account is max for FDIC insurance, so a sweep account may be wise to spread out your funds among several banks. Get a financial planner and the best tax person you can find.

COOP rising due in large part to 2.5% coming to them IMO. Not sure if they get a piece of Libor though. But once Libor is settled the waterfall could be very substantial.
Still puzzled by the proposed sweep account offers, zero % credit cards, inflated income estimates, and expanded credit line amounts.

Whether or not you believe in assets, bank payment, DCR, etc., you have to believe that the ongoing LIBOR case is real. Why? Because it is! Once settlement is completed the funds for WAMU get distributed to who? The estate. And who is the estate? Us!
So, is LIBOR real? Yes. The only unknown is how much and when. Nobody knows. But if JPM and BOA are smart they will settle, and that could be any time now.
