Foreign Brands Battle Counterfeiters in China - WSJ - By Kathy Chu
Thanks Diz.
Just now I feel disgusted. Yes, I'm long, but releasing this "evergreen" story at a time like this... I feel compelled to call it as I see it, a desperate attempt to get some notice!
Nuke missile crews burdened by old phone system
In a rare look inside America’s nuclear missile complex, 60 Minutes finds faulty phones and aging equipment...
Unfortunately it doesn't appear that the show will touch on the MDA's counterfeit parts problem...

Welcome back WT, Thanks for the post, nice find.

An Oregon defense contractor is under indictment for allegedly defrauding the military of at least $10.5 million by supplying counterfeit and defective truck and helicopter parts...

And in my opinion, if all goes as planned/hoped/expected within the next 3-4 weeks (MDA Grant, DLA Expansion, Finalization of DFARS 2012-D055, and our Quarterly Report) we could become a 2 Bit stock by the end of next month. Should that happen, I believe we'll be on-track to double again, to about .50 by Fiscal Year End on September 30th.
It's an ambitious projection and I've been wrong before, so do your own Due Diligence...
Aside from the potential application of our developing technology, much like the tons of raw cotton being marked, I found this to offer a few parallels regarding adoption of new rules.
Public Companies Fail in Dodd-Frank Compliance - EBN - Hailey Lynne McKeefry, Editor in Chief, 4/23/2014
Good guess I'd say. At least 2 companies given that it was pretty clear at the Workshop that no single solution would suffice for fear of it being compromised. So as to not put "all eggs into one basket" as I recall.
None that I'm aware of.
I just received CHASE slides from their 4/9-10 Workshop in a format that can't be posted but here's something relevant...
Not sure this means much but nice to know the Navy/Crane has been discussing counterfeit parts and impact of 2012 NDAA Sec 818. It's a short powerpoint presentation...

Counterfeit Electronic Parts Regulation Bogged Down - April 9, 2014 - By: Gabriela Urias

Hey mcs,
I couldn't find the post Re: the Crane Solicitation, but if I recall correctly they were looking to award $40K for someone to challenge our DNA technology. I thought the withdrawal was a sign they hadn't found any acceptable challengers...?
I'll Play A4L.

Looks to me like an ideal time to address DNA marking requirements...
If I had the funds I'd join you vans, short of that I will continue to hold. Our day will come IMO too.
Good one TCMB, Thanks. Appears they have not only acquired Premier but assumed their 3rd party agreement...
Sorry for the delay folks but in light of the recent activity and the prevailing upset we're all feeling, I found it very difficult to share the positive feelings and comments at the CHASE meeting last week. Nonetheless, here are some bullet points I believe are worthy of consideration.
-Barry Birdsong/MDA, We're dealing with a growing problem. We use over 650 suppliers who in turn rely on hundreds more. The Government moves extremely slow. Estimates are that there are 1700-3000 INDY suppliers in the IC market. MDA uses the Navy's CRANE facility to help evaluate new technologies. Believe a number of techniques must be considered so as not to put "all our eggs" into one basket, noting the dangers of any one which potentially could be compromised. Need "cheap, fast, on-site and simple" will not “mandate” and believe market competition is a good thing. We have been working on various methods to address the problem and will be issuing Phase II awards in May.
-Celia Merzbacher/SRA Risk Factors are up! Innovative Partnerships are needed more than ever...
-UCONN Numerous WIP, ie. PUFs, BISA, MICROSCOPY, XRAY, SHIELD/DARPA, and many other developing (future) technologies.
-DHS Everything is connected. Countermeasures not keeping pace with Counterfeits, Tainted (intentional or otherwise), and Defective parts.
-Steve Walters/Honeywell/SAE G19A More Lab tests have been used but more personnel training is needed.
Bill Eklow & Edna Conway/CISCO Has been at the forefront (having been burned before) at every node of the supply chain. Edna BTW is a super supply chain expert with advance degrees from… Colunbia, MIT, Stanford and Carnegie Mellon!
David Brown/Intel More “credible” traceability is needed". 60% of counterfeits are obsolete parts. Suggested that “Fitness for Use” be considered in the test evaluations.
Kristal Snyder/ERAI Critic of industry for not pulling together. Particularly critical of Lee Mathiesen/Lansdale for his comments stating “If you don’t want counterfeits the answer is simple, buy from authorized sources.
Doug Fosnaught/DLA The “Rapid Innovation” program has been evaluating numerous techniques. DNA was selected a couple of years ago as the best solution but its development and alternatives are part of our ongoing efforts.
Again, sorry for the delay and brevity but it’s all I can provide just now…
Sorry for the short sign-off yesterday mcs getting up pre-dawn, driving over 3 hours, and in a room with a couple hundred assorted PhDs and their candidates droning for hours, I was wiped. Today was better and I do have some observations to share, but nows not the time. Just got back, so tell the CO where to go.
I'll prepare something more cogent in the AM, let me just say APDN has many supporters and from my perspective a growing list willing to take on the likes of Lee Mathiesen/Lansdale (a long-time detractor of DNA marking) during the closing panel (4:20-6P). Great need to be proactive and stop dicken' around...
I'll be back.
Thanks macs. Spent some time with JM. She's charming, but doesn't go on til late tomorrow. Left early today (too much engineering speak, you would enjoy but way past my level), got up at 4ish to get here on time, no regrets but not accustomed to the hours. Time for a nap...
I'd say very cordial and upbeat. Glad I made the trek...
My guess, nothing official, between the MDA and 2012-D055 is that we have good news coming in May.
PS got a chance to meet Janice and Barry but obviously they couldn't share much more than pleasantries...
MDA phase I I awards scheduled for May per Barry Birdsong at CHASE Symposium this AM.
Thanks mcs. Here's something I came across supporting the problems, and perhaps delays the MDA is otherwise facing...
Not sure what you're referring to in your last couple of posts but you're welcome br.
Excellent post WT, thanks
It wouldn't be the first time we've been victim of timing. If I recall correctly the Doc had expected "equilibrium" by now, so yes I think that's part of it. I do, however, believe that when negotiating with the Government and other large organizations who look for competency and depth of a potential "partner", maybe it has its' advantages. We do have many irons in the fire and well on our way to more diversification, in our portfolio of patents and our client base. All in all, serious growing pains, but nothing (IMO) life threatening.
The DLA just released a notice that reads in part:
Thanks TCMB. I particularly like "MASSIVE" in the headline.
And while I'm at it, thanks to all for your contributions. If I thanked you each individually I wouldn't have any posts left for the day, what a great team!
Nice find A1M. Wish we had some numbers (Ha!) FYI... From Wiki:
Looks as if Zacks has downgraded from "Buy" to "Hold" as well...

I'm afraid we need something comparable to this...
