Couldn't agree with you more. It appears that in AI you have attempted to incorporate all the discussed moderfications. Most importantly the ability to back test these and optimise per input is supremely helpful.
Apart from the dissappointment that thus far I have not been able to get AI to work on my computer, something that I would very much like ( it gives an error upon launch ). All the discussions center around data points that are far apart i.e. day, week etc. One can get the same feel and faster feedback using closer data points i.e. 1hr., etc. Below 1hr. one encounters too much noise. I read that this data too is available free.
Does AI generate and plot a chart ? Have you or anyone else tried running AIM against renko etc. bars which give different picture of market action.
I encountered a trading software which relied on management to make it successful. Though only 1/3 of it's trades were winners, it,s management of them gave the software a positive expectancy. Now one of it's users coupled the software with range bars. In doing so he was seeing a different picture. His win % shot up ( shooting fish in a barrel was his description ) and coupled with the trade management this software offered his earnings were greater than others. A good trade management platform is a major positive. This management software is used by daytraders and long term investors. A good management software should be able to manage all scenereos irrespective of the data points choosen.
I have been going through the postings at this board from post number 1. At one time there was some lively discussions and suggestions to modify AIM, peoples ongoing experiences with AIM and AI. It all seems to have come to a comparative grinding hault. Whatever happened to those inventive group ?
Mark, The problem with screen shorts is that they are static and thus display only one error code at a time. I am getting way too many errors ( they may all point to the same source ) to keep doing that. There was a time in the past when I would not have heard of you or your software, progress ( internet ) made this both possiable and cheap. No more snail mail now tweets and video mail ?? I do not know the technicalities involved, I don't build cars just drive them.
Wish this site would progress to video attachments. Would make for a more enlightening and absorbing discussions. I was reading AI section from it's beginning. Seems many of the original thinkers and contributers have faded away.
But actually sending videos as attachments may or may not work.
I have used video attachments with emails before with no problems, some even sent to the Ukraine.
I hope this site had an eazy way of attaching a screen shot at the very least.
Aptus, yes I did sent video's ( 3 ) that showed the problems thst I was encountering. I have used this technique before and if worked fine. Much better than writing pages. It's a new thing with the advent of you tube.
With the amount of problems that I am having trying to use it, could it be a bad download ?
Futhermore 3 video's does hardly suffice to explain the innumerable possabilities of AI. My 10 day trial period is up and I haven't yet been able to get it to work. Don't know if it was a bad download or what. I sent video's with the problems occuring to support but haven't heard anything back. A complete and detailed series of videos posted on you tube would both provide a great service and boost sales. Maybe a long time and appreciative user might accept this assignment.
Mark, Video 2 & 3 play. Video 1 does not do anything and thus I am unable to view it's content.
Any AAI user, Are there any videos that teach one step by step how to use this software and all it's capabilities. I have just downloaded the trial version and am lost. Thanks.
Hello all, Can anyone suggest a software that can scan the stock list and display
1. stocks at or near their 52 week low
2. the mean % difference.
as per pre specified inputs.
I hope that such a creature exist.
Thanks.
Hello All, Has anyone here used AIM with
1. Range, renko, point and figure etc. type of charts and with what effect.
2. With real time data.
Thanks.
I threw that question of narrowing our settings because my trades have been sparse lately and the market seems to be sitting in a narrow range.
Adam, If action is what you want, suscribe to tic data. You will definately get all the action you want at one level or another.
I have noticed that one gets thight sideways market just prior to a breakout one side or the other.
Hi Adam, Thank you for your reply. What was your criteria for filtering your entry.Thanks.
Hi Mark,
1.Can AAI work of minute data.
2.Search for stocks at or near their 52 wk highs/lows.
3. How about LEAP information.
Thanks.
Hi Adam, Plz help me understand.
1. Why did you AIM LEAPS any differently to AIMing anything else. AIM likes volatility so why did you choose a non volatile stock to LEAP.
2. You do not have to loose all your money in LEAPS. If , say, after a year, stock has not appreciated you could sell out or roll your LEAP.
3. With LEAPS your risk exposure could be less for the same returns.
Ocroft with his system may be on to something as far as choosing and entering stocks go. Could be futher improved by adding LEAPS and ensuring the corrosponding stocks have a high beta. Only some backing testing will verify this.
Hello ocroft, S&P A+ rated stocks should have corrosponding 2 year LEAPS. Using your system switch instead from stocks to LEAPS (preferably out of the money ) and run your back test. Do hope your software can perform backtest easily. For one the risk factor should improve as you will have less invested for the amount of shares. Diversity could also be improved.
If you do the back test plz do publish your results. Thanks.
Hello Conrad, I did some currency trading but did not enjoy the massive leverage - though the ride can be exciting. But without leverage I did not have the finances to trade this.
My observation was that if daily was sideways, dropping down in time I could find volatility. 1 min. had too much noise. I was on MT4 platform trading renko bars. Renko gives beautiful easy to trade charts, none of the confusion of h/l bars. A good Trade Management programs is the very essence of how one does in trading/investing. The concept of AIM appears to fit. Though like all things it could be tweaked to fit one's trading/investing style. But the Holy Grail is a good trade management program in order to do well either short term or long. I know of another trading program that takes a 25% system and makes it into a winning system by virtue of its trade management.
Have you tried managing smaller time frames with your Vortex. I hear you can get delayed minute data for free. For testing or for AIM use that is all ones need.
By whatif I mean, taking AIM BTB and adding other criteria to affect it's management to try to get better results ( monetery results )like ocroft is attempting to do.
Thanks for your replies. Now for a few follow-ups.
1. ocroft:- 90% success is terrific. How long do these take to go positive and what % of these go negative prior to reversing positive. How much analysis of these winners have you done.
2. ocroft:- How do you define the losers. How do you decide to cut them loose?
3:- ocroft:- Having not yet read the book; what is the criteria of the A+ stocks - value, growth etc..
-
Hello All, Thank you for all your ongoing postings and to Ocroft for initiating his interesting intetpretation to the AIM methodology. It took BowlerBob to put it all together and post it in a understandable way. Thanks. This has given rise in my mind to some related and unrelated questions which I hope to present succently.
1. Ocroft:- do you have any stats. on the performance of your A+ stocks after you method of entry. What % hae gone up, what % down and by how much etc. Overall what has been the resultant performance of your portfolio.
2.Ocroft :- what is your lookback period for your filtered entrance to find a high, since a recent high could be a retraction in a long term decline.
3. All :- Is anyone AIMing using LEAPS instead and with what results.
4. All :- Since AIM is a trade management system and is partial to volatility; volatility exist on different levels of time. Is anyone using AIM on a 30min., 1Hr. etc. scale. Has anyone used it or even done a whatif backtesting.
Thanks to all for your input.
