Indy/Weac- Getting Along.
>>"Sassy told me this would happen, and was right."<<
In the year or so I've been reading her posts she has been right about a lot of stuff. I especially recall her position regadrding the Bush tax cut.
She may not dissect, analyze, and conceptualize every minute detail, from sentence structure to ideology, but her grasp of the results of the, "if then function", in geopolitical and socioeconomic circumstances has been fairly accurate. Some people are masters of dissecting the past and shoulda, coulda woulda, others have an ability to conclude, if I take THIS action THEN I can expect x as the most likely result. Varibales not included.
I am blushing !!! I am also deeply honored and moved by your kind comments. Thank you, sir.
spalz/Re: Sassy's blatent bias
LibraryCop never flamed anyone unless he was flamed first. I have the same policy.
That may be one of the funniest things you have ever said. You both have been known to throw the first flame.
(sassy)You never, NEVER get so personal or low life as to tell someone they wish their son to leave home. That is disgusting.
(spalz) I stand behind my statement.
When you grow up, you may understand.
spalz/Re: Sassy's blatent bias
And does she owe me an apology for telling me to "go fuck myself"?
IMHO, No. What you said was the worst thing that someone could say to a mother or father. You really crossed a line and you should apologize. I always thought that there was a difference between you and Libray Cop - you could carry on an intelligent discussion without the insults. In the past few months, however, you have changed.
I have been told many times to go fuck myself - it is all in the game here. You always hate when someone brings up your age - well here, buddy, it shows. You are immature and it is time to grow up. You never, NEVER get so personal or low life as to tell someone they wish their son to leave home. That is disgusting.
Meme - being around
See that, it's 6:45 in the evening here, and I'm just able to get back to you! Yes, I've got the access at work! Yippee, but it's been incredibly busy.
I know what you mean - I try to communicate with everyone when I am in the office, but have so much work, it can be difficult. In fact, I spent way too much time on line yesterday.
Did you know that there are two types of EPS files, bitmap and vector?
I didn't even know that there was one type of EPS file. LOL
So how was your day? Shall you be on board tomorrow? Do you have more traveling to do? How do you feel about traveling now?
My day was busy, but good. Had dinner last night with a friend of mine - it is good to laugh now. I will try to be on line today, but do have some things that must be done.
I was in LA for a few days this week so, yes, I do intend on continuing to travel like I do. I must for my job, and I love my job, so plan to do what I have been doing. I am a firm believer in fate - when it is my time to go, there is nothing I can do about it.
Even though the new "security" measures are nothing more than window dressing, I don't think anything is going to happen with our airlines at this time. These bastards are evil, and know that we are on high alert with the planes. No, they will try something else again.
Sounds like the new job is keeping you on your toes. But I have a feeling that you like it that way - have you gotten out your whip and beaten the office into submission yet? <VBG>
WEAC - A Friendly Word of Advice
I know what you are trying to do here, and I appreciate it. However, a word of advice - don't waste your time.
I once tried to stop the bickering here, and it did not help. People are going to vent, and at times be malicious. It happens, or, more appropriately shit happens.
Thanks for trying, though.
And everyone else - leave him alone and quit insulting him.
Meme - Being around
No, no, no, sassy, not "shudder"...shiver, baby, shiver. <G>
Ooh, la, la, baby !!! How 'bout "Shake, Rattle, and Roll"? <g>
Nice to see you back. Are you going to be around much now?
No, not much. Here in the office today and tomorrow, though. Glad to see you here during the day. Got that Internet access at work, eh ? LOL.
Indy/Re Meme, Neuro, Dennis.
Sorry, one was all I could afford, but it's a really nice one.<G>
http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~brentor/louisxiv.html
LOL. I shudder what link you would have provided if she asked for sex <VEG> !!!!
I have been away for a few days, and glad of it. Hope things calm down, but doubt that will occur unless Spalz apologizes to Meme (which I believes he owes, but not holding my breath).
dennis/PI HAS NOT BEEN CANCELLED!
Frankly, I think he's not really worrying. I may be cyncial, but I think the son of a bitch knew exactly what he was doing when he issued one of his typical, sneering, almost-yelling whines. What I don't think he anticipated quite was the extent and vociferous nature of the response.
You're right, you are being cynical.
Even in context it was contemptible.
Poor choice of words, but not contemptible. In a way, he was very right in his statement. I don't know of too many people who would die for a cause like those men did. I abhor what they did, but face it - do you believe in anything so strongly as to give your life for? About the only thing I can think of is my family. And, in a way, we have taken the "easy" way out by launching cruise missiles thousands of miles away. His words have been taken out of context.
First of all, I find it interesting that on ALL FIVE NIGHTS, he neglected to mention until after the other guests were introduced the reason why the seat was being left empty.
He mentioned it at an appropriate time. When the hell other time would he mention it? Give the guy a break, Dennis.
Was PI REALLY Cancelled?
I was away for a company retreat for a few days and have missed the news. Was PI really cancelled based on Bill's comments on Monday? I had not watched his show for a while, but did tune in on Monday to watch. While he did not choose his words properly (no surprise there), I can't believe that people were finally able to pull the plug on it. Well, I guess we'll see. It should be on in a few minutes here - I just heard a promo for it - can someone give me an update?
mikkj/RE: Sassy - Welcome home!
Thanks - it is good to be home, albeit for a brief time.
PI is also broadcasting a new show this evening. There was an article in USA Today about it. On tomorrow's show, there is going to be am empty chair because Barbara Olson was scheduled to be a guest. I have not taped the show recently, but will tape tonights and tomorrow's show - it might be an indication of how people are beginning to heal.
Re:Meme - must be that time of the month
Wow, meme, a Socialist on PMS?? Does that mean that you want to share your mood with everyone? I think that makes you a Leftist Bitch !!! (Hell, even I will get out of the way for that) !!! <VBG>
I finally made it home - my first plane trip since Tuesday
As a seasoned traveller, I kept my chin held high as I boarded my plane home today. After my first flight was cancelled, I got a plane home this afternoon. I was kewl, nothing was going to bother me. I got on the plane and as we were taxi-ing on the runway, I realized that I wasn't breathing. I think it was about 20-30 seconds that I was in a sheer panic. But I just started to breath and everything was fine.
For those seconds (seemed much longer) I thought "What the hell am I doing - why am I in this job?" But then I thought about it longer - I love what I do and no asshole is going to prevent me from doing what I love. If I allowed that to happen, then the terrorist would win.
Landing in Pittsburgh was weird. PIT's airport is divided into two sections - airside and landside. No one but ticketed passengers are allowed in airside now. I was walking down the concourse to take the tram to landside and the aisles were open with few people.
Waiting for my ride (thankfully my sister needed my car last week so it was not parked at the airport where it may have been towed), I noticed several people hugging each other - and then hugging them again before they let go. It was quiet - even though there were many people being picked up. Will air travel ever be the same again?
The thing that bothered me the most is when I passed by the security check point (you can see it going down to baggage claim) There were about 4 people being scrutinized by security - luggage open and everything. Funny, but they were all black. Why? Is it because there were no Arabs around? I am ashamed.
We need to take control and be in charge, but not at the risk of biogry. I am disgusted by the Indian Sikh being murdered. I am fearful that this will not be the last tragic event.
There was a USAToday/CNN poll in the paper today. The thing that terrified me the most is that, of those polled, 58% of the people support "Special Security checks for Arabs, including US citizens, before boarding airplanes". 49% support "Special ID for Arabs, including US Citizens"
Haven't we learned anything from WWII? Do we really want the internment camps back?
grw5/TO ALL.. give this a look and pass it on...
thanks - some pretty poignant pictures.
I am still trying to digest the events of this week - I don't think I ever will.
BTW, it is good to see new people here like you and others. I don't know if the events of this week caused you to join in our discussions. But welcome.
Peace and safety.
Indy/Sassy- Re: What do we now?
>>"Would we differ from the terrorists who did this to us if we went and bombed their innocent civilians?"<<
IMHO. No. Just wealthier and better armed. Our intelligence community had bin Laden pinpointed last Dec. and Clinton elected not to take action as it would soon be someone elses problem. We gotta quit thinking like that.
That is not right. We would be no better than they, and would stoop to their level if we go and bomb innocent people. Yes, I have heard about how they place innocent civilians in their camps in order to prevent us from bombing.
We did not take out bin Laden before because I like to think that we are not barbarians and believe in placing a man on trial prior to their death.
The angry person in me wants to shoot the bastard. Believe me, I am feeling the effects of this weeks events in that I am not going home tomorrow as expected and will spend the weekend out of town. (don't want to deal with the airports just yet). But we should not go with some knee-jerk reaction. So many lives have been affected, our next step must be very cautious.
8th/Indy, What do we do now?
I don't know what to do next either. However, whatever we do, we better be right and right on target. Would we differ from the terrorists who did this to us if we went and bombed their innocent civilians?
meme/Holy Crap Hell Just Froze Over!
I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I agree with Neuro.
Ditto.
How one can say that only one side is culpable and one is the total victim is beyond me. A war does not last for hundreds of years without both sides being guilty.
But you just can't talk to some people.
It has been a surreal day
As I get ready for bed, I can only hope that today is like an episode of "Dallas" - that it was all a dream.
I pray for those who have been injured and for the families of those who have perished. Whomever is responsible for these acts will answer to a higher power than any of us and will perish in hell.
WEAC/Sassy/RE: Moral Equivalency
What I said is that they didn't start it - and neither did we. You can't play nice with people on jihad.
No, you can't play nice with the jihad, but you can't play nice with the Isreali army, either. This thing has been going on for a thousand years - who really knows who started it. Even if your statement was true, don't you think that someone could have ended it by now???
What I am saying is that I am really tired of everyone saying "Poor Isreal" - they fuel the fire like Palestine does. There is blame on both sides, why can't people see that?
I have no idea if this thing will ever end, or how to end it. I really feel sorry for both sides (at the same time being irritated at both of them). It is quite clear that the Arabs and Jews cannot live together, but does that mean the annihilation of one of them?
spalz/Justification for self-defense.
Of course such actions are justified. The Palestinians are at war with Israel and Israel is justified in doing whatever is necessary to defend itself.
I am not going to argue with you on this - when you can be a little more rational on this, call me.
spalz/Guilt and Innocence
When an aggressor attacks a victim, the aggressor is guilty and the defendant innocent. Israel is just as innocent if not more so than the US.
Puh-leeze. Both parties are at fault. Isreal is no more or less a victim than Palestine.
spalz/Indy, Thank You
Yes, In a sad sense I do derive some satisfaction knowing that now Americans can share the same feelings that the Israelies have been experiencing for years.
That is a pretty sick statement. Do you have any feelings for the innocent Palestininies who also have perished in this silly "holy war"?
As far as missle defense goes, one could say just the opposite. If the Pentagon had such a system set up, the damage might have been averted.
There is no missle defense system that could have averted this. It happened too fast - and was a commercial flight. No one saw this coming - I don't know who could have seen this coming. There was no defense system that could have prevented this.
WEAC/RE: Moral Equivalency
To these fanatics, our crime is our support of Israel. It IS the same war. Just like Israel, we didn't start it. And just like Israel, we have to start taking a hard line against it, or it'll only get worse.
Please don't tell me that you think Isreal is completely innocent in what has happened in the mid-east all of these years?
It is a shame and tragedy what has happened - innocent people on both sides have died, while the people in charge (i.e. Arafat and Sharon) live and incite the riot.
If it was Palestine who was responsible for this, they need to be punished. But, if we did not stick our nose in the mid-east affairs, maybe they would not retaliate against the US.
But let us not get ahead of ourselves. While claim may point to Ben Ladin, we thought the same thing after Oklahoma City.
spalz/Hmm...I wonder who it could be?
Indeed, that is horrible news. But it still does not justify the Isrealis from not allowing them to travel within their own country, or to be treated like second class citizens in their own country.
If, indeed, the Palestines are responsible for this unspeakable crime, then the US must seek them out and punish them accordingly. However, I can't help but think if not for the US sticking their nose where it doesn't belong and cater to Isreal, this tragedy (as well as many other tragedies) may not have occurred.
Indy/Neuro- Re: Game over America.
I truly am enjoying watching this administration wallow around in the quagmire they've created in thier attempt to pander to the conservative agenda.
Hey Indy, don't forget the compassionate side of the administration, too. Oh wait - they have forgotten how to be compassionate, so I guess it is OK for you to as well !!
Indy/Sassy- Re: Game over America.
Welcome back, gal. A week, naked in withdrawal? What, do you work for a Babtist minister?
LOL. Naw, nowhere near being a Baptist minister. Having too much fun on the job for religion to be involved !!!
Is Henry Kissinger a Murderer?
Don't know if anyone just saw this story on 60 Minutes, but here is the synopsis.
http://cbsnews.com/now/story/0,1597,309983-412,00.shtml
I don't believe that we should get involved in determining who should rule another country and it was a compelling story.
Indy/Re: Game over America
Thanks, that felt good, although I am sure that Clarence probably enjoyed it a bit too much.
How ya been? I was without my computer last week and felt absolutely naked. I was in withdrawl. Will try to catch up on the posts later.
Talk to you soon.
Meme/sassy
Thank god we know each other well enough for you to get my humor.
If I was ever offended by comments over my particular attributes, I would have been in therapy years ago.
Not too bad. I'm hitting up the St. John's Wort to combat a bit of depression. I know, I know, I shouldn't be depressed, but it's complicated. Email me or call, there's been one waiting for you.
I can give you my work number, too, if it's more convenient. It's a pity you weren't able to make it up here again this summer. You would have been a welcome pick-me-up.
Sorry you are down. I hope that you are feeling better soon. I'll try and call tomorrow night - it will give me something to do while in my hotel room.
I doubt I will make it to your neck of the woods anytime soon. This one project here in the MidWest has taken up ALL of my time. I am here every week.
Meme
Sweetie - we are online at the same time? A first in a while?
Thanks for the insult!!! I have to have something over you - give me that!!!
How are you girlfriend??
neuro/Sassy/Fiscal responsibility goes down the drain
Hey honey, you were the one who said you'd rather not have a tax cut. I simply challanged you to put your money where your huge horking mouth is. Apparently, you choose to spend it on your own political agenda.
Still hurling insults, sweetie? Is it that time of month? I have put my money where my mouth is - yes, on a my political agenda in an attempt to affect change. What did you do with your tax rebate? Spend money on your precious car in a failed attempt to pick up chicks?
Were you, in fact, judicious about your money then you would put the money in a Roth IRA or some other reasonable equity.
Have one since their inception. Already made my 2001 contribution anyway.
BTW, do you think putting that $300 would make my retirement?
meme/Sassy/Fiscal responsibility goes down the drain.
Honestly, I could show you how to move those big (ahem) pasties of yours. If you ascribed the chaos theory to them, mass and momentum and all, you could generate enough power to cool or actually heat the entire room...er board. <VBG>
LOL, but no lessons needed. After hauling these things around for years, I have learned how to move and shake them quite well !!! They are power - it is amazing what you can do with them and what you can get with them!!! <VBG>
Neuro/Fiscal responsibility goes down the drain.
The US Treasury accepts donations. Put your money where your big mouth is and send it back.
Big mouth? Wow, have someone disagree with you and you start right with the insults. (I have not had time to read all of the recent posts here - is this is what WEAC was talking about?)
Anyway, where I am sending it will be put to much better use.
A fool and her money are soon parted.
I am very judicious on where I send my money. I figure where I put it will preserve Social Security for me. I don't think that is a foolish way to spend it in the least.
Gee, what a boring life you must lead.
I wonder how many of Meme's lap dances that would buy?
LOL. Meme will be honored that you think of her that way. I hardly lead a boring life. But, as much as I love meme, it does not include lap dances !!! <VBG>
neuro/Fiscal responsibility goes down the drain.
So they are going to have to dip into SS to the tune of $9B. Would you prefer a smaller tax cut?
I would have preferred no tax cut.
BTW, have I told you how I intend to spend my tax check when it comes next month? I am donating it to Emily's List? (In case you don't know what Emily's List is - it is an organization that supports female, pro-choice, Democratic Senate candidates).
I figure it is the best way to spend $300.
meme/Fiscal responsibility goes down the drain.
And who did not see that coming? Aside from the Republican Party??
dennis/Ahem...Anyone here interested in nudes?
My, my, I think I have the vapors !!!
And to think that last week you were attempting to turn the firehoses on me and Indy !!! And we didn't show nuthin' !! <g>
Indy/Rattlesnake bites
Indy, I heard a report on NPR this morning concerning the upcoming rattlesnake season in Arizona and the lack of anti-venom available. It seems that the maker of the anti-venom (Wyeth Labs) no longer makes it. They are scurrying to get some new anti-venom from a lab in England, but they are concerned that it will be too little, too late.
So, be careful out there. Just remember, just because it rattles doesn't make it fun. But I am sure that you have been snake bitten before !!! <g>
Dennis/ Dennis Miller's zingers
I think that you are confusing Dennis Miller for George Carlin. Many of those sayings are attributed to George.
I do like Dennis' dry sense of humor, but George knocks me on the floor.
BTW, if you look in my profile, you will see that the first saying is listed as my favorite quote.
WEAC/Cocktails
Personally, I swear by Fosters and Cuervo - no training wheels of course.
What do you do, mix them together???? That would be the ultimate boilermaker.
Indy/Sassy-Re: Set our catcher free.
A little follow up to the DB catcher's problems.
I went to the Pirate game last night (the team sucks, but the new ballpark is absolutely gorgeous). My friend was telling me what she had heard about the incident.
Apparently this idiot tried to pick up a body-builder. When he hit her, she decked him. And to top it off (so to speak), the rumor is that she is gay. Talk about striking out !!!!
dennis/God, the Devil, and Bob" -- anyone ever seen it?
I did see it once. I believe that Alan Cummings was the voice of the devil (the guy who reprised Joel Grey's role in the revival of "Caberet")
I do remember reading something before the show went on the air. They said that Bob was to resemble Robert Downey, Jr, who was originially scheduled to be the voice of Bob. Unfortunatley, Robert heard a few voices of his own, and, well, you know the rest.
