WF,
Glad you got all set up. Happy trading! What stocks besides ADCT are you following right now?
Vic
Myst,
Help!! I had to restore WinXP tonight and when I clicked on my XDev button, it asked for my password and registration. Well I entered them and it is saying invalid. I then uninstalled and reinstalled from the link at the top and the same thing occured again.
How do I get back in the loop?
Thanks, Vic
Myst,
Do you have an anticipated release date for 4.0?
Are you planning on continuing free updates for current customers? I am especially interested in this since I just bought the current version.
Thanks, Vic
playtime,
for a shorter term play just shave the upper band down to 7 and use 9/1/03 for the start date and you get:
48.3% xdev
32.4% buy and hold
hope these are helpful, Vic
Playtime,
I am new to xdeving and not sure about the time frame you are looking for. This is what I come up with for a longer term play:
10,000
10.99
25%
11
11
25
25
9.5
1.5
time period 1/1/03 thru today's close
123.32% xdev
115.5% b/h
WDYT?
IB users,
I was wondering if, when your account is setup, you can transfer funds into your account from your bank electronically. You can to do this with Ameritrade. I would not like to wait several days for a check to clear or go to the expense of wires.
Thanks for any clarification, Vic
Myst,
Thanks for your replies. Yes, it was the portfolio amount. I have noticed on a couple prior occasions when playing with the backtesting if I used an incorrect date such as leaving the year field at 2004 instead of 2003 for example on one of the buys and then trying to sell the message would come up. I can understand that, because the program would try to sell shares not bought yet.
However, in the last case I mentioned that didn't happen. I will see if it occurs again and give you the exact particulars of the event.
Thanks again for your help, Vic
My results on backtesting,
I played four stocks, RFMD, BRCD, ADCT and RGLD using an imaginary portfolio value of 25,000 I increased it in a little over a year to 32,100 or over a 28% gain. Not to shabby considering RFMD lagged badly and RGLD basically broke even.
I would of thought I would of had more stellar results with the Nasdaq run of the past year, but I think it is more my stock selection than xdev. BRCD did supurb while the others dragged. Xdiv did a great job in catching tops and bottoms but the others didn't have enough volatility at my settings to make a difference.
Still, xdev did a great job compared to my actual results last year trading and I believe the long term holding thru short term trades will make me a more disciplined investor. :o)
Myst,
OK, I got the sale to take effect, but I had to shut xdev totally down and restart it to make the sale go thru. Seems like I shouldn't need to do that though.
Myst,
Here is another. The portfolio manager shows I have 320 shares of xyz held. I try to enter a sell for 183, and I get an error message saying "no enough shares to sell".
???????????????????
I guess that also means the portfolio manager wouldn't allow you to have negative shares if you tried to enter a short sell?
thanks, sorry I have so many questions tonight.
Myst,
Another question related to editing. Why are some fields blocked from making changes? For example the program will not allow me to edit a trade date. I hope your next version will allow one to edit any of the fields in their portfolio management. I don't see any real reason to block them.
Thanks again, Vic
Myst,
I am having a problem with the program. I don't know if it is a bug or if I am doing something incorrectly.
I am backtesting the program to see how it would of worked moving forward from Dec. 2002 to the present using setups I would of made and making adjustments as I move forward.
Anyway, I have noticed I have made some entry errors along the way in the portfolio manager. I have mistakenly left the default buy on when I meant to sell. Well, I have caught the errors, went back to delete the original transaction, but the shares remain in the account despite trying to delete them.
The only way I have been able to correct it is to write down all the trades in the stock in question and delete and rebuild the stock and trades from scratch.
Am I doing something wrong in trying to correct my errors, or is it the program? If it is the program, were you aware of this and planning a fix for it?
Also I am reading the old posts and have gotten up to February 2003. In January of last year there was a big bruhaha between you and some AIM fellow. I figure you remember it. Anyway some of the talk at the time involved questions regarding how the program would work and several posters, including Lou said they would give some results in about a year. Well the year is up and I would be interested in knowing how real life trading has worked out in your porfolio as well as some of the other posters.
I have mentioned Xdev to some posters on RB and Yahoo and have caught thier interest. I may have some customers coming to you if I can get them some success stories.
Thanks, I am enjoying playing with the program and have made my first trades in ADCT, RFMD and BMY. Instead of playing stocks I am playing options. Mostly long term leaps. Do you know how others have faired using this kind of approach? It isn't as exact as stocks but the leverage should take out the difference between lot sizes and a whole lot more I would imagine.
Myst,
Thanks. I am going to go on the assumption xdev is telling me to wait for some buyers to stabilize the stock and will look for other opportunities right now.
I just wanted to get your interpretation of what xdev is saying in that type of circumstance.
Myst,
I have a setup on CIEN, where xdev is telling me to start a postition at a higher price than the current price. Does this mean that I should wait and confirm a new upward trend is beginning, or does it mean the price dropped so extremely I should gobble it up at bargain prices?
Thanks!
Myst,
I agree with Jimbob 1x agp graphics processors were common on pentium II 300 meg processors and earlier.
Your system is to slow to keep up with the demands made by the card and could overheat your system. I'd look for a card compatable with 1X.
Sorry I can't help you further in this instance.
Vic
Also Myst,
What kind of computer does she have, and if I may ask, were you having problems which caused you to want to change the card in the first place? What type of operating system is she using?
All of those answers would be helpful in devising a solution.
Myst,
Have you tried putting the card in another slot?
Fuzz,
I would take a look at the link in the header for downloading version 3.0 and try that but substitute your version number in place of 3.0. Might be worth a shot until you hear from Myst.
gluck!
Myst,
Thanks again. Just trying to get a feel for what exactly you feel the program can and cannot do.
I appreciate the time you are spending with a neophyte xdever. I have read a few hundred posts, but there are a lot to go.
Sorry to be retracing what is probably very old ground for most posters here.
Vic
Thanks Myst,
I much appreciate your help. I have noticed that most of the stocks I have set up are pretty much fully invested with the runnup over the past few months. How long do these things usually take to resolve themselves?
From your experience, is this a contrary indicator and a sign of a market top?
I am now about 75% invested in RFMD and 80% invested in ATAR.
My thanks to whoever that was that suggested it. Sorry I don't remember!
I also was wondering when a trend change does develop, how you define it and to what extent, in time and in strategy, you suggest new optimizations. Also, do you have a rule of them how often to change the time view and reoptimize or should that only occur on trend changes?
Thanks again, Vic
Myst,
Another question for you, I have some duplicate symbols I created when playing with the system and have some others I would like to remove.
How may I go about deleting symbols from the left pane?
TIA, Vic
Myst,
Yeah, you gave me the setup a couple days ago. I entered a one quarter position at 9.78, so I am still 75% in cash. since it is totally invested is that why it shows zero shares to buy?
Does that mean I should enter the entire position now, or add another 25% now and wait for further price moves?
As you can tell I meant a buy not a sell in the previous post.
Thanks, Vic
never mind,
I read the answer.
thanks anyway
Question,
xdev says RFMD is a sell but shows zero shares. Is there a rule of thumb that most users use to decide during the current day if I should buy any or should I just wait for an xdev signal?
I notice in my optimizations that xdev rarely catches the bottom but is usually within a couple days of it, am I doing it wrong or is this a risk avoidance trait of the program?
Thanks in advance
Thanks Myst, I appreciate it!
your welcome, let me know if that fails to solve the problem and we can go from there.
Vic
uptime,
my command center is working without a problem. Do you have java downloaded? Not sure if it is imbedded in Mozilla or not, if you don't go to Sun's website and find the download.
Just a suggestion, Vic
ps-anyone have a good fix on setup for rfmd right now? thanks.
Myst,
Thanks Mozilla Firebird is fast! It even remembered my favorites from IE without me asking it to. To koul!
BTW, have had fun playing with my new toy x_dev today. I like the fact that you are here for us if we need you too.
What a great day for computing, now if the markets will co-operate.
You have had many suggestions on the software, I am sure, but let me add mine to those who would like to see options and shorting capabilities in the future. It would also be neat to make a version for daytrading. Possibly using streaming quotes from our brokers ala Medved does for its charts.
I am looking forward to the mechanical trading aspects of the current version!
Myst,
I got it, the program is installed, and I look forward to profiting from it.
Thanks for the quick response, it is greatly appreciated!
Myst,
I tried sending you an e-mail, this may work faster or a board member may be able to help out before I hear your response. I ordered x_dev this afternoon and mistakenly closed the download page after paying for it while trying to close my other windows. How can I do the download?
Thanks, and I look forward to being part of the werld!
