Susie,
The sad thing is always trying to outdo the Red Sox when there is no need to. That is Yankee arrogance and it is more than sad, it is a sickness.
Red Sox have a nation,
and now the Yankees are claiming the universe? To fricken funny!
And Yankee fans wonder why the Yankee arrogance is hated so much.
Trade Wells and Seanez
back to SD for Mirabelli, that would of basically cured just about all of the Red Sox loses, year to date.
Francona blew it,
first he burns his best two relievers for four innings, meaning he is going for it. He then (um how can I say this without offending Susie?? j/k) rips Foulke a new one by pulling him with a runner on first for Rudy Freakin Seanez who promply gives up a rope in the gap that even Troy Glaus could come around on from first base.
This coupled with the pathetic lineup he put out there for Wakes last start before this one should make him tear up his extension, for he certainly doesn't deserve it.
Jeesh, and it is only april.
Susie,
That was the first I heard. Manny seems to be fine.
excel,
I mean that Schilling shut them down. So he backed his talk up with a win. Kasmir did on his end. They both deserve props for the pitching jobs they did.
excel,
Well he did beat the Rays. Sure his talk was dumb, but, he backed it up on his end. Kasmir is a good young pitcher, if he keeps the slider in and works the fastball and offspeed stuff on the outside he will keep a lot of guys guessing. The Mets were nuts to trade him.
Why
does it seem like all of the drugged out ex-major leaguers find their way to Tampa? I feel sorry for them. They don't know how to live ordinary lives.
excel,
Just psychological warfare on a young kid. Schilling has said this year that he is trying to learn to pitch inside more.
The beanball battles go back to Tanyon Sturtze and Joe Kennedy, if not before. However it originally started, both teams have kept it going.
The fact that Schilling would imply that Red Sox pitchers deliberately hit Rays batters isn't to smart though. Big bad Watson already dislikes the Red Sox, this won't help when the next one happens.
Five more minor leaguers suspended for positive tests
April 18, 2006
NEW YORK (AP) -- Arizona Diamondbacks minor league pitcher Angel Rocha was suspended for 100 games Tuesday, the toughest penalty baseball has levied for a positive steroids test.
Rocha was suspended for 15 games last June 6.
"We understand and support the commissioner's policy on this matter, and agree with the importance and impact of the proper enforcement," Diamondbacks general manager Josh Byrnes said in a statement." We will continue to make education a top priority for our players at all levels of our system."
Four players were suspended for 50 games each for testing positive: Los Angeles Angels pitcher Karl Jelinas, New York Mets pitcher Jorge Reyes, St. Louis outfielder Yonathan Sivira and San Diego pitcher Matthew Varner.
The penalty for an initial positive test this year was increased from 15 games to 50 for players with minor league contracts, and the penalty for a second positive test rose from 30 games to 100.
For major leaguers, the punishment was lengthened from 10 days to 50 games -- but any test for major leaguers is treated as a first positive test.
There were 81 suspensions last season for violations of the minor league drug program, and four minor league pitchers were suspended last week.
Another thing to consider is that pitchers seem to be pitching to an older age. Is it because the supply of young pitching has been lacking, an abnormal amount of injuries to young pitchers or just some sort of cycle? To answer that I would guess one would need to know how the average age of pitchers in the majors has changed over the last few years, if at all. One would also need to know how home runs were hit over the distribution of ages as well.
I just wonder if we have been in a time where pitching has aged and weakened naturally verses batters or not.
The last couple of years have seen some new blood begin to emerge and there is more interest in developing and keeping young pitchers so perhaps a new age cycle is on the verge of beginning.
With all of the stats these days it seems to be getting more complicated, not less to evaluate talent.
Why Bowden made stupid trades:

Bull,
Perhaps there were more pitchers on the juice than hitters.
Susie,
Yes, you are right, fruedian slip. :)
excel,
Yep, Varitek should of been out. I just watched the replay after getting back from the Rays game. Fortunately Boston won anyway.
My apologies if the word I used to describe Giambi is innapropriate to this board. I did use an asterick and we know how important that is to the subject we are discussing. ;)
Susie,
Well I am sorry if I offended you, but he is what he is.
Win, Lose or Draw
If you don't understand why your comment was offensive, especially during Holy Week, well I don't think I can explain it in a way you would understand.
Happy Easter "He is risen".
"There's more hypocrisy around this issue than at a Baptist convention on Gay Rights."
That was totally uncalled for.
because it would kill Steinbrenner?
Susie,
You don't remember the days of Reggie, Thurman, Nettles and Chambliss going at it with Bill Lee, Carlton Fisk, et al?
Of course Reggie was going at it with Billy Martin who was going at with Steinbrenner, too.
This why I hate Reggie Jackson
If the Red Sox were in last place, the rivalry would go away. We don't enjoy crushing bad teams."
He is a pompous ignorant man, just like Joe Morgan. Someone please tell Mr. Jackson that the rivalry between New York and Boston goes back to the early days of America, before baseball. Two young cities trying to become the dominant port, two young cities laying claim as to why they should be the capital of a fledling new country, two cities with thinkers who were trying to shape the philosophy of a new nation.
Not to mention that, in baseball, each team has stunk at times and yet the rivalry survived. Just another Yankee lackey trying to put down the Red Sox.
I was speaking of the State of Florida,
not the Marlins. I can see where you might take it that way though since I used the plural. But that in and of itself does not mean the Marlins need a dome.
My point was the heat and the humidity. As I stated, if all night games were played there wouldn't be many rainouts. Most rains (other than hurricanes) are of the Ocean Breeze convection variety that come, rain hard, and dissipate quickly in the morning or afternoon, depending on where in the state you are.
In any event, I don't want to pay for either team, or any team to have a stadium built with public funds.
So you see, I really only have one opinion. As far as other places, sure they get hot, they just don't stay that way the way Florida does. They get breaks from cold fronts, we don't, at least not from May thru October.
Um, Pardon me,
I never said the Marlins need a dome, I said I am glad the Devil Rays have one.
Lang,
Sorry I didn't get back to you last night. I hit my quota of posts yesterday. LOL
Heat and Humidity play a big part of Florida life. It isn't only the rainouts but the day in and day out wearing that it does. You just don't get a break from May thru October.
It wears on your stamina. I know what I am talking about, I have lived here most of my working life.
I can't speak for the Marlins, and if they get public financing it better come from Broward and Dade counties, because I don't want it to come out of my pocket. I am against public funding for any of these billionares. I also can't speak to how many rainouts they have had since I have never been to one of their games.
I can speak to Tampa though. Central and North Central Florida get almost daily rains during those months. Playing all night games would help with the rainfall, but you would still be dealing with the heat and humidity. They are equal factors in why there should be domed stadiums in Florida.
Jarsh,
I went the opposite direction, once I heard Joe Morgan I switched to the poorer visuals and even the Canadian broadcasters of mlb.tv
Concerning Florida rainouts: The reason there are not a lot of rainouts in Florida is because the Drays have a covered dome. I can't speak about the Marlins and how they do things as I have never been to one of their games. St. Pete is a two hour drive as it is. Fort Lauderdale/Miami is about five hours, to far for me to go.
Did I say,
David Wells svcks? He is throwing 82-85 mph batting practice pitches.
Why would you put Boston and New York with Toronto and Milwauee? If anything they should be with Philidelphia and Baltimore or Pittsburgh.
If it were really feasible to do a wholesale reallignment it would be better to realign by types of markets rather than geographical location, although they are not necessarily mutually exclusive.
If you did that, a big market division that would make sense might be: Red Sox, Yankees, Mets, White Sox and Cubs.
On the other end of the financial spectrum: Marlins, Devil Rays, Braves, Pirates and Brewers.
At least they would be divisionally competitive.
Exactly,
That is my point, he is a selfish pr*ck. He put himself ahead of the team.
Unfortunately, almost all of today's players are that way. They don't view teamwork as a virtue, just some BS they learned in Little League.
The few exceptions are a joy to behold. He just went over and beyond last year. Boston fans don't care for that, which is probably why he wanted to be traded.
He won 15 games for us last year so I should like him too, but I don't. He forced himself to be able to pitch before he was ready last year, putting his appearance bonus ahead of the team.
At least this year he did go down to the minors for a rehab. But only because the Sox told him he wouldn't start until today. I hope he is ready and able to win, because of his stunt last year the Yankees caught and tied us for the division. His year in Boston won't be fun if he doesn't start the season strong.
Susie,
Sorry, thought you knew! Red Sox are playing on ESPN2 tonight if you want to see Blubber Wells again. I hope he does well so we can trade him!
Chapter, the Red Sox are my team. I just support the Devil Rays so I have an opportunity for Red Sox tickets every year!
Oh by the way, Florida needs domed stadiums, you must of forgotten that the summer is the rainy season. It is also to hot and humid to be outside for long. I am glad they have a roof and air conditioning.
Yep,
I was pretty close. I hit 50 in February. Nice to see you are so young. :)
If you want an honest answer,
judging by what you said about your son, I'm guessing somewhere around Bull, HHL and my age.
Susie,
Well, technically I was incorrect. Wasn't New Amsterdam just Manhattan?
They are doing some thing right,
they just need to up the budget and get some pitching. I talked to my ticket rep and he stated they have sold more packages this year than the last two years put together.
That is good and bad. Last year my games were behind home plate, this year they are still lower boxes, but stretch as far as the bullpens, depending on the game.
It will be exciting to see more folks there for the games though.
Susie,
See July 9th. ;o)
excel,
Just ordered tickets to ten Rays games:
4/29 Boston
5/13 Toronto
6/24 Atlanta
7/04 Boston
7/09 New Amsterdam
7/26 California
8/06 Boston
8/19 Cleveland
9/02 Seattle
9/09 Oakland
I love the free parking and ability to bring food to the park. They are really becoming fan friendly. It would be nice to see some of the other teams take similar initiatives.
A GM??
Wow, and you look so young in your pictures. ;o)
The Red Sox meanwhile are in trouble, no I don't mean the injuries to Trot and Coco, I mean big trouble....
Boomer is pitching for us today.
Susie,
I didn't know your son plays minor league ball. Who is he with?
Four minor-leaguers suspended for drug violationsAssociated Press
NEW YORK -- Four minor-league pitchers were suspended 50 games each by the commissioner's office Tuesday for violating baseball's minor-league drug program, the first penalties since the sport toughened its rules during the offseason.
Two of the pitchers were in the Cincinnati Reds' organization: Ramon Ramirez and Justin Mallet. Also suspended were Waner Mateo of the New York Mets and Ryan Rafferty of the Kansas City Royals.
None has ever pitched in the majors.
Mallet was penalized for testing positive for a drug of abuse. The others tested positive for performance-enhancing substances.
The penalty this year for an initial positive test was increased from 15 games to 50 for players with minor-league contracts. For major-leaguers, the punishment was lengthened from 10 days to 50 games.
There were 81 suspensions last season for violations of the minor-league drug program.
Bill,
Sorry, we kept Bronson under wraps as long as we could and we would of rather had Dunn or Kearns than WMP.
We tried.
