Thank you for your reply.
DFA means designated for assignment. I think a lot of Yankee fans would like to see him go. We feel much the same about Rudy Seanez, especially with all the young arms we have in the minors about ready for the show.
As for the grand slam, hence the wording "wouldabeen".
I appreciate your response.
The Red Sox have been playing horribly the past two weeks, I think they needed to play the Yankees to get focused again. That is something both teams benefit from. I have seen it from the Yankee side too.
Now isn't this much more pleasant and actually on topic? I think so.
Well we agree
about copy posts from other boards. Now Susie is doing it. She still refuses to answer the legit questions I put to her about last nights game. [edit:she answered]
Let's keep it to baseball and we will be about reality.
I liked the Yankees as a kid, it was Munson, Nettles, Hunter, Jackson, Rivers and Chambliss that turned me against them.
I gave Jeter props on the day he flew into the stands and condemned Nomar while he sulked on the bench. I have also given props to Bernie and Fruitbat, so, I wouldn't say it has been all negative.
As has been said before, great players (and teams) get booed, not the bad ones. I also pick on the Yankees because there aren't many Jays or Orioles fans to compete with.
I pull for Tampa when they aren't playing Boston, because I want a viable, strong franchise down here to watch the Red Sox.
I put a lot more money into the Tampa franchise than the Red Sox, going to eleven of their games despite it being a two hour drive.
I am number one a fan of the game, number two the Red Sox and number three the Devil Rays.
And yes, the Yankees come in at the bottom, but is that news?
Yep,
like I said, he didn't take it as teasing. To bad. P40 did.
frankly why are you bringing posts to this board from another board that aren't even about baseball.
You didn't answer any of the questions I raised concerning the Yankees play. And those aren't my questions but questions that came up on a Yankee board?
Stick to baseball, your hatred and venom are showing. LOL
And I guess with you guys stirring the pot, you don't really want me to lay low, do you?
Please,
from here on out, let's keep the subject on baseball. I was teasing Neb. P40 saw that, now that is a class yankee fan.
So what is your opinion on Jeter's fielding and baserunning last night? Was it worth the money to hire Mike Myers to be the designated pitcher to Ortiz? Where would the Yankees of been last night if Bubba hadn't made that first inning catch? If the wind hadn't been blowing in, how far would Wily Mo's wouldabeen grand slam of went? How will Damon bounce back from his first game in Yankee blue in the rivalry? Many fans of the Yankees last night were calling for Tanyon Sturtze to be DFA'ed and that Torre didn't give the Yanks a chance to win, where do you stand on that?
Let's keep the topic on baseball, not raging bull, not putting someone else down over hypothetical opinions, but baseball.
Deal?
riggggggggggggggggggggggggght.
see it your own way, you guys always do. The fact is the Red Sox are in first. The Yankees are TIED for second and third.
Susie,
Are you all so desperate (with the superiorty complex I have previously mentioned) that you fight over such trivialities. They were tied, now they aren't.
Even Joel Sherman of the NY Post yesterday morning said they were tied. Trivialities, Jeesh. And you guys/gals think I start the crap.
Hmmm
Nice try Chuck but the only hatred I see is coming from you. I noticed that even the Post yesterday said the Yankees were tied with the Sox. I guess they aren't now though, huh?
Strong opinioned people get strong reactions. I am used to it. Unfortunately I let myself get dragged down to others levels.
But keep up the baiting, you did get me to respond. LOL
Bull,
Thanks but it would probably be best for me just to lie low for a while. It seems that certain individuals don't care for opinions that differ from theirs and I really don't want to be a part of flame wars.
I really get tired of being baited, both here and at Raging Bull. I let it get the best of me at both places this past week.
Cano had a good game for you guys. Fortunately Jeter, Damon and A-rod didn't. I will be interested to see how Beckett responds to the rivalry as well as the poor outing last time out.
I think I will see how folks respond to this post and lay a bit low for a bit. I would like to converse with cival folks that root for other teams and enjoy their perspectives. I'll see how things go.
don't bother
I'm leaving.
Nothing
You posted remotely defines his arm as the best ever. You have a subjective opinion, Nothing more nothing less.
All the items posted are red herrings. All you have is an opinion, nothing more or less.
As you know nothing about my background, you are not qualified to discuss it.
You are pompous, conceited and arrogant, nothing more.
Give your baseball opinions, but leave your opinions of other posters out of your comments, you are only degrading yourself.
Top ranked RF of all time
http://www.thebaseballpage.com/positions/rankings/RF.php
Clemente was ranked most over rated and number twelve overall.
Such as what? He has been held in a lot higher esteem since he died in his mission of mercy. He was considered a good player at the time but I don't recall anyone saying he was the greatest rightfielder ever before his death.
He wasn't a real media friendly guy and didn't really get the accolades. Perhaps he didn't want to brag on himself or their were other reasons. He simply became a baseball martyr with his death.
There were a lot of strong armed right fielders back then. It was an expected part of being a right fielder. If you didn't have a strong arm you played left or first base.
The game has changed, in some ways it is better today and in some ways it is worse. In fundamentals it is a much worse game that is played today. As far as athletic shape, in most positions it is better.
I personally don't view Clemente as the best right fielder ever. Was he good? Yes. Was he the best ever? IMHO, no.
Clemente,
has a legend that developed after his death, much of it exagerated.
In other news, Time has released it's 100 most influential person's list. Stino was not included.
Barfield wasn't a Red Sox,
so I will take your slights you present in your post with the same grain of salt I take with all your other "all knowing" comments.
re Clemente,
I would put Evans and Jesse Barfield in the conversation, and to say Clemente was way above them with his arm is just more ignorance.
Lester
Will frustrate a lot of batters before his career is over. That said, it did look like a bad call by the ump. That is no excuse and Young has had a lot of on field and off field episodes.
He should be suspended from any professional baseball activity for the rest of the year, if not a lifetime banishment for what he did.
If you find that game painful,
the game last night was doubly so. Beckett had no control and gave up a grand slam in the first inning. The fielders looked like baseball clowns at a simulated game at the county fair and to add insult to injury the first base umpire failed to get the call right at least three times against red sox runners.
If things continue in that vein, playing all their division rivals the next couple of weeks the Sox could go from first to worst in a hurry.
Francona has done a terrible job with lineup construction. The only saving grace is with all this, since Coco's injury they have managed an 8-8 record.
See, not all of my posts are positive about the Sox!
And the Red Sox
are ahead of the Yankees there too. You could use a little growing up yourself.
Red Sox two games up
Papelbon saves his ninth game
Ortiz and Manny go deep
It's good to be a Red Sox fan. :o)
Lang,
well I went back and looked for the story about the high slide but couldn't find it. The event did occur and the White Sox were angry about it. Perhaps that was the motivation for Ozzie calling him out about the WBC. I can't say for sure.
I never said I wasn't biased by the way. I love my Red Sox and hate the Yankees. That isn't news.
I would say you have a problem in discussing things with those who disagree with you though. You have been quite rude to not only me but to others who differ in their opinions with you.
Lang,
It is clear you don't know what you are talking about. The play was during the season last year and yes the White Sox shortstop did make a big to do about it.
I'm done here, you guys are way to touchy.
Peg,
He will do you good for this year and probably next, but I think you will have another Bernie after that.
The commonality of the Yankees and the Union has to do with escalating payrolls and making the game a lot less affordable.
I am going to at least eleven games this year, including this coming weekend, so it isn't about me personally. I just think the high ticket prices and moving the game to cable and pay per view is making the game elitist.
And again, not about me personally as I am glad to be able to watch the Red Sox, or any other team for that matter, down here in Florida. It is just taking a lot of kids away, which will eventually doom the game if it continues.
Lang,
And I suppose Mr. Rodriguez attempt at slapping the ball away in the playoffs was just enthusiam for the game? That White Sox complaints of him coming in high with his spikes are just his competitive fire?
He tries to cheat, he is unsportmanlike, he is a fraud. You can stand up for Jeter or Rivera, but A-fraud, Sheffield and Giambi have not much to defend them for IMHO.
Peg,
I thought they showed a lot of class standing and watching and applauding the Sox on opening day last year.
However, I wouldn't necessarily think of the word class when it comes to the Billy Martin years.
My biggest gripe about the Yankees and the Union is that by expanding payrolls so much, they are pricing kids out of a day at the park and are inviting drug problems (steroid and otherwise).
Before I am bashed for the last comment, I am talking about the pressure to perform for the big bucks involved.
Lang,
Sorry, I wasn't the one who picked the fights. Others just didn't like my characterizaions of their "heros". I have never said anything personally about Susie the way she has done me. Perhaps you need to speak to her.
As so many of you seem to be offended, perhaps it would be better for me to leave. It seems clear that if anyone speaks out against the Yankees, they are not welcome.
Susie,
First off, calling me childish is namecalling on your part.
Second, Bill Mueller is a pro and a gentleman and he is gone.
Third, Boston had a lot of players on the team that I did not care for, but I root for the laundry. They probably needed a bunch of free spirits to overcome the media pressure about a so called curse but that doesn't mean I have to like the players actions. The Red Sox were my favorite team long before those clowns showed up.
Manny isn't high on my list either and he is still on the team.
lang,
the guy is a plastic resemblance to a human being, that is why. All he is about is PR, so he is a fraud. Steroids have nothing to do with that.
I get the information from my own children. My wife is a teacher, here in Florida they are rampant. So, I am not making bizarre comments, thank you very much.
Also, it was said under oath during the congressional investigation into steroids that they are rampant as well.
Bill,
Amy tothe stars (or intheright direction)
Amy whatcha gonnado
My belle Amy
I've got a million of them. LOL
Susie,
So be it. I'm sorry you feel that way. I guess any team can be questioned except for your all perfect, pinstripers.
BTW, fans on nyyankeefans.com seem to come up with much stronger names for Red Sox players. So even high and mighty Yankee fans aren't as pristine as you would like.
lang,
Well you are ignoring the obvious possibility that they were doing steroids before they ever made it to the big leagues. It is rampant in the schools. Some say even more than recreational drugs.
I don't see anyone above suspicion. That is the sad part. A-fraud was also on teams in Seattle and Texas where others have been caught doing steroids. It doesn't mean he did them, but the odds increase since he was around those that did.
Peg,
Thanks I appreciate your intellectual honesty. Of course it was to make the Yankees "dominion" larger than the Red Sox. But we have beat this to death last night. I do appreciate the fact that someone from "the other side" could see where I was coming from.
I hope they can raise a lot of money to fight cancer. I had my father, grandfather and an Aunt to die from the disease and my wife, praise the Lord has recovered from breast cancer found in January of 1999. I wish them the best.
chapter 54,
If you have ever been to the Raging Bull Dugout board, I have questioned A-fraud as well as those with links to Seattle, Oakland, Texas and New York and every other team for that matter.
Bill,
That would be my wife's reason. Sorrento was her favorite, she always wanted to go to games to see him. I guess she will have to settle for Rocco Baldelli these days. LOL
Aw,
You don't know what your missing. ;o)
Susie,
Ready to kiss and make up?
Sorry chief,
I was a Sox fan even before 67. I don't think I am the only Red Sox fan who has a severe dislike for the Yankee organization by a long shot.
Susie does a great job speaking for herself, thank you.
Susie,
Sorry, if you don't see the relationship, I think it is pretty obvious.
I really don't want to carry this any further, because I like you and we seem to be getting on thin ice here.
Susie,
Because what is bigger than a Nation, yep, a Universe. BTW, Steinbrenner has a farm in Ocala and I have posted some of the good things he has done to help out those in the community. You must of missed that. However, I stand by my remarks about the Yankees. It is the name that was given to it, not the fact that it is a charity. You and Bull should be able to see that.
Now about those steroid users, price inflators and union lacky's.....
Susie,
I am sorry you feel that way. The hatred as you call it is about the Yankee organizations superiority complex and it's arrogance as well as how it and the union are largely destroying the game.
