Yea RR! That sorta scared me......I had trouble getting on last night and then today.....I have not been getting around on SI too much. Thought maybe the Fat Lady has sung and I wasn't aware of it.
If it is not fixed soon we will have to get in touch with a few folks if we can find out how.

Just found this post from SI Bob!! Hopefully SI will soon be back up and running. I have a new computer and do not have anyones E-mail anymore......We need to post this site over there again as soon as SI comes up again.
Glad to see you over here RR! At least we have contact.

I'm turning in now. No progress at all.
I'd been trimming down the folders table on SI all day because at 19.2 million rows, it's just not feasible to keep it updated on the development site in anything near realtime.
Wasn't having any problems until I wrote an ASP to remove the PM's that the site itself had sent but hadn't been read by the recipients. Probably worked out to batches of 300k or so at a time.
As far as we can tell, the "rollback" logs filled up, and it just plain shut down and refuses all attempts at recovery or growing the rollback logs.
As soon as I get up tomorrow, I'm looking for a real Oracle person to try to get it straightened out.
It looks like the data is all intact. We just can't get to it. And all but the last few hundred messages are backed up onto the new server. But the portfolios and some other things aren't. So we're trying our darnedest to get it working as quickly as possible.
And I'm gonna smack the snot out of the next smug Solaris/Oracle geek I run across online who badmouths W2K/SQL Server.
Edit: To make matters worse, I fell asleep about 6-ish yesterday afternoon (I guess that'd be the day before yesterday now) and woke up at midnight and got started on this trimming of the folder table. Meaning I've been awake for 26 hours now. And am supposed to be going to Harrah's tonight with the wife for the night in celebration of our 17th anniversary.
Hello! Our temporary site has been the "Porchers" here on IHub but I have decided to open this thread as it looks as if SI could die and I wanted to have the orginal "Voltaire's Porch" site.

Hi Bigbeancounter! Sorry I do not get over here very often as you can see. I set this up as an alternative......in case something happens to SI.
Sure wish you were over on SI.....like I said before if they offer free deals I shall post over here.
Glad to see RR still has the address......he plays such an important part on the SI thread.
luv,
dealie
Hi RR! Good to see ya got this address still......I started to come over and check it yesterday when I had trouble with SI and never did.
Still hope everyone has this address....

Hi Vendit My Friend! A miss....who cares....Ya call 'em like ya see 'em. If ya could get them right all the time we'd all be rich.....and you wouldn't even give us the time of day.....BTW: Your batting average is pretty dog gone good.
No one knows for sure where this dude is going....I admire anyone that has the guts to make a call before hand....not many have the guts....I say you always do
and anyway I like your last call mucho better..(heading up for a bit)...Thanks for all you do.........

A F T E R H O U R S .. Q U O T E S & EARNINGS REPORT DATES
Voltaire's Porch Basket of Stocks
These Stock Have Not Been Picked By Any One Individual
GORILLA--A company that controls it market because it has a discontinuous innovation ,one that is not compatible with existing systems. The market is in a hyper growth stage, and they control the architecture. There is a high switching cost to using some other company's product.
KING--The Market leader, properly with a two-times lead or better over its closest competitor. If the lead shrinks too far, the king becomes a prince, and we have a kingless market. Because they lack architectural control, and because switching costs are low, they cannot force competitors onto the defensive the way Microsoft, Intel, or Cisco can. Compaq is a king. Seagate is a king of hard drives.
A lot of study has been done on these stocks by the Gorilla and Kings thread. There are the stocks that are discussed most often on the porch........and 1 or more are in most porcher's portfolio.
The following Stocks are on the Gorilla and King Index

Morning Vendit! Found this thought I would pass along. I had no idea what Book to Bill was.
Subject: Analysis - Book-to-Bill Ratio
Last-Revised: 19 Aug 1993
Contributed-By: Timothy May
The book-to-bill ration is the ratio of business "booked" (orders taken) to business "billed" (products shipped and bills sent).
A book-to-bill of 1.0 implies incoming business = outgoing product. Often in downturns, the b-t-b drops to 0.9, sometimes even lower. A b-t-b of 1.1 or higher is very encouraging.

Hi Vendit!
Thanks for the link!
AOL -- Nice! I appreciate all comments and especially yours.
....did not get pass the Williams......you posted sometime back that if the Williams goes down "Git Out". The Williams has turned down add that to the other comments and I vote AOL going down.

Good morning! Good Call! Thanks, dealie (eom)
OOPS! I can't believe I posted that twice. (sorta like punching two holes). I guess I need to get a new ballot and start over.
Hope you won't throw out both of my votes. Please keep and count one.
dealie
Hi Matt! I think the images/charts are great. Maybe you could make your rule as to Stock Charts only.
I have learned so much from Vendit and this site. Saved me a lot of weekends in seminars, reading books, etc. and beside who can you believe.......so thankful for someone like Vendit, that I trust.
I vote "yes" on the images. I punched just one hole so my vote will not be unfranchised.
dealie
RV! I am glad Vendit is helping me with this board......and appreciate his answering your question. Vendit and I both stay quite busy with our investments and trying to help others that there is little time for such as this.
Do you understand what a friend is? To me it is a person that makes you feel good.
Question: Are you a friend of Voltaire's???
Please read the header and you will understand that this is a gathering place for friends of Voltaire's. It is really about that simple.
dealer
Thanks Vendit! Good call and perfect timing......used it to my advantage and it turned out real swell. I sold some calls and bought some puts on NEWP right before AG opened his mouth.
Thanks again.

Good Morning Vendit! Thanks for helping to clean up this thread. I guess we oughta be pretty proud we have a thread that folks just can't stay off of.......
Funny that even the ones that were Banned from the porch on SI seem to be glad they have been given another chance to sit on the porch.......and grab the opportunity to do so. Yes! We really have something special with this porch......keeps 'em coming back.
Everyone is welcome on the porch as long as they are not here to harrass and attack Voltaire or any other porcher. This is still a place for friends of Voltaire.
Thanks again,
dealie
Thanks Vendit for the Naz. charts and your opinion on KREM. I was kinda hoping that was what your opinion would be......

Any imput you might have will be appreciated as usual.
Thanks Vendit! You is appreciated.

Thanks Carolyn fer the welcome. Nice to join you gals. I stay pretty busy on the porch, trying to watch Vendit and read about 18 threads.
Seems SI has slowed down so much that I can actually get caught up with my reading and still have time to stop here every once in a while.

Hi GaPeach, I just found out the other day that you are the better half of Vendit.
I started to send you a pm and I thought the heck with it, make it public.
I would like to thank you for allowing your husband the time to spend at his computer helping so many of us. I have great respect for Vendit and his opinions, as do so many.
Have been in Fla for 30 years and will be your neighbor soon. Moving to Ala. the middle of March.....
This site looks like a good spot to sit back and relax after a long day at the office. (actually glaring all day at the screen trying to make a buck or two)
Thanks Again fer yer sharing your hubby wif us.
