squashjohn, we will see!
makemoney18, still on the sidelines. Waiting for the S&P 500 to break 1,892.00. If/when it does then I'll get back in.
lowtrade, understood. I will tweak this to a personal preference. I will make adjustments every 14 to 30 days depending on time frame. I personally feel it's important to adjust to volatility. I have another question. You said that a bear market requires 2 months of index decline and a 20% index correction. What would we call this dip in the market? Is there an official term for this? If there is an official term, what is required for it?
This current dip has been the biggest since I began investing. I have chosen to fall back on candlesticks for direction, which I'm a little knowledgeable about. I am still on the sidelines. The S&P 500 will have to break the 1,892.00 range for me to get back in, I believe.
lowtrade, your exit strategies make logical sense. There's no augment about this. I had no logical reasoning for using the exit strategies that I had been put in place. Because I use fundamentals, I will use the ATR. I do have one question. If using the ATR for 14 or 30 day, should this be adjusted every 14 or 30 days on stops?
Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge, Gulley
lowtrade,
lowtrade, now must all 3 major US indexes meet these two elements? The S&P 500, DJIA and NASDAQ? I tend to only use the S&P 500 for benchmarks and analyze it with charting and candlesticks techniques.
I appreciate your recommendations for capitalizing on a bear market. However, I first want to put in place a exit strategy for the overall market. I have a set exit strategy for investing. I prefer a set exit strategy because it takes emotion out of investing. For example, to minimize loss I sell when PPS hits -4% of price bought. To lock in gains, I set a 4% trailing stop on quote when PPS hits 30% of price bought.
It will be hard to make a set strategy for this, but I believe it is necessary. Since I on average hold a stock for 5 months I wouldn't call myself a long-term investor per say. I'm not sure what constitutes someone being a long-term investor, swing trader or something in between. What is the general rule of thumb for this? Though I do believe that for the amount of time I hold, waiting for a bear market using those elements could too long.
Any thoughts?
Thank you, Gulley
lowtrade, I began investing in a bull market. Since I began investing in July of 2013 I have seen dips in the market, but this one has been a eye opener for some reason. See this current market dip has reminded me that I have never seen a bear market. I don't know what signs to look for, what to expect from these signs and how to react.
You have taught me to step back and look at the bigger picture when looking at a particular stock. Since then I have been able to see chart patterns and trends. I can clearly see that the S&P 500 is in a channel up and is coming down from the top channel line. I haven't been able to put time or effort into learning technicals due to college studies. I believe I have a basic knowledge of charts and trends, but not enough to feel confident.
Are there any simple technical or even fundamental indicators that could tell me that a bear market is on the horizon? As of now I would consider myself a long-term investor, possible swing trader. I have only made two trades since July 1, 2013. So I'm looking for events such as 2008 and 2011 bear markets.
I am more oblivious than I believe to be. Just like chart patterns and trends, I am realizing that it's not just about individual stocks. It's about stepping back and looking at the overall market.

squashjohn, apparently the market also agrees that zulily, Inc. (ZU) is also overvalued, based on what the chart is telling us. I agree, short-term moves are very possible. (ZU) is violate, we can't see this when looking at the Beta due to it's history. Though we can look at the float and realize that it is rather low. There is a high short interest here at 29.76%, which leads me to believe the market also believes there is still potential significant downside here and I agree.
Even at this PPS, Yelp, Inc. (YELP) is too expensive for my taste.

56Chevy, I was unaware of this. I haven't been investing/trading that long, but this is the first and only money center bank that I have seen which is OTC listed. I was also unaware that it saves compliance costs. Something about Community Bank of South Florida, Inc. (CBKS) made me want to keep it on the watch list. I assume it's because that's very undervalued based on BVPS and I saw potential. I believe there is still plenty of meat on bone here with (CBKS). I hope I can find other money center banks like (CBKS). Thank you for enlightening me.

cintrix, with your help I found total repurchased amount of shares and in dollar amounts for 2013 Q2 and Q3 for Bank of America Corp. (BAC). However, I was unable to find the total repurchased amount of shares and in dollar amounts for 2013 Q4. Unlike the Q2 and Q3 being filed as 10-Q, Q4 was filed as a 10-K. I'm looking at Part III., Item 8 Financial Statements and Supplementary Data, Page 156, Consolidated Statement of Changes in Shareholders’ Equity.
I believe the 10-K shows total repurchased amount of shares and in dollar amounts for Q1, Q2, Q3 an Q4 for 2013. Do I, subtract total repurchased amount of shares and in dollar amounts from 2013 Q1, Q2 and Q3 to get total repurchased amount of shares and in dollar amounts from 2013 Q4? I could very well be looking to hard, but I read through that section of the 10-K several times. I hope I'm trying to explain this in the clearest way possible. The link for (BAC) financials are below.

RobinT, if you have a time machine then now would be a good time to share. We can go back in time, invest and even party on Halloween while we're at it. All joking aside, I still believe there is plenty of meat on the bone here with Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEP). (KEP) is 108% below BVSP. These gaps really worry me though. If there is a pull back, I believe it would be closer to 30%. Though with the momentum with (KEP) it's hard to speculate. I have noticed lately that foreign equities, specifically Asian equities have a hefty premium. This might be that next expensive Asian stock.
RobinT, unfortunately I did not! Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEP) is up almost 36% since October 25, 2013. I assume you didn't either?
56Chevy, I have not. In your opinion, do you believe Community Bank of South Florida, Inc. (CBKS) will up list in the near future? I have had (CBKS) on the watch list since Nov. of 2013. However; I noticed today that (CBKS) is listed OTC. I was quite surprised, I assumed (CBKS) was at least AMEX listed.
56Chevy, does Community Bank of South Florida, Inc. (CBKS) plan to up list in the near future?

oilin07, speaking of diversified; I found a list of products that General Electric Co. (GE) produces. I was surprised to find some products that I was unaware of (GE) producing. One that surprised me the most was wind turbine components. I do believe wind turbine is the future. It might not be in 10 years or 50 years, but I believe one day it will be important as we harness more clean and efficient energy resources. Oil and nat. gas is not a resource that will always be available. However; wind is a resource that will never run out. This is why I'm glad to see that (GE) is operating in that business.
You can find (GE)'s list of products in the link below.
