The plot thickens.
All was fine until just now when I had to restart my PC. After restarting I could not use the text and callout tools. After thinking about this I realized that this problem has always appeared after restarting my PC. So what is happening when my PC is restarted. Is there something involved in a restart that shuts down something in Java?? Is this something I may have done without knowing?? Who knows.
Thank-you Quasi. I did try the system restore and could not annotate at all after doing that. I deleted my Java and reinstalled and all is working now. I guess reinstalling Java yesterday must have messed up the restore point??
My wifes PC has worked fine for annotating the past 3 days and her PC had the same Microsoft updates that mine had. This is all very interesting.
My plan is to do the updates one at a time and see which one causes the problem. If it is just one. lol
I am waiting for all the bugs to be fixed if you can call it fixed before trying Windows 7. In my experience its better to be late to the party when it comes to installing new microsoft versions.
I am also using IE 8.
Thanks again!!
Its back!!
I would probably start with uninstalling Java, reboot the machine and then download a fresh copy and re-install. Also as the problem seems to happen more late in the day, I'm thinking it might have something to do with your java or system cache. When it happens, have you tried shutting down and rebooting the computer to clear the cache, if so does the problem go away, at least temporarily??
Thanks again Quasi!! The problem was back this morning. Clearing the cache never works. When I went to uninstall Java I discovered there were two versions on my PC, TM6-5 and TM6-16. I uninstalled both and reinstalled and now all is well. Hopefully this was the fix!!
After deleting both Java versions and downloading the current version my annotation problems went away from 9/30 until yesterday and today. Today I tried reinstalling Java even tho I had the current version and that did not help. At least things worked for 3 weeks.

Thanks Quasi! I ran the java test and all passed. It is my computer for sure because my wifes PC works fine for the annotations. Our PC's are identical with all the same settings. Obviously something is different and I'll have to hunt it down.
Very crazy!!
Text and Callout tools not working again
I have had problems using the text and callout tools for a couple months now. The problems show up intermittently and usually in the late afternoon or evening. Today is the first time this has haoppened in the morning.
The problem always goes away on its own and nothing I do seems to help. One time doing microsoft updates seemed to clear the problem but I an thinking that was coincendental.
Has anyone else had this problem and is there a fix for it??
"I am not able to annotate charts using the Text tool and Callout tool. Everything else works ok. When I click on either tool the box opens up but I cannot enter any data. This problem first showed up last weekend but was gone the next morning. It came back today. The fact that it comes and goes leads me to believe its a stockcharts problem."
"Is anyone else having this problem??"
"The problem just cleared after I updated some Microsoft security patches. Unknown if this is coincidence or not??"
Ther above info was posted on 7/29-30. Just wanted to mention that this problem was gone since that update of the security patches. No problemo until today when it came back. On checking I noticed that I needed to update to Vista SP2. After doing so the problem was gone.
"I'm still unable to annotate. Can you advise on which security patches you updated?Thx."
Sorry but I paid no attention to what they were.I'm also not convinced that the patches were truely involved as the same problem resolved itself without the patches last weekend. We shall see I guess.

Back up now and lightening fast.
Back up but charts are just red x's so not really back up.
All my charts show fridays close. Did they forget to set their clocks ahead?? lol
Just saw this at SC when checking to see what they have to say about the recent problems.
20-Feb: StockCharts.com has won the "Best Technical Website" award from Stocks & Commodities magazine for the sixth straight year!
But not a peep on whats going on with the chart problems. Perhaps we should all let that magazine know how paying customers are always left in the dark concerning problems.
"Ditto on the red squares over the last few days. Intermittant and annoying.
Seems to get worse if I hit Page Down before the entire page has loaded (just a guess here)."
That's what I'm seeing too. If I start scrolling thru a list before the entire page loads those red squares start popping up. Seems worse today and is affecting intraday charts mostly. Also worse on INDU today after being worse on SPX yesterday.
I've been having a strange problem since StockCharts was knocked offline last month. When viewing saved charts the font size of annotations becomes bigger on some charts in a random manner without me making it so. I happens on all time frames and clears if I do 1 or 2 refreshes. Anyone else run into this??
"Again stockcharts on rampage
They again like a few weeks ago are blocking most charts on boards
Of course we subscribe mainly to share charts and they don't want us to do it..."
This is a strange issue as some members of a group I'm in can see charts and some can only see that "Please visit StockCharts" box. Some charts that can't be seen at one site can be seen at other sites. And static snapshots seem to be no problemo.
"NW storm details:
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/windswept2006.asp
Quite a storm!
SCC is located here according to att anywho.net:
11241 Willows Rd NE
Redmond, WA 98052"
With 90mph winds and floods lets hope a power outage is the worst that has happened to SC's.
Other subscription sites I do business with send out e-mails to all their customers whenever they are having problems. Its really not that hard to do and is a common courtesy that seems to be beyond the folks at SC's.
Just wondering?? Where is SC's real world location. Hope they are not run from a basement up in Seattle.
"So it seems now that many message boards will loose all their charts if they were live ones. Stockcharts really should have made a notice about this."
All our charts were real time so they don't work. Just played around with using static snapshots and they show up no problemo. But more work than its worth.
Thanks for clearing this up!!
"The reason I subscribe to SC is because I trade for a living-- I don't subscribe to make online buddies-- I don't subscribe because I have aspirations of becoming a message board guru.
I use it to make money-- FOR ME...!"
I'm a member of a private online group of traders. Posting annotated charts is an important part of communicating what we are seeing. We work togather to make money for all of us. One chart is worth a thousand words, maybe more. Being able to actually have the charts appear in a message is much more convenient than clicking on links to view the charts. This is especially important on days when there is a lot happening in the market and many posts get made. It saves much time. The changes SC has made make it more difficult and time consuming to do what we do.
SC's lack of interest in letting paying customers know a change is coming and in not responding to paying customers concerns about those changes is unfortunate. Tho certainly not a surprise and most certainly not out of character for them. Like how hard would it be to inform their customers in a timely manner when the site is having problems?? Instead they mostly keep quiet and make us wonder if its SC, our PC's, our ISP's, or what??
StockCharts now says its against their TOS to post charts at sites other than theirs. The charts not showing up anymore is a deliberate act on their part. Funny it becomes an issue out of the blue with no attempt to inform their customers of the change. Pretty typical for these greedy guys. I would think all the free advertising they get from thousands of cool annotated charts would be a viewed as a good thing. Only at StockCharts is free advertising bad. And now bad after many years of being no problemo. Time to find another chart service I guess. Anyone have any recommendations??
On the message boards the charts no longer show up. Instead there is a white box saying "Please visit StockCharts.com to view this chart"
Did they change something here??
Error messages
I have been getting messages like this for several days now. Happens a few times a day. Get the message instead of a chart. Anyone know what is going on??

These moving annotations...
Really suck. This is happening on all of my charts and just too many to be able to fix every day. Really like the new bells and whistles but what good are with charts looking like this???
http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=TLT&p=60&yr=0&mn=2&dy=0&id=p20415611266&a=7...
Moving annotations.
Note how all my annotations have moved on this chart. Every day I have to move all the annotations back where they belong. This seems to be much worse with SC2 than it used to be. Major PITA. Anyone know of a way to stop this from happening?

Puny annotations
I noticed if I try and annotate from one of my lists I get the puny annotation window. But if I left click on a chart and annotate from there the window is normal sized.
Puny annotation windows.
Anyone else just start getting pint sized annotation windows with only half the chart viewable??
Price labels not reflecting the actual high.
Anyone notice the price labels do not seem to correspond to actual highs or lows anymore?? Whats up with this?? For the Dow note how 11452.55 is not the high for the this weeks brief bounce.

Today that annotation problem appears to have been fixed. Looks like they are getting some of the growing pains ironed out.
Still can not annotate 1, 10 and 15 minute charts. Problem magically started at 930AM this morning.
It did magically disappear. I checked in at 4:07 and no problemo with annotating. My annotations were all magically there and the error null Chart Title message was gone.
Still can not annotate any of my 1-min, 10-min or 15-min charts. Same problem as last week. Last week this problem magically disappeared as soon as the market closed at 4PM.
60-min, daily, weekly and monthly all annotate fine. Intraday periods less than 60-min do not annotate and show up blank after hitting annotate.
Annotation problems have returned on intraday charts.
Everything working now. Musta been growing pains.
I'm getting this too. I am ok if I go directly to my members page. But If I try to connect using a saved chart link I get the crazy message. Growing pains I guess.

On the annotations being missing I'm seeing this only happening on intraday charts. Daily weekly and monthly seem to be working ok. Its also not happening on all intraday charts with some working and some not working.
