List of My Stockers, by stock
This is a particularly cool one. And something you'll see in more places going forward.
It's a little function that shows you all the folks, in alphabetical order, that have a particular stock listed in their My Stocks. No Pitch required. It's accessed by going to the Pitches page for any stock.
Example:
Go to a stock board...Click on Pitches...
Click on XXX Members have XXXX in their My Stocks...
You'll get:
This is all building up to the many interesting things we plan to do with My Stocks.
Make sure to update your own My Stocks!
Kudos to DAVE for whipping this one up.....
New Menu Dropdowns
The new menu dropdowns have been out for about a week now. We're hoping that everybody is finding them to be an improvement. Judging by the pageviews and number of people that are discovering new features on the site, they seem to be a big hit. Kudos to MEATLOAF on this one!
If you don't know what I'm referring to.....we've taken all the Hot pages (Breakout Boards, Ticker buzz cloud, Most Read, Most Posted) and put them within 1-click access of any page. Previously, they were 2-3 clicks away. We've done the same with Settings and Boards.
This week, we've stripped out the All Data Tools dropdown from the right of the giant search buttons and move it into the Top Menu as well. It's now "More Tools" and works just like the other menu drop downs.
The interface is really taking some big steps forward lately.
GetSum,
I see the news was correctly tagged with the quote and it's showing up on the board. The board logic (Ihub's own) shows the news alert for any news in the last 24 hours. The ADVFN/Level 2 only shows announcement if it happened *today*. So, that's why it isn't showing yesterdays news....
It should be fixed by market open.
My Stocks Stats:
Everybody here loves stats.
My Stocks is something that's going to be core to the site...and hopefully for everybody who invests. :) We're working on some 'never seen that before!' type stuff.
At the moment, it's just being shown in people's profiles and it's not completely obvious how or why you'd update it...yet the growth has been impressive in the 50 days it's been alive:
Users w/at least one stock in profile: 2,027
Total number in profiles: 5,600
Unique tickers: 1,686
Total number of Pitches: 1,214
The unique tickers is quite interesting -- what we're seeing is a lot of big cap stocks listed in My Stocks (and new boards created). That's really cool, because that means there's quite a bit of interest in the big cap stocks here...just nobody seems to be chatting about them. That opens up several questions -- do people talk about big cap stocks online? Or not really since they buy and bury in portfolio? If big cap stocks are talked about, why not here? Do we need some kind of tool? A feature? A data/news feed? Point is, besides the interesting stuff we're going to do with My Stocks itself, it's also making us ask questions about site usage and what we might need to change.
BTW, to update your own My Stocks: http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/profiles.aspx
Sugarpie, when one reads a post on a stock specific boards, there are some purdy colored icons listed below a line at the bottom of the post like TRADES, NEWS, CHART etc. However, and I have mentioned this before but I guess with your advancing years, you have forgotten it (that's OK - happens to the best of us), there is no icon for an iHub search of that ticker. It would save a step if there was such an icon there. Thank you soooo much.
Meatloaf kicked this live for you -- at the end of icons on any stock board message. Looks good!
Bull, for fun, I went and looked at what it the site from 2006 (looks the same in 2004 & 2005, as well)
http://web.archive.org/web/20060427214511/www.investorshub.com/boards/default.asp
There isn't that much difference in the menu options.
The only thing that's been added on the homepage and the MenuNavigation are the data tools....which many, many people use every day to monitor their stocks and dig for information/news/charts.
We have submenus now, added on to the original menu bar, but that's because we have some kickass programmers now that constantly come up with extremely useful ways to use the data on the site for trading ideas...
Greg,
Agreed. Any major modifications in the future, we'll try to deliver a little smoother.
I understand the first reaction is annoyance when you wake up in the morning and everything is 'different.' Regardless if it's better, easier, shinier...it's not where it was yesterday...and there's no information telling what the heck happened.
I had a similar experience on Hotmail this week. Frustrated that all this new flashy stuff was in my face and my buttons weren't where they always were. Some nice additions, I realized, by 3 day....but on day 1, my stuff wasn't where it was before.
As a tester for the interface, I have the benefit of at least several days of getting accustomed to any changes...so they don't seem like such shock on go-live day. You guys don't get that same benefit and I'll try to write blogs and/or do a Site Message to explain.
Re: New MenuNav
This is something we were tinkering with and it was not ready to go live. We were woken up at about 3:45AM this morning to some completely unrelated server load issues and a homepage bug. To fix those, the menu we were working on had to go live along with the other fixes.
There's some more tweaks and bugs we need to work out of the menunav -- several of which were commented on and reported on this board. ie Favorites shouldn't have a dropdown.
Hopefully we can release a revised version by tomorrow AM.
Also, I realize a lot of this is "new" and the immediately turns people off. Especially things like Log In/Log Out making a beeline to the right side -- however, nearly every top 100 website on the Internet has stuck Login/Out on the top right, tucked away.
You actually go to the same expected place as you always did when you click the names -- Favorites, Hot, etc -- it's not necessary to actually select anything from the dropdown. The drop-downs let you see new areas you might not have ever known existed AND they save you an extra 1-2 clicks to get there vs old way. Plus we're able to REMOVE stuff from the landing pages so there's more space for the actual page content that you're going for. That's awesome.
I promise we're going to stop messing with the interface for a while after this. I know changes are a PITA. These were necessary changes to accomplish many of the big picture items we have planned, as well as to just clean up an outdated interface. Technology does improve over the years. :)
That's all Dan. I just helped out with some alignment. He's put some serious work into that. We'll end up using that as the starting point for FAQ & Handbook from the footer.
Help & FAQ as one link or somethin....
" Morning, Matt " ~ have I been overlooked here ?? >>
investorshub.advfn.com/boards/read_msg.aspx?message_id=52527272&txt2find=OPTION
Larry, not overlooked. It's just a how much use/priority thing. It's not a bad idea at all. Seems most people (like myself) use Notepad until we pop something like that in there.
Okay. I've sent off for a graphic for this. Once we get it back, I'll kick out Filings (least used) and put Full Text Search (extremely useful) on the end.
Cool beans?
Gail,
I've got some good news for you.
5-day charts. I don't know if it's new or not, but they're in the streaming JAVA charts...
http://ih.advfn.com/p.php?pid=charts&symbol=MSFT
Click where it says 1-year, then select 5 day option. There may be a slight learning curve on the streaming charts, but they are pretty dang cool.
I'll ask the London fellers on Monday if a 5 day option has been added to the static charts that you see on the boards and such; if so, I'll finally make your wish come true. :)
Generic,
Lots of iHub construction going on, eh?
We're vaporizing links and such that are rarely used, organizing pages that have scattered bits and bobs, making the site more professional-looking and most importantly -- easier to use.
We've developed lots of cool stuff over the years and have some even cooler stuff coming out, but we absolutlely must make it easy to get to.
That was a mind dump to answer your question -- the dropdown was rarely used, was nixed, but you can still do a non-recent search by doing the search you intended, then clicking on Advanced on the search results page. A similar thing is going to happen with the "Other" tab next week. You'll still be able to do an Advanced search, you'll just need to start with a Basic search.
We've got a lot of old code laying around too -- like Surveys and ADvanced Search that need a whipping into shape and will be done in a way that works well with how the site is shaping up....
<end random blabbering>
Lucy,
It really doesn't belong in the Favorites tabset, IMO.
You, however, can still reach that page with a single click by sliding your mouse just a few more centimeters up to the right and clicking Settings in the MenuNavigation.
Re: Show/Hide Ibox: #msg-52517863
>>btw, can you always have the Show IBox button on top (even after you have the ibox open), don't want to scroll all the way down just to close it..u know..
In the next release, that will be fixed. Show (or Hide) Ibox will be in the top right; and below where it is now.
Thanks for speaking up!
>>are youse guys gonna center New Posts under Reset All when looking at favorites?
I agree with you. Dave...can you slap that one in line for Chewy?
The Add as a Fav button is there if you don't already have it Favorited. So, anybody viewing your board that doesn't it marked will see it. Once added, we remove it from the screen to free up space. :)
>>what i don't like about the buttons is if i have the screen reduced the text all runs into each other below the buttons... it gets all squishy.
Agreed, seeing that as well on various screen sizes. I've got a suggestion in to Meat for that, too.
As you noted, we are changing up the system a hell of a lot lately. This is not because it's the summer and we're bored. We're finally making big changes based on user issues/complaints/confusion. While you regulars find the site easy to use because you could navigate it with your eyes closed; for the noob, this is one tough site to figure out. The number one complaint we get is "How do I post a message?" and "How do I add to my Favorites?" This is a step in that direction. Due to some jiggling around at the top, the amount of screen real estate should be almost the same (so doesn't require more scrolling to get to the messages).
Please do keep the comments going. You should see a revised "BoardBar", based on what's been commented on so far, by the time you're done with your Pulled Pork Sandwich & baked beans tonight.
Plus, admit it -- don't the icons and the color gradient make you want to lick the screen?

IHUB dresses up the pages. Its about time.
Notice all the new tab selections with icons. Wow, they've really out done themselves this time.

>>The Hide Qoute icon is in the the same line as "Go to Post #.." section and well below the new icon bar. It happens when I maximize IE window to extent of my 24" display.
That's been reported and screenshotted to Meat. I'm getting it as well. Should be fixed today. Report any other weirdness to us!
I just hooked you up as well, since you hosted for everybody. Wasn't for your golf team picking skills.
Great contest as always, guys!
I've credited the two top with some iHub subscription love....
1 $1,449,138 stockmasterjgv
2 $1,250,072 dffhogs
They're rather ugly looking and not for an IQ under 150, but yes:
http://ih.advfn.com/p.php?pid=usfilterx
You can click "All Data Tools" in the navigation menu at the top of any page on Ihub to get there.
That said, it does work damn good and can really drill down and find you some excellent stocks based on Fundies.
Okey dokey. It's you guy's call. Myself, I'd rather have anybody and everybody that wants to talk AAPL in the same room. I'm sure they wouldn't mind. Whatever tickles your pickle, though. Glad to have you guys here.
Main IHub AAPL Board
We're working on some projects that will make big cap traders happy. If there's ever anything you fellers would like to request for us to include -- msg board feature or data-wise, please let me know. We want to make you guys as happy as possible and expand our reach in this area.
Warren on the data side has got some sliiiiick stuff up his sleeve that even Yak will end up adding to his trading arsenal...
In the iHub Ocean of penny stocks, it's nice to see a big-cap focused board kicking some ass:
http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/most_read.aspx
Chaz,
There is, but it's a premium feature. You can view 10, 50, 100, whatever you want at a time.
http://ih.advfn.com/p.php?pid=smatrix_info&prodinfo=ihub_bb_sub
As a side note - is there any reason you guys wouldn't want to use the main AAPL board here?
http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/board.aspx?board_id=64
Are there format changes taking place?
In the past hour, I've noticed the "Latest News" and "Latest Messages" sections on Board Message Home Pages are re-vamped, and the "News" section is blank? Yes?
Work still underway? No "News" on any stock listings, at least for this moment.
Good eye!
Yes, those pages have been re-worked to include some really useful features. I just did a full walk-thru and it does have some bugs related to news. I've reported them to the guy working on it. They should be fixed quite quickly.
On the upside, there's some very cool features added to the quote page. The best one is the page is now 'live' -- delayed or realtime based on your subscription -- the page will update the quote/bid/ask/volume every few seconds and flash red/green if it's uptick/downtick. I'll explain more on this and the other features once he has all the kinks worked out.
Generic,
I see what you're getting now.
The interesting thing is that Yahoo Finance, Google, London Stock Exchange, ADVFN all disagree on the quote. That's really bizarre! Everybody quotes something different...and the difference is substantial.
I'm going to speak to the Feeds team and see what they can figure out on it -- I'm sure it's affecting other stocks as well.
Generic,
What about it is incorrect? The Board name is the shortened version of the full name.
Are you seeing something besides:
Ishares Trust Barclays 20 Plus YR Trsr TLT as the quote?
99.32 is the last price on what I'm seeing.
http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/board.aspx?board_id=4256
I'll get 'em to fix it by Monday AM. I did a temp fix for the board in the meantime, though.
I am not pleased with the quality of many of the Pitches that have been done. We're adding in some text to the Add/Edit page that hopefully will be helpful. Also, Admin will have a Pitch Zapper soon to kill off any TOU violations.
There's much more to this entire exercise than can currently be seen.
>>come on matt, you know better than that. is d.d. really reading what an anonymous poster cares to spam? PITCHES? not the way to go. sorry.
Here's a model example of how I envision Pitches being used:
http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/ProfileS.aspx?user=76698
Will Pitches be used for brainless comments? Of course. Message boards are sometimes, too, and everybody still gets value out of them....no one source of information will every qualify as "full DD" -- every little bit helps, though.
>>actually the my pitches is just another button to have authorized spam attached to a board.
Spam? Shouldn't be. It should be on-topic valuable quick comments about the stock. Why someone likes the stock in under 300 characters. That sounds really useful to me, if I'm doing DD on a stock.
>>Its just more clutter on the screen. is the new objective of IHUB, to see how many buttons and tabs can be squeezed and added to the already cluttered realestate so there is no square left you cannot click on? is the soul purpose to build up the click counts? Lots of buttons and whistles that don't mean a thing when it comes right down to it.
We certainly want to grow the traffic, but only by providing useful tools and sources of information. We don't create things just to create them. There's always a purpose for them and they'll be used by certain folks and not others. If something wasn't used at all, we'd kill it. There's no use in having clutter.
That said, the Board page view is getting a bit messy. There's a redesigned layout in the Project Queue to correct that and I suspect you'll see it -- and be quite pleased with it -- in a few weeks.
Keep an eye on the MyStocks feature. This is going to be a big one for iHub. It's just the beginning of it.
New Code Released: Hot! Lists & Pitches
* You'll notice a much sexier Hot! dropdown menu on the Hot! page. It was actually an accident it turned out there....but MEATHEAD did a beautiful job on it. It'll also be in the TopNav as Hot! to remove a click to get to the other Hot options....
* Member Pitches: This is the first extension of My Stocks that we've done. Kudos to Geek Dave for this one. When you add a stock and pitch to your My Stocks, your pitch will be listed as part of the Member Pitches for that Stock/Board. It should prove to be a very cool tool to see 'who' is saying 'what' about a stock....in just a few words. You can find all pitches for a ticker below the ibox, as seen here:
Note to all: UPDATE YOUR MYSTOCKS! We have big plans for it.
I've reported this to the Feeds Team to investigate. I'll let you know when the ticket is responded to.
RE: Full Screen Ads
As Dave mentioned, we must endure them as well.
That said, I need to know if you're getting them outside of this scenario.
As a free user:
1) Once per day on the homepage (assuming you don't wipe out your cookies)
2) Once per day on the Quote page (assuming you don't wipe out your cookies)
As a premium user:
1) If you're NOT logged in when you go to the homepage
2) Once per day on the Quote page (assuming you don't wipe out your cookies)
If you're getting the screen popup ad outside of those scenarios, please let me know.
This is something that the ad team is trying. Apparently a new ad type that is becoming quite popular on other very large sites. I've been giving them both my own feedback as well as user feedback.
Please PM me any details/comments.
Update: Level II Bug Fix
The bug that was preventing stocks with no-bid (0 x .0001) from showing Trades on the Level II screen has now been fixed by ADVFN.
Let me know if any of you have further issues with it.
