Hear that a lot. On it's way. No additional cost for premium iHub users. It's pretty sweet. I'd love to post screenshots, but I'm not allowed. Trade secrets and all.
>>You seriously want us to believe that any of the 'advertisers' you sell the 'rent' lists to conform to any standards? Rent, sell,,, what's the difference
The difference between those two words is significant.
Rent = company sends the email to the email list on behalf of the client. Client never see the email list, user info, etc.
Sell = company hands over the email to the client and they do whatever they want with the list. they now own it.
Hope that clears things up.
gronny, Erwin and myself are working with three different educational providers (and more in the future) to add a big, healthy dose of Education/Guidance to the site. You'll see an entire Educational Channel coming up in the next few weeks/months.
It's long been needed and we saw just how great of an addition it was to the site after we put the Education Wiki together. The education wiki is often-referenced and gets a lot of new user traffic. We've received a lot of emails about how the information saved them from getting burned and/or brushed up their trading skills. That was extremely encouraging and lit a fire under our butts to greatly expand the education offering and bring in some professionals.
If you had to name one feature....
that you'd like to see added to the Premium Message Board Feature List to either make you (even more) overjoyed about your current premium membership OR that one feature that'd make you take the dive and finally go for the Premium Message Board.....
what would it be?
That advertisement is by a list broker, not ADVFN. ADVFN does not sell the email lists, where companies then see and own the emails.
A list rent is when an advertiser - say ETRADE - wants to send out an email to the ADVFN list. THat's the only type of email advertising that ADVFN sells. You can opt out of that at any time by clicking the link at the bottom of any email. No personal information is shared with the advertising client.
In what I've seen over the years, they go through great pain to ensure that the lists are quality, meet quality/CAN SPAM standards and that users who do not wish to be on them aren't.
Market Data-related Updates and Improvements:
Some useful additions to Quote page:
Took the ad on the top left out, moved the name/ticker over to the left, and added a new box that allows you to:
*Add to Streamer (Monitor/Watchlist) link
*Add to My Stocks (to share here and on Facebook) link
*[Coming Soon] Add price alerts (notification on phone, email, screen about price movement)

iPhone, iPad, Android implementations of the site right around the corner. A ways into testing now.
Improved news sources on horizon.
NYSE, AMEX Level 2 being added to Ultimate Trader (no increase in cost to package!); you can see it now if you're a subscriber, but we're not done tweaking the feed quite yet.
Congrats on an excellent iHub board, guys --- you're now the homepage spotlight:
http://investorshub.advfn.com/
Last week I was able to see the NYSE, but today the L2 will not show up for those stocks, only Nasdaq. Will we be able to see the NYSE again?
That's something we're adding on as a bonus to the Ultimate Trader package. You saw a sneak-peek of it, we're still debugging it. Will be added back once it passes all the tests. You'll have NASDAQ, AMEX, and NYSE.
Glad you liked it!
My Stocks App on Facebook
If anybody wants to do some experiementing and provide feedback:
http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/board.aspx?board_id=19815
It's quite cool. Shares your stocks with your Facebook friends in real-time. Becomes a great way to get to iHub. Built in watchlist with news, quotes, links to boards, etc.
Very much BETA, so expect mushroom clouds. :)
Stockcharts.com is showing the right price action but the quote box on this board is not. Why? TIA
investorshub.advfn.com/boards/board.aspx?board_id=8148
Wrong ticker. It was entered was TSX instead of TSE.
TSX = venture
TSE = toronto main
Fixed now.
Congrats to the winners.....your accounts have been credited with the prize subscriptions.
Good luck in 2011!
Donde esta Chewy?
I'm getting inconsistent results, as well. Especially if I'm logged out. Mr. Loaf can take a look in the morning.
We'll get it fixed so it's working consistently.
Really? When you're reading this post, type in MSFT in the search box above, hit enter on your keyboard and let me know where it takes you.
You put a link to search public messages on our favorites page!!!
Indeed. One of those things I can't believe we hadn't done it yet, since it's one of the most valuable tools on the site!
It's created a bit too much 'space' between the ticker & the board name. Will get that gap narrowed so it's tighter and cleaner.
One other nice change -- we've found that most people actually prefer to go to the quote page first, then navigate to the message board or wherever....but quote page is 'home.' Now, when you type in a ticker and hit enter (instead of clicking a button or using drop down), it takes you to the Quote page.
Tim, re: #msg-57434141
Do you think it'd be better-placed if it were to the right of the ticker in favorites, just like the News icon?
The reason it's next to boards with tickers is because it has a specific ticker to do a search for...
What would one next to the Person search for?
New: Full-Text Search from Favorites
It might need to be moved to be more obvious (don't think anybody has spotted it yet?), but we know how much everybody likes Full-Text search, so it's been added to Favorites for any board that has a ticker attached to it -- clicking the magnifying glass will do a site-wide full-text ticker search for that ticker....
To All Sprint Cup Winners: Your accounts have been credited with the subscription prizes!
Enjoy. :)
redfisher - thanks for organizing/hosting the contest. It's events like this that make iHub so much fun.
New Feature: Important & Relevant Stock Market News
Previously on the homepage, in the Stock Market News section, it was a listing of market news, ordered by time.
That isn't very effective in explaining why the market is doing what it's doing. Market up 100 points -- why? Market down 75 points -- why?
Now it's very effective.
We've mustered up an algorithm to scour the headlines and check to see what the most relevant/important news is out there general market. It will give you a good idea why the Dow is moving and what is going on with the biggest & most active stocks out there.
It's nailing it, when comparing it to the other major news sites. You can get your answer right from the Stock Market News box. Very groovy.
It's still got some tweaks that need to be done (mostly how it works on the weekends and after hours), so please report any weird news issues to us. It also only shows big board stock news, no otc/pink news. That's a bit trickier as they aren't covered by any major news outlets.
You can see it on the homepage, under Top Lists.
http://investorshub.advfn.com/
Once we have it tweaked just right, we'll move it more towards the top of the homepage, probably near the charts.....
Quick Tip: We've made it permanently show up, but if you ever want a quick, Twitter-like overview of the entire market, click the 'More Top Equities Stories Of The Day' link. It's an excellent report put out hourly by DJN.
Was it a detailed error message? I just did it and it worked just fine.
Do a Board Search [button or dropdown]
You get:
http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/getBoards.aspx?SearchStr=generic
Then click Board Iboxes on the left.
There were way too many options in the dropdown, so they were trimmed down to the most-used.
You might like PostStream (not quite finished, but very groovy)
http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/poststream.aspx
Click the dropdown and select Favorite People.
You'll get their posts in realtime.
Is there another way/view you had in mind?

Desktop Testers: Any brave souls?
Guys, looking for a few people with data subscriptions (Level 1 will work, but it really jams with Level 2 data sub) to test the Desktop app we're tinkering with.
It does some groovy stuff, allows you to arrange your screen however you'd like, add as many Level 2, charts, etc as your screen can take.
By testing this, you also get an early preview on Amex and NYSE Level 2.
How to test:
[Assumption: You have a level 1 or level 2 data subscription]
1. Go to http://ih.advfn.com/p.php?pid=config -- change Java Client to Montage, click Save.
2. Go to http://ih.advfn.com/p.php?pid=desktop
3. Play around. Save templates (we'll end up using them as presets for others). Resize, add modules, click *everything*
Let me know what you think.
There are definitely some bugs in it, we need to improve the help system, etc. We're resurrecting a project that was developed a few years ago and will address a lot of the features that you guys have requested. (Multiple level 2s on screen, 'saving' the stocks you had in Level 2 & Charts, etc)
Any feedback or requests would be appreciated. :)
For those that missed it, a screenshot:
2 years and 1 month ago
SSS was born
... and in that small time frame, you've managed to build it into one of the highest quality and most respected boards on iHub.
Congrats, Sir.
I see a full quote, volume, bid, all that stuff. Do you, by chance, have Javascript disabled? It relies on JS to show the quote.
Needed to ask a question: When I pull up a stock specific board, why does it not show me volume or pps anymore?
It should be right under the intro message/header/ibox.
Can you show me an example where you're not getting volume/price info anymore?
>>It's not always a good thing to "go along with the crowd".
No question there. We're not losing any cool factor. Quite the opposite, we're trailblazing on many things.
That said, the site IS getting complicated to use. If you've been here for a decade like many of you have, the incremental new features and such are easy to accept and understand. If you're new to the site and/or investing, then the site is extremely intimidating. We're working to resolve that, which should improve usability for all.
There's plenty of iHub magic floating around and it ain't going anywhere.
iHub Posts Under News Articles
If you read any news articles that have a ticker attached, you'll now see the IHub message board posts included under the article.
This is across iHub, ADVFN US, and ADVFN Canada news articles. Pretty groovy!
Example:
http://ih.advfn.com/p.php?pid=nmona&article=44908092&symbol=N^MSFT
It's much like articles you read on other sites with the comments under, but in this case, it's pulling the main message board instead of comments just about that article. I find that the comments under those articles are mostly useless, so I'm betting that that likelihood you'll find something interesting related to that stock is higher if it uses the messages from the iHub board.
>>i see we've gone from "show i-box" to "show intro message". now,
Yes, trying to kill off these iHub-specific terms we've had for years and make them general words that are easy to understand. Even people that have been around iHub for many years, still don't know what an iBox or a PersonMark is. They shouldn't have to, though. The site should be obvious to use.
>>if you did that for the default, you would really enhance my i-hub experience.
If you're using iHub to look for new and interesting stocks, iboxes...errr...intro messages are very useful. They're often full of pictures of cool stuff you otherwise wouldn't find while researching a stock using a normal site and often have basic information you're looking for. Google loves intro messages as it's new and unique content. So good for search results.
It's very easy to hide the intro message now. Top and bottom options for a board you follow regularly or don't need the "intro" for.
We're trying to design for the intended audience and we're doing proper testing/analytics to back up our thoughts these days.
I'm really on a Keep It Simple & Uncluttered mission lately. Should see the fruits of those efforts soon.
MB
>>cool! I'm new to the "i" tech stuff but will it also work with an ipad?
We're doing even better than that. There will be an iPad-native app (designed just for iPad). I should have mentioned that.
Slight Header Change & App Update
This mostly affects new users.
We realized just how much the ad in between the top navigation & the search navigation was screwing with the usability of the site for free users, so we've moved the ad above all the navigation. Should result in people actually realizing there IS navigation (mailbox, favorites, etc), avoid unintended clicks on the ad, and just looks better.
In other news, I test the upcoming iHub iPhone app daily, it's coming along really well. Looking forward to showing it to you guys, soon! Following the iPhone app, there will be Blackberry & Android apps to follow.
It's fixed now.
TSE: == Toronto Stock Exchange
TSX: == Venture Exchange
>>When will level 2 be able to stream on a cell phone?
Yes. Streamer and Level 2 will stream. Plus, some extra magic. ;)
It's in development as we speak. I test the latest version on a daily basis and it's coming along at a fast clip.
I don't have a date on launch for it, but you'll certainly know when it's out.
If I search message boards for a phrase and it comes up with a list of posts that contain that phrase, how can I read them all in batch mode, regardless of what board they are on? Or is it even possible?
Funny you mention that. It's on my list to work with the Nerds to show in a better way. We haven't touched that page in ages. Needs more Preview of it; or batch; or open new tab. Something a bit groovier and quicker for running thru the list.
Nope. It'll still update with the fancy colors/updates, it'll just be a slightly historical quote.
Cool Feature Alert: Board Quote Updates w/Colors
Go to any board -- the more actively traded the better.
Example:
http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/board.aspx?board_id=64
Take a look at the Quote box [below the ibox]
You'll see it flash every 30 seconds as it's updating.
The quote is real-time for subscribers.
Light red flash = lower than the last update/price.
Light green flash = higher than the last update/price.
Groovy stuff! Kudos to Mr. Loaf.
