I have studied the 3D in Dunes presentation and I do have several decades of drilling on the gulf coast, so for what it is worth, I will say this. I think that they are now in the oil and I also think that they have a major discovery on their hands.
I have been involved in some salt drilling in and around the gulf and my experience has been very positive... Meaning we always found more miocene than what was originally thought to be in place, broader, deeper and more elongated. In recent years the success rate for these wells runs close to 80% perhaps even a little better than that.
I can also tell you that Repsol has a very good handle on what mother nature has hidden under that salt. In my opinion they are the best salt drillers in the world and they are not here to just roll the dice, spend money, waste time and see what happens. Repsol likes to fry the big fish and if you follow Repsol, you will see that they always, as a rule, underestimate their prospect at the start of drilling to only revise upwards at completion.
