Nice run today eh? I took some profits off the table today. I might sell a bit more if we spike sky high but I'll be holding my free shares long.

I took this from the MSN.com home page. Read the last paragraph it talks about our technology. Especially like the idea about the refrigerator with a scanner & Walmart.
Beyond WiFi
Industry watchers map new wireless frontiers
By Paul Boutin Email this to a friend.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No doubt 2003 was the year of WiFi. The wireless networking technology, renamed from its nerdy industry standard number of 802.11b, made its way into in tens of millions of laptop and desktop computers, plus wireless network hotspots to serve them. Gadget makers unveiled WiFi PDAs, home-entertainment centers, even a cordless telephone that connects to the nearest hotspot to route calls over the Net. Intel threw $300 million into its "Unwire" campaign to persuade consumers to adopt WiFi. Airports, hotels, coffee shops and truck stops installed hotspots to lure big-spending customers who can't afford to be away from the Net.
What comes next after the WiFi boom? Industry watchers say WiFi will keep growing in 2004. There's already a faster version of the technology, nicknamed 54G, that runs up to five times faster than last year's 802.11b equipment -- a boon for passing video files around a home network, or sharing data in the office. But WiFi also has its shortcomings: Hotspots only reach up to 150 feet indoors and 300 feet outdoors, usually less. As a result, getting online via WiFi usually means seeking out a hotspot, the way you used to hunt for a phone booth to make a call. Hotspot operators often charge their customers for access, too, using any of several dozen systems that usually don't accept one another's customers. Some hotspots charge as much as $15 minimum, even for a just few minutes' access to check e-mail. It's like trying to make a call from your hotel room in the days before cell phones.
It's probably no surprise that the next hot wireless Internet technologies are coming from cellular phone carriers. Many cell phone users don't realize that their mobile handset is a digitally networked computer, much like a PC on the Internet. Your voice is digitized into packets of binary data -- ones and zeros -- that are routed through the air to an antenna, and then onto a high-speed network of wires, fiber optic cables and satellite links. Technologically, it's not a big leap to expand the cellular phone system to handle e-mail, Web pages, instant messages, even music and video. The biggest roadblock has been cost, which kept phone companies from investing after the stock market crash.
In 2004, though, high-speed cellular networks will finally become widespread in the United States. Americans have a choice from two basic kinds of cellular service: GSM, widely standardized in Europe and Asia; and CDMA, a different approach that's become popular in the States. Both kinds of networks are now being upgraded with new hardware to deliver speeds from 50 Kbps (comparable to a dial-up modem) to 250 Kbps (almost as fast as entry-level DSL service) from anywhere in town, using a cellular connection. They work with smart phones and PDAs with built-in cellular antennas, or with laptops that have a cellular modem card installed (look for built-in cellular hardware on 2004 laptops).
For now, cellular Internet service costs a bit more and runs a bit slower than WiFi. A card for your PC runs from $150 to $300, while data plans from wireless carriers start around $39 per month. But what they lack in speed and savings, they make up for in the ability to get online from almost anywhere, including a moving car or train. Amtrak commuters on the New York-to-Boston run can chat live with their co-workers during the trip. E-mail in the elevator? Check. Instant messages during a sales meeting? Check. Web surfing from the passenger seat of the car, while doing 55 mph through the Mojave Desert? Check, check and double check.
Bluetooth and RFID
Another wireless technology belatedly on the rise is Bluetooth, a short-range system that replaces cable clutter around your desk with wireless keyboards, mice, printers, and phone headsets, and makes it easy to connect to other people's hardware without adapted cables. Unlike IR (infrared) systems, Bluetooth can reach through walls, furniture, or clothing to connect devices not in plain sight. If you've got a Bluetooth-equipped cell phone, you can use it as a modem for your laptop.
The other wireless technology to land in consumers' hands soon will be radio frequency identification (RFID) tags. These are the wireless version of UPC bar code stickers, and work just like the keychain fob office workers use to unlock the building doors -- they're scanned at close range by an electronic reader, and don't need batteries. Wal-Mart is pushing its biggest suppliers to start tagging shipments with RFID units to make inventory easier. As consumer products with the tags make their way into the home, there'll be other ways to put them to use. Italian appliance maker Merloni has already built a prototype refrigerator that scans any RFID tags on packages inside it. Are you out of butter at home? Now you'll be able to open a browser window and check from your desk.

RE: I agree, I was thinking about Google's GMail also.
What do you think about their "first revenue generating carrier contract with Golden State Cellular."?
The biggest market for Voice is SEARCH!
What should google do?
The ultimate search engine will not be a fancy website in which people need to sit at a desktop to access. In fact people won't have to sit anywhere to access this "Search Engine" it will always be w/us. We'll be able to ask qeustions ranging from simple mathematical problems (Whats 1+1) to abstract idea's (whats the meaning of life)... whoever controls (w/patents) this "Interaction" between the "Ulitimate Search Engine" and people will Kill Google and rake in a lot of cash.(to put it blunt)
One Voice Technologies Inc. claim to be the first 4rth generation Voice Technology and have it patented. The QEUSTION is: Will One Voices patents control "bridge" between people and computers?
I've only known of the company for 2 days... still doing my DD. Feel free to contribute!
P.S. I'm not a laywer and theres a lot of of fish in this pond. This might take a while :)
OT: RE: T-Mobile Future House
Sorry....I Didn't mean to re-post so much info. I set up the "T-Mobile Future House" page on a seperate lead and used a free service to translate. (One Voice Technologies Inc, ONEV). Thanks for your hard work Hans w/post 1934 and in general. Your efforts are MUCH appreciated.
P.S. I'm looking for my next long position. The NEOM story is about to unfold!
RE: I have been holding this one since .07
Glad to have you here!
I'm interested in their patents more then their biz. How familar are you w/their patents.
Thanks

The Philips FluidFocus lens consists of two immiscible (non-mixing) fluids of different refractive index (optical properties), one an electrically conducting aqueous solution and the other an electrically non-conducting oil, contained in a short tube with transparent end caps. The internal surfaces of the tube wall and one of its end caps are coated with a hydrophobic (water-repellent) coating that causes the aqueous solution to form itself into a hemispherical mass at the opposite end of the tube, where it acts as a spherically curved lens.
The shape of the lens is adjusted by applying an electric field across the hydrophobic coating such that it becomes less hydrophobic - a process called ‘electrowetting' that results from an electrically induced change in surface-tension. As a result of this change in surface-tension the aqueous solution begins to wet the sidewalls of the tube, altering the radius of curvature of the meniscus between the two fluids and hence the focal length of the lens. By increasing the applied electric field the surface of the initially convex lens can be made completely flat (no lens effect) or even concave. As a result it is possible to implement lenses that transition smoothly from being convergent to divergent and back again.
In the FluidFocus technology demonstrator being exhibited by Philips Research at CeBIT 2004, the fluid lens measures a mere 3 mm in diameter by 2.2 mm in length, making it easy to incorporate into miniature optical pathways. The focal range provided by the demonstrator extends from 5 cm to infinity and it is extremely fast: switching over the full focal range is obtained in less than 10 ms. Controlled by a dc voltage and presenting a capacitive load, the lens consumes virtually zero power, which for battery powered portable applications gives it a real advantage. The durability of the lens is also very high, Philips having already tested the lens with over 1 million focusing operations without loss of optical performance. It also has the potential to be both shock resistant and capable of operating over a wide temperature range, suiting it for mobile applications. Its construction is regarded as compatible with high-volume manufacturing techniques.
(A) Schematic cross section of the FluidFocus lens principle.
(B) When a voltage is applied, charges accumulate in the glass wall electrode and opposite charges collect near the solid/liquid interface in the conducting liquid. The resulting electrostatic force lowers the solid/liquid interfacial tension and with that the contact angle q and hence the focal distance of the lens.

Vodafone announces today the introduction of "Vodafone live!TM with 3G" for consumers in Europe. 4 May 2004
Vodafone live!TM, the industry-leading, multi-media consumer service, will be enhanced by 3G technology in a series of phases. This will bring consumers improved quality, sound, pictures and videos, as well as increased speed when downloading games and ringtones. They will also be able to access a select range of new services such as video calling, video downloads (sport, news, music and general entertainment) and the streaming of live events to their handset, as well as existing services such as video messaging.
Vodafone is the first mobile operator to bring 3G technology to both business and consumer markets across a number of European countries. For the consumer market, initially this will be on two new handsets - the Samsung Z105 shortly followed by the Sony Ericsson Z1010.
From today, Vodafone live!TM with 3G is available on the Samsung Z105 handset in selected retail outlets in Germany and Portugal. Other countries will follow in the coming months.
Vodafone live!TM with 3G will be enhanced later this year, when there will be a wider selection of handsets available, together with an even more extensive range of content.
Peter Bamford, Chief Marketing Officer, said: "Today's announcement is another important stage in Vodafone's 3G journey and follows the successful European launch of our 3G Vodafone Mobile Connect Card for business customers.
"Extensive consumer trials of Vodafone live!TM with 3G indicate that early adopters are keen to try this technology and so we are giving them a taste of it prior to the full launch of enhanced services later in the year.

May 1 2004 Mobile commerce has taken off and m-commerce services are poised to grow rapidly, according to a study from Telecom Trends International. The study says while successful mobile commerce deployments today mostly focus on digital content, there is a growing movement toward a wider range of m-commerce transactions.
"M-commerce is not just e-commerce gone mobile-it's much more-and it will become a serious part of the global economy," said Susan Welsh de Grimaldo, author of the study. "Since people carry their cell phones everywhere, cell phones will eventually start to replace wallets as a place to store credit cards, frequent shopper cards, and even family photos," she said.
According to the study, there were 94.9 million mobile commerce users in 2003 who will grow to 1.67 billion users by 2008. Revenues from mobile commerce will grow globally from US$6.86 billion in 2003 to over US$554.37 billion in 2008, the study said.
Digital content, although evolving in nature to include more multimedia, will retain a large percentage of total sales, the study said, while tangible goods (purchased remotely or at point-of-sale) and interactive-type transactions will continue to increase.
"M-commerce is taking off due to a confluence of three major developments - rollout of packet-data networks, availability of enhanced data devices, and development of rich content for m-commerce applications," said Naqi Jaffery, president, Telecom Trends International. http://www.cellular.co.za/news_2004/may/050104-simpay_signs_processing_agreemen.htm

Network interactive user interface using speech recognition and natural language processing
Abstract
A system and method to interact with networked objects, via a computer using utterances, speech processing and natural language processing. A Data Definition File relates networked objects and a speech processor. The Data Definition File encompasses a memory structure relating the networked objects, including grammar files and a natural language processor. The speech processor searches a first grammar file for a matching phrase for the utterance, and to search a second grammar file for the matching phrase if the matching phrase is not found in the first grammar file. The system also includes a natural language processor to search a database for a matching entry for the matching phrase; and an application interface to perform an action associated with the matching entry if the matching entry is found in the database. The system utilizes context-specific grammars, thereby enhancing speech recognition and natural language processing efficiency. Additionally, the system adaptively and interactively "learns" words and phrases, and their associated meanings. http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&p=1&u=/netahtml/search....

Object interactive user interface using speech recognition and natural language processing:
Abstract
A system and method for interacting with objects, via a computer using utterances, speech processing and natural language processing. A Data Definition File relates networked objects and a speech processor. The Data Definition File encompasses a memory structure relating the objects, including grammar files, a context-specific dictation model, and a natural language processor. The speech processor searches a first grammar file for a matching phrase for the utterance, and for searching a second grammar file for the matching phrase if the matching phrase is not found in the first grammar file. The system also includes a natural language processor for searching a database for a matching entry for the matching phrase; and an application interface for performing an action associated with the matching entry if the matching entry is found in the database. The system utilizes context-specific grammars and dictation models, thereby enhancing speech recognition and natural language processing efficiency. Additionally, for each user the system adaptively and interactively "learns" words and phrases, and their associated meanings, storing the adaptive updates into user voice profiles. Because the user voice profiles can be stored locally or remotely, users can access the adaptively learned words and phrases at various locations. http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&p=1&u=/netahtml/search....
