? SPLM recently announced the identification of a potential recoverable resource of coalbed methane (CBM) of approximately seven trillion cubic feet in two of its four large leasehold properties in Queensland, Australia. Although significant development work is needed to better define these resources as reserves, this level of new reserves would be equivalent to nearly seven percent of Australia’s existing natural gas reserves (~110 trillion cubic feet).
? We believe SPLM is a very attractive development stage pure play for investors looking to profit from Australia’s strong growth as a significant source of sustainable new energy resources for the entire Asian region. Resource-rich Australia is currently a major exporter of energy resources (including coal, oil and natural gas) to China, India and the other growing economies of Asia. We expect the energy needs of these developing economies will continue to reflect strong growth over the coming decade and beyond.
? Management’s development strategy is relatively low risk/low cost compared to the potential for high returns for shareholders. Management’s current focus is to develop and define SPLM’s significant potential CBM resource to the extent the company becomes an attractive buyout target for long-term development by a large energy company. We expect this approach will yield initial results over the next 12 to 18 months, involving relatively low costs and risks for shareholders compared to the massive investment that will eventually be required to bring these resources to market.
? Due to the very large potential CBM resource SPLM has identified on its Queensland leaseholdings, we believe the company represents an opportunity with significant upside for speculative investors experienced in the junior energy sector. It is unusual to find a small publicly-traded junior energy company with SPLM’s level of identified potential for significant CBM resources and reserves. Although the company has much to do in order to prove out its prospects, we expect the upcoming initial drilling program will go a long way toward providing initial confirmation, and a potentially much higher share price, no later than early Q411.
The other thing for people to keep in mind is that these are very shallow wells to drill to prove up the CSG and can be drilled in a matter of a few days. They are only around 500 to 1500 feet so they are not expensive relatively speaking. They should be able to get an evaluation pretty quickly
I also suggested that Sentry would be better served if they put Phillipe's phone number on the company website rather than the 866 number which goes to the answering service. He agreed and said he would suggest that to management
I called the 866 number and got the answering service. After talking with the lady a bit and finding out the process, I left a message and then I went to one of the press releases and called
Philippe Niemetz, PAN Consultants Ltd.
212-344-6464 or 800-477-7570
He answered the phone immediately and he is the person your messages get relayed to. He can think of no reason for the sell off other than that the stock has had a large run up. The drilling plans are progressing 3-4 wells are planned to evaluate the CSG and once they are drilled, the info is to be evaluated by a reservoir engineer to get an idea of reserves. He assured me that he returns all calls.
I dont like this sell off any better than anyone else, but hopefully this is going to pay off in the long run. I dont think anything shady is going on. Impatience and other opportunites is probably the answer.
I would not be too surprised if they were selling into the run caused by their announcement.
Yes, it is. All gases are fluids. They are not "liquids", but liquids are fluids also.
Hapless comes to mind
Looks like the Chinese oil companies are going to be making use of this

Based in China's National Center for Supercomputing in the city of Tianjin, the computer has already started to do work for the local weather service and the National Offshore Oil Corporation
Perhaps Sinopec needs to use this thing more

OT: Mid, what board do you follow for HDY discussion??
Interesting how much Apache paid for BOE
BP agreed to a $7 billion sale of oil and gas fields to Apache Corp last week, which valued the assets at around $19.40 per barrel of oil equivalent.

Didnt anyone actually read the blog?? As was posted earlier, the author said that the ship was a pipe laying barge waiting for supplies while heading to Africa??????? It is in the last paragraph. Please, no more conspiracy theories.
petemantx post re forms of gas
Did a little checking on gas for those, like me, that aren't too well versed in it.
(NG)
Natural Gas Formed by either decaying vegetation, microorganisms, and animals though some feel it is formed in the mantle of the earth and seeps up to become trapped in rock. Thus, they believe source is constantly regenerating. Composed mainly of methane along with ethane, propane, butane, etc. Natural gas is normally stripped of the heavier components and other matter to make it as pure as possible prior to using it for whatever purpose. NG used for household purposes is almost pure methane and as such is said to be "dry" natural gas whereas NG with other hydrocarbons present is said to be "wet".
(LNG)
Liquefied Natural Gas Natural gas that has been cooled to about -100F and highly condensed to liquify (without condensing cooling needs to be -260F). Used for transport and storage purposes(as liquid takes 1/600th the volume of gaseous NG). Can be converted back to NG when desired by raising the temperature. Energy density is 60% of diesel. Will only burn in mixtures with air of 5-15%. It will not explode in an unconfined environment. Thus, if there is an LNG spill, there is very little likelihood of it igniting an explosion.
(CNG)
Compressed Natural Gas Natural gas still in a gaseous state that is highly compressed. Can be sent via pipeline. Very safe. Used for transportation as much cleaner than other fuels such as gas, diesel, or propane. Usually at 2900-3200psi. Energy is 42% of LNG and 25% of diesel.
(LPG)
Liquefied Petroleum Gas - Mainly propane or butane or a mixture of both. Can be liquefied by pressure alone whereas LNG can only be liquefied by temperature. Partly a byproduct of petroleum refining. Used extensively worldwide for cooking, aerosol propellant, and refrigerant. Strong odor enhancer added as very flammable. Highest use in USA of all alternative fuels.
Here, I think, is what you are referring to

From an EEL Update issued today;
--------------------
JDZ Bomu-1 Well
Operations on the JDZ Bomu-1 well, in Block 2 of the Joint Development Zone, are complete. The well, drilled in 1655 metres of water reached a total depth of 3543 metres below sea level. Subject to acknowledgement by the Joint Development Authority, this fulfils the work obligation of Phase I of the Exploration Period in the Production Sharing Contract, which ends in March 2010.
Early analysis of the wireline logs indicates the presence of gas in a number of sand intervals. Further evaluation of the discovery, which is too small to be commercial on a stand alone basis, and its impact on the prospectivity of other prospects on Block 2 is underway. Equator has a 9 per cent interest in Block 2.

UPDATE: SEC Finalizes Oil, Gas Reserve Reporting RequirementsLast update: 12/29/2008 3:31:23 PM By Siobhan Hughes
Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES
WASHINGTON (Dow Jones)--The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday changed the way that companies may disclose oil and natural gas reserves in corporate financial reports, giving oil companies flexibility that they had long sought. Companies will be able to disclose possible and probable reserves, a break with decades-old rules that limited disclosure only to proved reserves. Companies also will be able to report the value of oil and gas reserves using an average price based upon the prior 12-month period rather than on year-end prices. Oil and gas companies including Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM) and Chesapeake Energy Corp. (CHK) have for years complained that the SEC's rules were outdated and didn't take into account technological advances that allow access to more reserves. "These updated rules consider the significant changes that have taken place in the oil and gas industry since the adoption of the original reporting requirements more than 25 years ago," John White, the director of the SEC's corporation finance division, said in a statement. The SEC will make details of the new regulation available at a later date. It described the new rule in a press release issued on Monday. -By Siobhan Hughes, Dow Jones Newswires; 202-862-6654; Siobhan.Hughes@dowjones.com (END) Dow Jones NewswiresDecember 29, 2008 15:31 ET (20:31 GMT)
Kownski,
Fracing is referring to "FRACTURING" a tight producing formation by applying a very high pressure to the isolated production zone by surface pumping trucks which pump fluid containing a propping element, sand or such, into the fractures as they occur. This allows more oil to flow etc..
See this re the wide swath seismic used for deep formations capped by salt
http://www.aapg.org/explorer/2008/03mar/resolution.cfm
Red, you misunderstood the article. The well,or "dry hole", is being plugged and abandoned, not the rig which drilled the hole.
Here is a good basic explanation about drilling oil wells
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_well
I worked for years in the oil industry in Libya. No matter how good the seismic, the only way to verify an interpretation is to drill a well and test.
Interesting alert I got from Google

Nigeria: Nigeria's Day of Decision is Here - President Olusegun Obasanjo
http://allafrica.com/stories/200704190211.html
Daily Trust (Abuja)
April 19, 2007

Is'haq Modibbo Kawu
In the next two days, Nigerians will be going through one of the most important routines in our post-colonial history; the process of electing a new president after eight years of the most incompetent, arrogant, criminally-centred and anti-people Obasanjo administration. An eight-year period between 1999 and 2007, when hope turned to despair; government became an avenue to systematically loot our country by Obasanjo and a group of his cronies in a dubious privatisation process; eight years when over one trillion naira went down the drain to consolidate darkness instead of provision of electricity; eight years of megalomania by a president who ruled with a very questionable mandate but who believed he is the best thing that ever happened to our country.
Never in the history of our country, not even in the dark days of military dictatorship, were we saddled with a ruler who finds happiness when he inflicts sadness and unhappiness on the people he rules. Obasanjo's name will enter history as the most reviled to ever preside over our country, and it is part of the tragedy of his rule that a near-bankrupt felon, who Nasir el-Rufai said had only N20, 000 in his bank account soon after he was released from prison, and whose debts totalling over N100 million were settled by Atiku Abubakar, has now become arguably one of the richest people in our country.
Obasanjo, the 'anti-corruption Czar,' reputed to now own a university, is believed to have commanding interests in banking, aviation and through the controversial TRANSCORP, interests in hotels, oil prospecting, telecommunication and God knows what else he has used his eight years in power to amass. Obasanjo is hated with passion by the majority of the Nigerian people because his name and policies are bywords for sorrow, unemployment, destruction of properties, retrenchment from work, bad roads, lack of electricity and vulgarity in a leader of the country.
This is the background against which the electioneering process has been built in the past few years. The ruling party, the PDP, has not performed to the expectations of the Nigerian people, largely because even the party was conquered by the despotic Obasanjo, purged of its rational kernel and transmogrified into a monster in the image of Obasanjo: heartless, anti-people, dictatorial, wicked and a cult-like organisation, headed by hand-picked sidekicks of the man. This blatantly illegal takeover of the party and its purge has turned the PDP into a soulless, empty, vote-rigging contraption, far removed from the realities facing the Nigerian people, but dedicated only to the capricious intentions of its master, Olusegun Obasanjo.
Obasanjo is nevertheless a very smart character. He realises how unpopular he is and how reviled his name is amongst the Nigerian people. Realistically, he can never allow the electoral process to run genuinely freely, because across the country, the PDP has become very unpopular due to the arrogance of its operatives and the incompetence of its rule. It was inconceivable that a party with such a record was going to an election with the level of arrogant confidence the party has continued to exhibit over the past few months if they are genuinely free and fair. If anybody was in doubt that PDP was determined to massively rig the elections, then such a person should think again, given the evidence from last week's election.

Nigeria
It was obvious that the way the PDP can 'win' elections is to lay ambush, like true bandits, for the Nigerian people and rob us of our votes in broad daylight. This is what has happened in Ondo, Ekiti, Adamawa, Enugu, Edo and Anambra to mention a few of the more brazenly criminal points of subversion of the will of the Nigerian people. Subversion has taken place within the context of the incompetence of INEC itself, which spent far more time fighting to prevent Obasanjo's opponents from getting into the electoral race than prepare adequately for the elections. In cahoots with security forces, the INEC and their thugs, the PDP went to town to conquer states across Nigeria.
The Nigerian columnist, Pini Jason, writing in VANGUARD newspaper of Tuesday, April 17, 2007, captured the essence of the problem which faces us today when he says that the problem "is simply because our society has been captured by devious men and women who insist on being rewarded for incompetence, who get away with the hardship they inflict on the society and who divert public attention from their ineptitude with arrogance and addictive sense of infallibility". And who can contest the arrogance with which Professor Maurice Iwu has conducted the operations of INEC over the past few years? The fears expressed by well-meaning individuals and civil society groups have in turn been met with a bellicose response; Iwu and his INEC have been more interested in protecting the interests of Obasanjo and his vote-rigging monster, the PDP.
This is the background against which we shall be going to the polls on Saturday. In the first place, the Obasanjo/INEC joint conspiracy to ban candidates has been rejected by the Supreme Court, and rather than accept the decision, they have made some contemptible last-minute moves to ban electioneering, without doubt calculated to ensure that Obasanjo's nemesis, Atiku Abubakar, cannot rally the people in the last few days before the elections; this was exactly what they did with the Araraume decision in the Imo State governorship race. In contempt of the Nigerian Supreme Court, Araraume was expelled from the PDP and they rejected him as the party's candidate and before you could spell Maurice, INEC towed the line of the PDP that Araraume would not be in the election.
