too smart for own good...
nope, just curious.
so I take it that it's not tracked on the buy/sell front.
I figured, but thought I'd ask as there are times it doesn't seem to make complete sense.
How do you read pre-market trades?
proably a stupid question, but always wondered if it's possible to see if a trade is a buy or a sell. This is for Pre, Normal and Post trading...
I've always tried to figure it out based on the the direction of the next price, but it's not always conclusive.
I look at trades between 8:46 - 8:49 a.m. and just don't see how these trades (unless equal buys & sells ) would amount to no change in price.
Were the two trades of 2050 & 2090 at $16.10 just automatic fills, i.e. one buy and one sell at $16.10?
Am I missing something other than possibly a "brain cell"?
nice pre-market action...up to $16.11
would be encouraging to see the momentum of Jacky's move on Friday continue with another solid, positive day of trading.
can only imagine the power and might of over 3M short positions, and not even sure of the minor details of how shorting works...
but would guess that another couple days like Friday would send most running to cover?
re: Magma
Heya, I'm not sure if you sent the right links. It's all FMCN stuff.
Call my post, Rant borne out of frustration.
I agree - the chinese aren't embracing the western career tools. You can easily find Linkin press releases re: problems with uptake in China. I fully appreciate my search was from a traditional perspective, and easily flawed.
I'm not even going to put a "but" in here..
Just cross my fingers for another positive PR jolt on Monday a.m. !!!!!
signing off now. leaving it to the professionals.
..before the formal request comes in - I'll stop filling this space with useless info.
sit back and watch the firework display, as they say.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all.
Little early-season for the Ski Resort to be opening...
If i was on my snowboard, would be loving the gradient of pitch, this a.m. and long as there was 6 feet of fresh to plow through.
from my desk... well all I can say is French Connection United Kingdom.
Zheng Cheng and the rest of the CCME crew.
I wrote up a some research last weekend, originally for this forum but decided not to post as I wasn't sure how it would come across, nor if anyone would see it as relevant or useful. + the Monday PR Pump!!
Anyway, here's a diluted take, from memory on what I was going to write.
I recruit for a living, run an head-hunting agency, and dug deep into CCMe + 3 other competitors and came up with a basic analysis from a company structure, employee professional profiles point of view.
I would agree Mr. Cheng is a switched on young man. For some reason I prefer to call those in the 30's, young men?!? which if probably unfair.
Anyway MediaExpress and it's board is full of switched on young men, who appear to have all hit it pretty big time with MediaExpress. I do think leveraged ties with the Government through previous affiliations/accolades in government groups going all the way back to youth groups, has been a factor.
Mr Cheng appears to "care" also, and gives a lot back to his people. Commendable and I suspect he is a man of high integrity.
But.. I can tell you- the company structure is far less evolved (let's say from a Western perspective) than the VisionChina Media, AirMedia, Obviously FMCN's doing business in china. This is probably why we continually express frustration from a shareholder perspective.
I don't like this from a company that has $200M in the bank. Hire a fulltime PR person!! I also didn't like, that unlike all of their competitors.. I could not find 1 employee professional profile. Not Marketing, Sales, Account Management etc. Even Jacky Lam had a far less Visible track record than I would have liked. ( I used MonsterWorldwide, Internet searches, Linkedin, + a couple other specialist resources I pay for ).
Quite possibly because many of these guys come from more of a Chinese party into Start-up company background, rather than corporate; they are conditioned to keep information out of the public domain?? ... hidden from the prying eyes of virtual "nobody's" like me.
Obviously Starr got the red-carpet treatment!! or they wouldn't be "in", duh. :)
Personally, I was disappointed to have used skills that have made me a lot of business over the years, to find out so little about a company I have so much of my portfolio invested in.
I bet if I was as hungry, energetic as I was in my mid 30's... I would have found much more! and as such, much more peace of mind!
*got to get back to work, you can rip me apart for not towing the line, now!
I'll be the one who sells at a $5000 loss only to type in CCME 6 months later and realise I missed out on $30,000 profit, all through second guessing brilliant business minds, not to mention pure impatience!!! Doh!!
poo. is all I can say.
that's about the most clever thing I can express about it breaching $15. *maybe the after hours $15.22 can hold...
The Forbes article obvious didn't help market sentiment for Chinese PLC's. and RINO being mentioned again is just icing on the cake!
....but an easy 5pt loss on a quarter of normal volume - With the great PR just two days ago.... this share feels destined to trade on china market sentiment until Management show some Market Savvy.
and until that happens, what's going to keep it from a slow gradual slide....
i agree to a certain extent.... re: MS
I think all that was said was that there was new coverage on the horizon. guessing took place and then suddenly MS was repeated.
tbh.. I figured it could have easily just been referrencing the GH announcement/upgrade?
general question around revenues vs. costs.
anyone have an educated/researched answer around this one?
I saw this elsewhere and thought that it does raise a valid question.
According to the latest 10Q for the 9 months trailing CCME reported 159 million dollars in revenue. How much did they spent in general and administrative expenses? Less than 250K. Now you tell me, when was the last time you heard of any company in the world that generated that kind of sales, or 159 million dollars in sales, by spending slightly over 200 thousand dollars.
Obviously this $250K does not include hardware/equipment, implementation, maintenance costs etc.??
Is it suppose to include Salaries?
Shorts Covering................
soulstealer - thanks for that info. Where do you get these figures from? Would like to keep an eye on it myself.
Thanks
didn't quite get it when xing bought a mining company...
seemed too 'all over the place' as I'd now have to track commodities prices as well as mobile phone demand... or maybe I was missing something.
those 25,000 at 15.90 ...
where do you find these orders? or am I being daft.
I would have thought they'd put them a lot lower than that??
those shares at 15.90 ...
where do you find these orders? or am I being daft.
would have thought they'd put them lower??
re: Saltydog re: XING
mother-in-law got me into this one back in 2007 !?. Don't ask.
tried to tell me viaspace was the future also?????
XING - I went in at $1.50 recently and got out at $1.70.... so perked up when I saw you mention it.
right back down today! crazy. I know one of the directors bought shed loads at $1.55 or so... could be something in the works?
The little sell-off this a.m..
you recon some of it could be people who bought in yesterday on the back of Global Hunter... who then did a bit of research & found some of the self-serving B.S. the Shorts are putting out. Who then had a bit of a panic on the 1st sign of any weakness?
or would that be far to simple a view.
*hopefully this thread isn't too close to "that" word? The one I will never show enough respect to even consider responding..
12 pt gain on not the highest volume.
Are the shorts sitting on the sidelines today... keeping there powder dry for a quiet day to try and another assault?
I've never shorted and don't know the particulars. For the ones who bought some of those short positions avaialable last week... when would they have to close out their positions buy?
what's the timeframe before those positions can be counted out?
Shares up at $25 for the shorts
yep. mine locked down too... if a SHORTie needs some, he can have mine today at $25.
Not talking a peace sign here...
I may be an American, but live in England now.
it's the old reverse victory sign for the shorts today ;)
Pleasant Surprise...just got back to desk.
was in meetings last couple hours, just got back to desk clicked on Nasdaq... If I were To Be Honest... fully expected to see a 50 cent drop or something equally depressing!!
Woo Hoo... woohoo! :) $16.24
even though I whined a bit (thanks for putting up with it)... so glad I didn't try and get clever over the past few days!
two fingers in the air... to the shorts!
China Ad Market projected to increase 51% over next 2 years.
bloomberg Article.
*referencing Web on the 51%, but imagine that once companies hit the China market hard, CCME will also benefit nicely
http://www.stockhouse.com/Bullboards/MessageDetail.aspx?s=CCME&t=LIST&m=28947016&l=0&pd=0&r=0
Many thanks Salty!
took the bull by the horns this a.m. --- as a corp. headhunter I thought I'd put my skills (Questionable Claim!) and access to the market info to use.
couldn't find of employees of CCME.. errr, other than one and it's our man! Did find a few direct competitor employees in China. I emailed a couple of Senior Sales / Account Manager types; will see if they respond & how friendly they are.
not sure what i can hope to achieve other than maybe just taking a referrence from an industry professional... but it's initiated; so will see.
maybe I can try and introduce people to CCME for a fee! buy another 1/2 ton of shares. lol, Yeah right! can see the reverse engineering of an invoice from London happening already.
Updates available on Share buyback scheme?
I was doing some searching - trying to piece together the sequence of events with regards to Share buyback program - how it materialised, how it apparently de-materialised and articles related to this realisation.
All I could find is Rames article at the end of Sept on seeking alpha (copied a bit below) on how/why it came about.. then... nothing. other than Bashing on blogs.
Q1: if the Board of Directors approved the program, and it is a program; - Have they officially announced the program is no longer in effect? or is it just that, as We haven't heard more on the subject in 10 weeks - we can assume that they decided not to? Aren't we (as shareholders) allowed to call their PR office ( do they have one?) and ask for an official statement?
If they decided not to.. as a PLC, aren't they required to report back on such a Share affecting strategic aboutface?
Can anyone either comment on this question or point me towards an article that goes into greater Detail...or with Chinese small caps - are my expectations just too great?
Q2: what is the CGS (china growth stocks) Board? I find references to it, but not links.
Thanks in advance!,
http://seekingalpha.com/author/rames-el-desouki
"Its Board of Directors has approved a program, effective immediately for one year, to repurchase up to $30 million of its stock, using the company's available cash for funding. CCME reported $25 million in operating cash flow for the second quarter alone, so even if executed in full the buyback program won't leave a dent in the company's cash balance. However, if executed in full, the company will repurchase one third of the current public float of approximately 9 million shares. This is a significant amount.
All those numbers - $30 million buyback program, $38 million operating cash flow and $46 million net income in the first half of 2010, $139 million cash on the bank, ex-cash P/E-ratio of 2.0 - make this stock a screaming buy."
STARR Share gift reason for Dive?
it's almost as frustrating to hear the increasing number of plausible reasons for why our shares are diving as it is to witness this seemingly irrationally sharp decline.
RE: STARR's gift to employees. iT would be good to find out if conditions were given. All share schemes that I've seen companies implement have 2nd year (50%), 3rd year (25%) and 4th year (25%) vestments during defined trading windows.
It keeps key employees locked in for 2-4 years and also keeps management in control of expected sell-offs. Will sometimes even announce it, if they feel something as dramatic as we've just seen; could happen.
then again STARR wasn't gifting their own stocks, so maybe they not as concerned.
So although I'd like to buy into the idea that the $17 to $14.80 slide was Starr employees cashing in on a christmas bonus....
would be nice to see that it's not another divi, buy-back, MS, PR... B.S. until it actually materialises statement. ;)
im with you headley. mind and heart saying to different things to me here....
I've always been a long investor and have done well with it...
then again, I have never gone contrarian again such agressive heavy hitters!
I've got my strategy and will stick to it. ...but look forward to the day that I leave this position unwatched for periods at a time.
I agree with Headley. PLC's answer to Shareholders.
I've recruited for and been in-house at a couple of firms on their push to become $1B turnover PLC's. Each of them harped on about their obligation to their shareholders at every management meeting. Vague committments or slippage on market percieved obligations was sacriledge. so this "let them get on with being the most profitable company we've ever seen?" doesn't sound right.
In not one PLC, would a $20 - $15 dramatic fluctuation go unnoticed. Granted they were mature PLC's...
They can obviously see that their share price is being heavily manipulated by shorts. It's on record that they are the most heavily shorted company in China ( or is it just china Advertising )
With this knowledge, it's completely irresponsible to their shareholders ( many of us who have pumped tens of $1000's into their stock ) to no take action.
January? February? B.S. If they Can? but don't do something soon to counter critics, than they are unlike any of the companies I've had the priveledge to be involved with in my career.
Maybe I'm being naive, but They need to act within another week to 10 days or the shorts/critics will just wear general confidence to new uncomfortable levels.
not very pleased with the 5 pt. drop
This is the first time I'v knowingly been involved in a stock that took 650K shorts in the past week. already knowing that it recently won the award for the most shorted stock in the Advertising space!?
another 5 pt drop after an already significant fall from grace, gets you wondering where resistance is..
Does this volume of shorting just dillute any sensible level of resistance?
not very pleased with the 4 pt. drop
This is the first time I'v knowingly been involved in a stock that took 650K shorts in the past week.
not pleased the ease it dropped another 4 pts after an already significant fall from grace, let's say.
I'm not going to panic sell... missed my knowingly sensible sell at when I cnxlled my $16.88 stoploss.
Character buiding time ;)
TheStreet Recommends CCME-top 13 for 2011..
*good bump
China MediaExpress Holdings (CCME_) in my opinion will be a dividend stock in the next 12 months, is growing, and comes at a P/E less than 8 on growth that makes growth investors salivate.
http://www.thestreet.com/story/10936305/1/13-stock-picks-for-2011.html
Well, if it's going to be a Red market day
by what we saw in the last week... CCME could head towards greener pastures! once we get past a few panic dumps...
Another day, Another Dollar.
after a few un-inspiring days of laclustre performance, considering the market at large; would be nice to to get a modest bump today.
At least for me, 4-6pts would go a long way to restoring a bit of confidence.
Bleeding in their shorts.....
interesting figure that 605K worth of short positions have been taken, if true.
What does that fact do for you experienced, weathered traders?
I can remember waiting years for MRGE to turn and eventually I made a good 800% on it. don't want to talk about the $6.50 down to 90 cent slide before that!
"the stock market is a method for transferring money from the impatient to the patient"
ahh.. ok, the guys I speak to are more Trading Platform Institutional sales guys; so not seasoned traders, just screen peddlers. It was a new one for them!
I know now to give credit to Warren but still thank SoulStealer for passing it my way ;)
holding through $22's back to high $15's...
too right and a big 'amen' to that - SoulStealer....
What's up with this MS talk? any substance to it.... or is it just the pumping equivalent to the shorts bashing?
-also, if this was just some ploy yesterday by institutional forces to drive the price down for some cheap buys.... would it really be behaving as it is today?
On a positive note: I told a couple of my Brokerage/SpreadBetting clients in London today:
"the stock market is a method for transferring money from the impatient to the patient"
they laughed and thought it was great. I'm not sure it if was worth the $2,000 my portfolio paid for it.... but great qoute, SoulStealer
Patient. I will remain, Though. We can call it a character building exercise.
theory on shorting strategy RE: Dan
Hey Dan,
Thanks for that. Lol. I can think of many times in the past where I've had stock that just managed to hit my stop loss... or drop 50 cents below... only to see them run up within a couple days... and keep running for weeks. I cannot think of once that where it's hit only to drop and drop... damn shorts! ;)
I was always like W.T.F. - how many times is this going to happen.
Well. I almost put a stop loss in this a.m. and didn't ( it would have triggered ).
going to show some of those "Balls of Steel" i heard about and just 'chill'. too much positive hype around this. if a hit peice materialises...well fuck it. day job pays far better than this game!
Short action in order for firms to accumulate cheap shares
How does that work.? How do Institutional shorts execute a strategy to take a stock down in order to accumulate more positions at a cheap price??
I mean... it takes 2 to tango, right?
An additional 2000 buses added to the network will make 2011 a good year...
Completely forgotton Chensiona... lol.
Random comments by users like BOWS --- affect?
ok-my question: Can a random blog by someone like BOWS really have that much of an affect on a stock like this?
Realistically - How many people actually see these forums ( I only see 189 following ), and even if those that Do.. Do they really own enough shares to force this kind of movement? Or is it just the snowball?
For the 4pt drop we see... we are talking about people dumping 100,000+ shares today, right?

I look at FinViz news every morning as a daily gauge on market sentiment.... and it's pretty upbeat tdoay.
http://finviz.com/news.ashx
any other suggestions outside the FinViz compilation of news for getting an idea what's happening on the floor?
